idk if this is a serious post, but in case it is, no, its not crazy. you'll most likely only be in the active with budew in the first 2 turns, meaning you have to be very lucky for your hitmonchan to be there too. it takes up way to much deck space to become consistent, making munkidori for example a much better counter
Lol ZapdosTCG has a video about how Budew might ruin the format. We shall see what happens. I really wish Budew got a special illustration since it's going to be meta.
Seems toxic to me. It’s now a race of who finds their budew first. Sure, games will last longer but now could become more frustrating. It’s definitely off putting for newer players and young ones who want to play the game, not hold their cards watching their opponent setup and then roll them over.
That is easily fixable with more supporter based deckbuilding and not relying too much on items rather that supporters, kinda like the trashalanche garbodor situation, its a very good card for putting in check very powerfull cards @@LegendarioGKK-ud2ji
Bruxish, Iron Jugulis, Hitmonchan and Cacnea all put 3 damage counters on the attacking pokemon. Iron Jugulis has 2 retreat cost but can retreat with future booster; the rest all have 1 and can retreat with just a rescue board. Could be worth propping up in front to punish budew; it's an ironically thorny solution for a baby Roselia. That said, this is the first Budew card in 16 years. Wreck havoc on the format, Budew! I hope we see a lot more of you for the next 3 years.
Dusk 100% was a mistake. The ability itself isnt toxic (we've had it before) but its more about how much damage it deals. I feel horrible whenever a Charizard gets to take 4 prizes in 1 turn
Most evo decks that did well 2nd place ninja and 1st place zard have scrapped budew and gone for TM evo and grand tree. This is purely to counter it Japan clearly seen this coming haha
No cost, one sided item disruption is not healthy. Even if it was one energy, at least it would cost a resource. Free is not good. I’ll be playing it of course because what else am I gonna do.
Honestly, I kinda agree. Free retreat on top of that is kinda wild. Feels like a lot of matches will just be a game of who gets item lock off first. Is that really fun? Idk. I've never played in a meta where item lock was big. I'm pretty new to the TCG, and granted, it's HP is pitiful, but still.
I like the idea of potentially having a tool to slow down the turbo decks. My concern is that instead, since Budew is basically free to sprinkle, turbo decks will just Budew too, and lock their opponent out first and make everything just free for them.
Wasn't there like a Burts video that said Pokemon company regretted printing Seismitoad EX the most, out of any other card? Now there's this, that doesn't even require energy. At least Venemoth and Bannette require evolution and an energy attachment. This is dumb. The way how decks have always been built is to dedicate like half of your list for a consistent setup. It's the only way how your strategy even works half the time. This doesn't just slow things down; it stops everything to a screeching halt. It makes top decks way more important. And everyone is going to have to run it so that setups aren't strictly one-sided. This is so toxic, format killing, cringe, all of that. It even has free retreat... so when you're done you don't even need a switch. The most crucial part of having fun with a card game is being able to play the game. Why print cards that are antithetical to that design principle?
they just keep making the same mistakes over and over. to be honest, im at a loss here because this isnt even a card that is a cash grab, its just earnestly monstrous. i dont get it
I recently got into PTCG from YGO. In YGO, everyone who isn’t some kind of misanthrope despises stall and stun cards like Secret Village of the Spellcasters (prevents players from using spell cards). How can people in PTCG be ok with a card like Budew?
In my opinion, the standard metagame is extremely fast. If you don’t setup quickly, you have no chance to win because of cards like Dragapult ex, Iron Hands ex, and Dusknoir. The idea of Budew is to shut down the fast metagame, and I really like cards like that. P.S.: I really hate Snorlax stall.
Well the bad thing is that item lock will stop people playing half their decks are items. So where's the fun of stopping people playing cards and also this card will just destroy any creativity people have since they just going to focus on just countering this only card
@@derekjeter3654I actually think it can allow for more deckbuilding by promoting versatile decks that arent hyper reliant on setting up the most ridiculous turn 2 you can. Instead you can play a little slower and still stand up to the meta. Right now a lot of single prize strategies get gatekept by Regidrago copying kyurem or dusknoir. Playing higher counts of attackers and energies will help vs item lock. The game should adapt fine.
