In late 2012, film maker Eric Swenson visited the studio of Teale Hatheway. Over the course of three months, he regularly returned to film the artist in her habitat. He captured the shifting moods, materials and techniques which play mysterious, yet vital roles in Teale's mixed-media paintings and became her willing urban exploration companion.
About the artist:
Teale Hatheway strives to convey the souls of architectures as they have been envisioned, built, lived with and, often times, forgotten. In so doing, she creates artworks that are culturally relevant and reverent. By combining diverse expressive resources and materials from historic and contemporary art, Teale strives for a fresh take on painting technique. Her formalist pursuits are bolstered by inspirations garnered through research and experiences. Rendering these inspirations into her art lends conceptual depth to seemingly simple subjects. Teale's goal is to make art that is culturally, historically, and socially honest while rejoicing in our shared desire for beauty.
Teale Hatheway is a mixed media painter living in and working about Los Angeles. Teale studied painting at the Claremont Colleges in Claremont, California and The Slade School of Fine Art, London, England. Related involvements include being a vocal advocate on civic issues pertinent to the future of Los Angeles such as the Bringing Back Broadway Initiative and the Historic Bridges over the Los Angeles.
