i lived a lesbian lifestyle for 21 years. in 2020, i found Jesus again and turned my back on that lifestyle. i started seeing it for what it was and had now become. i never was initially attracted to women, but had a fear of men. so, in my search to be loved, i thought i could find it with the "other side". 90% of my lesbian friends were survivors of abuse and rape. this make me think they are all just looking for "love", a "safe" love. i found the love of Jesus and have never turned back. and i thank Him everyday for allowing me to see the light. His love comforts me and guides me. its been 4 years and i still have zero attraction for women. and on a side note, when i was a kid, i always had crushes on the boys in my class. it wasn't until i was exposed to gay stuff in college that i actually thought i may be gay. i literally thought that being "gay" would save me. it took 21 years but im so glad i saw the Light.

I am a true believer in medication and walking with the Lord. Do I believe that one day God will deliver me of my Bipolar, ABSOLUTELY! But until then, God is using me to help support other women struggling with the misconception that medication means 1) they don't trust the Lord, 2) they can't grow close to the Holy Spirit.

If more youth pastors and parents put the truth of the way of Christ to their children the way she heard it from Jackie Hill Perry or Sam Allberry(author of Why Does God Care Who I Sleep With?) or even Asa Butterfield, then I think we would have less young people feeling unintentionally shunned. Not being gay anymore isn't the goal just like not being a drunkard, a liar,a thief or any other wayward style of living isn't the goal. Holiness is the goal. Living holy and teaching others how to do the same is the goal. Teaching them how to be more like the Father, more like Jesus. What happens along the way of your sanctification journey is your desire to be more like Him sub plants your desire to pursue and primarily promote any other identity above or before your identity in Christ.

Absolutely essential reading is 'The rise and triumph of the modern self' by Carl Trueman. He details how we as a culture have come to accept same sex attraction as an identity which we call 'being gay'. Once you see that it is a fabricated concept built on layers of deceptive perceptions built over the years by various ideologies and writings (by people like Freud and Rousseau,) it becomes painfully apparent how much of what society now accepts is just that - total deception. Attractions are what you 'have' and acting on them is what you 'do' but it is not 'who you are'. That is where so many people get deceived. Even Brenna speaks about it as discovering who she 'was' at 14. This is so key in accurately unraveling this and dealing with it as believers in love AND truth. You handle this conversation with much love and grace Ruslan. So thankful this topic is starting to be discussed so people dealing with this aren't falsely stuck between the 'hell or happy' lie. Blessings.

This interview made me think of a segment in Ruslan’s interview with George Janko where he shares a story about what his therapist told him. That he needs to stop viewing himself as a “heterosexual” but a “monet-sexual” (his wife’s name).
I think he hit the nail on the head with that regarding what it is to form a covenant in marriage. We take homosexual sin as a whole different class in sexual immorality - when in reality - sexual
Immorality (regardless of what kind it is - heterosexual or homosexual) is an unhealthy desire that perverts the beauty of what happens in the covenant of marriage between man and wife.
If we can extend the grace to those who may go through sexually immoral desires, and allow God to do the work…and we as a body of Christ do what we are called to do - which is to love God and love people…more people will begin to open their hearts, their eyes and ears to receive the gospel.
God’s grace works. Our job is to love God and make his name known. We as a body of Christ hold each other accountable to the truth of the gospel, but it is NOT our job to change people. God changes people. Let God work.
That’s not to say people who just choose to continue living in sin falsely believing they are just saved because they say “Lord Lord” are not to be corrected. There is righteous judgement and rebuke that Christians need to do, but if it that rebuke and judgement comes from pride and ego, rather than love and compassion for someone to truly draw closer to God, it’s better to not speak at all.
We, as the body of Christ, must always evaluate our faith and we must always seek God daily. We die to our flesh daily. We pick up our cross daily. We MUST be born again. Let’s remember that and love God together!
    Great interview!

@SetYourTalksAblaze I think the difference between the thpes of sexual immorality is that homosexuality itself is a sin, an abomination in fact. Heterosexuality is God's design. The sin in heterosexuaity is partaking outside of marriage.

    • @SetYourTalksAblaze

@@nenajay3174 putting sin in different classes is the issue. We are not the judges of sin. God may weigh each sin differently, but all sin separates us from Him.
Also - I don’t think it’s a false statement to say you can be sexually immoral and sinful within a heterosexual marriage. If the wife doesn’t want sex one day and the husband forces himself on her, that is still r*pe. Would that not also be an abomination if people are defiling the sanctity and covenant of marriage?
I am not condoning homosexuality in any way. It goes against scripture and you cannot choose to live in that sin knowingly and not be convicted of change and repentance at some point in your relationship with Christ. However, our goal as Christians is to share the gospel, love God, love people, and let God work. We should first inspect the log in our own eye before we judge others for the speck in theirs.
All fall short of the glory of God. We hate the sin, but not the sinner. It’s hard to draw the line in the sand of how to not compromise our beliefs vs being gracious towards another person, but God hates all sin. If God hates all sin, then we should also hate all sin, not one more than the other - most importantly - we DO NOT hate the sinner.

