I was in the marines when that happened and lost several boot camp buddies that went 0300 grunt in their enlistment. It was quiet in our squadron that day. I was also on the base that lost a few pilots in the failed Iranian hostage rescue operation. I think it was operation Eagle Claw. We were very silent watching the news but we're determined to work as marines. This is the cost of bad policies, buy we have no control over that. Just to serve. A senior Lebanese officer remarked to a Commanding officer of the marines that having a few guards posted with empty rifles doesn't work over here. "You have wonderful equipment but yours guns are empty." True story.... We live to serve and learn.