This card is nowhere near as good as seismotoad, it gets nuked by a breath of air, meaning your item lock is over before you can really start disrupting the opponent
@@ringss_you re wrong. This card has wayyyyyyy good stuff printed on it. Good attack, free retreat remember mew v max? Sure hp is low but who cares everything goes down in one hit these days. Item lock in a basic mon with free retreat and free attack is broken as all F.
@@derekjeter3654seismitoad was broken cuz it hit for 30 + 20 from muscle band + 10 from hypnotoxic laser poison + 20 from virbank city gym, effectively 60 damage in a meta where pretty much all viable two-prizers had 180 HP. It 3kho’d everything in the format, item locks and still had 180 HP meaning it couldn’t be killed by a sneeze like budew does. Seismitoad in itself was a viable win condition. Budew has no real way to increase its damage output enough to realistically KO big basics like miraidon or bolt in a reasonable amount of time - so I doesn’t advance your board state, just slows down the game in such a turbo meta. Seismitoad was so much more broken it’s not even funny. Only thing budew has on ibis that it’s much more splashable - but is relegated to a (albeit excellent) role as a support mon.
I see a lot of turbo deck players in the comments who got scared 😂 On the other hand, if they wanted to slow the format down a bit, they should've reprinted Path to the Peak or make a card with a similar effect.
This still seems like games are determined turn one but not instead the game lasts longer. Its turn 1/2 prevent your opponent from playing and thus winning rather than just winning. Doesnt seem much different to me.
Based on this sample, I think the 50% share can likely be attributed to its novelty and unpredictability. Because it’s new and shows promise in testing, it’s getting included as a one-of in decks trying to claw or cope their way back into the top tier. But as such, I don’t think it will have the sweeping effects-positive or negative-that many are speculating.
When did you start playing the game lol item lock is not a new mechanic nor will it ever go away, long time players have been yearning for it bc of turbo decks taking over for a while now
i dont think the problem is items, i think the problem is turbo decks setting up for a t1 knockout consistently. we have too much acceleration in the format right now, and a lot of it isnt items lol
This is really odd to me as at the end of last really fast tournament (battle styles to paradox rift) I played meowscarada klefki with the same intention as to slow down your opponent because your deck is slower. W budew.
I like that its going to slow down the format. But now how do people adapt? More stage 1 mid evos? More tatsugiri/cleffa? Or more supporters? Im really intriged on how its going to turn out
these decks are all the same :D just with a budew xD and thats called by many a meta shift? it seems more like: if you are gonna go first you lose meta
One thing I'll never get bored of is watching the community crying about everything. As I came back to the game people were already complaining about Mew, Lzb and Zard, then it was just Lzb and Zard, then it was the SFA format with all of the big basic turbo decks and Regidrago and now it's the dusknoir line. A new card comes out and helps slow things down to keep all of those in check and people are STILL complaining? You just dislike the game at this point
@ yeah but you can Irida for a water type, get Iron Bundle, and the hyperblower the Budew out of the active. You are still item locked until the end of your turn, but at least you can get it out of the active.
Honestly I am thoroughly bored of how fast this meta is. Decks play really small counts of pokemon, really insane amounts of trainer cards/support pokemon, and almost no energy. Decks that play higher counts of simple and efficient attackers, or thick supporter lines will do very fine into budew. This can make for some more interesting deckbuilding IMO. I want to see something new to break up the 2-2-2/board destruction that is running rampant.
I dunno, just looking at it, it kind of feels like Seismitoad EX all over again, especially with a Brute Bonnet/Binding Mochi combo. Could be wrong bc it is just 30 HP.
Yeah, it's no seismitoad since even evolving basics can just easily kill it, not to mention all the ways you can kill it without even attacking, it's good for slowing the game, but it's not good as a the centerpiece of the deck like the toad, it's a tech you use exactly once or twice to try to keep your opponent's pace slower.
This card needs to be banned. Item lock is a deck, and it should not be a utility. “But.. butbut it slows down the game!” The format already slows down greatly post-rotation, so this just makes the game slow as molasses in space. It’s seismitoad ex without a downside. It’s a “join or die” like ADP, Lugia and Zard was. Ban it.
Never thought I would ever hear Budew this many times in my life
Oh, I wouldn't say 'saved'. More like... *under new management*