@@nenajay3174 so I’m not disagreeing with anyone of your points. Sexually immoral desires are simply that - sin that is rooted from a desire that is outside of God’s purpose for sexuality - whether it be homosexual desires or heterosexual desires that defile the covenant of marriage. We should extend grace to all who suffer through these desires who have a conviction to want to change for God. Brenda doesn’t say she is OK with having same sex attraction. She is convicted of that sin. She is saying that the desire for that attraction exists, but through her relationship with Christ, she was able to enter into a monogamous heterosexual relationship that aligns with God’s will, and is able to live a life that aligns with God’s will. I don’t think she is saying she is OK with the fact she is same sex attracted. If those desires went away, I think she would be happy about that and is working towards that - just as anyone dealing with sexual desires outside of marriage should actively seek God’s guidance to rid them of those desires.

Many of us believers still struggle with past desires maybe lust, pornography others same sex attraction regardless our struggles or weaknesses the bible tells us to live a changed life to live holy and because of who we are now by the holy spirit and the blood of Jesus is now our real identity. Sin is sin regardless if we are a saved believer who struggles with those appetites it doesn’t grant us the right to act on those sinful thoughts or behaviors. We are to live in repentance and sanctification but ill never allow any Christian to feel comfortable with being homosexual, or a liar or a fornicator or adulterer as if suddenly God switched goal post and accepts what LGBT or our generation deems as normal

While celebrating sin (as our society often does) is evil, to deny that ptocess is disingenuous at best and outright hypocrisy at worst. The compassion of Christ compells us to show that same mercy to others.

Yes, pray for healing, pray for temptation to be taken. But when a christian shares their “now and not yet” experience, doubting their salvation is actually disbelieving God’s grace.
Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corth. 12:7-9

It's one thing to come to the realization that you are tempted by same sex attraction, but we all suffer from different temptations in different degrees. For me, as a teenager, it was stealing and lying that led me to almost go to prison at 15. But never did I identify as a thief or liar as who I was. Great great conversation. I appreciate her courage to talk about all of this it is so needed. In the same sense, I think it is important that we view the term “Gay Christian” as improper. Will you identify with sin? Or identify with Christ? You can say “I struggle with same sex attraction” but saying “ I’m a gay Christian” is identifying with sin and implies that one is practicing sin. It’s like saying I’m a murderous Christian… No sounds crazy, but you can struggle with anger issues.
I know she said she doesn’t like the term “Gay Christian”…for good reason. The Bible is super clear I Corinthians 6:9-11. Such were some of you.
If we are Christ’s that must be who we once were. It’s possible to struggle with desire that’s normal that’s temptation. Nothing wrong with being tempted, but don’t let the temptation take you to sin… the sin line is not drawn just at the act either.

While the current discussion around language and naming can seem drastic in its strength of intensity I actually think it is a very edifying and important issue for us to work out (as Beckett Cook, Chris Yuan, Rosaria Butterfield, and many others are encouraging us to do).
The power of naming is so important, as seen in Adam’s vocation to name.
Concepts come with names. Concepts shape and impact important facets of how we experience ourselves.
I think the church is developing a self-awareness around the need for language to be able to talk about:
    1) people have same sex attraction
    2) experiencing that does not make it a part of one’s essential identity (which is hard for some to accept because it can be a persistent experience for a long period or even all one’s life)
    3) while same sex attraction/temptation is not in-itself a sin it is a result of a fallen human nature and as such is not a temptation original to one made in God’s image. Some desires are the result of sin and this is what it means to say that same sex attraction is a temptation against nature (as God intended it).
I think we are still working out the best way to say these truths.
But it’s an important conversation. It can be just semantics, but only if we all understand the right categories. Right now we don’t. So language is especially important.
Language around homosexuality was developed and invested with an essentialist (born that way/my forever identity) understanding behind it. The goal was to frame these desires as hardwired, and thus natural.
The same issue is behind pronoun use. The structure of language we adopt will shape default ways of thinking AND feeling.
So the question of semantics is a very important conversation to have!

Thanks for sharing. I’d need evidence that language around being “gay” was created by essentialist. But even if so, does disagreement with it mean to discard and dismiss someone as unsaved vs in error. I think we slide either into the genetic fallacy or the slippery slope fallacy.

Deliverance is the key to it all. I was like preditorally sexually attracted to "innocent women" (no not younger but innocent as in clearly Godly women, I wanted to corrupt them that's how demonically riddled I was) as a woman myself. I was filled with perversion and lust and was very beguiling towards both sexes for like 28 years of my life and not only did I have to be delivered but I had to do layers upon layers of cleaning my home, my friend group, my surroundings etc and then in turn I had to actively cut off all sin like even just causal drinking or music etc. I feel like the deeper you were in with Satan the harder you have to go for God because the enemy will attack harder if you were someone who was so intertwined with him for so long, he doesn't want to let go of that person at all so he will do all he can, because of that we have to latch on to God even harder. Also side note, life and death are in the tongue. If you're claiming you are same sex attracted or claiming that identity you are continuously coming in to agreement with that demon so it's never going to stop because you continue to renew that covenant. You can say you use to be even if you still struggle with it talk about it as you WERE not you ARE. Say you denounced that identity and you do not come into agreement with it. These things need to be talked about more on how to break these agreements and covenants with demons.
