      On the grant stone products, you say that a lot of stuff is from the United States. My question is how is that cost-effective to pay for shipping for the products to go to China be made then ship them back here to the United States? Because I know shipping just from within the United States from something I’ll order online is ridiculous prices for shipping and that’s just within the 50 states and you’re talking about companies like that are in Milwaukee and that are in other cities within the United States ship their products to China then ship them back. I don’t see how that works pricewise.

    • @alanc6468
      @alanc6468 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There were many shoe factories that have been there for decades. Examples are Blazing wonder that has more than a decade of history and Acme has bespoke makers with over 30 years of experience. Where did they learn the trade? Since, the British occupation of Hong Kong. Hong Kong has many shoemakers and you will see it featured in plenty of Hong Kong films (e.g. Echoes of the Rainbow).
      It's still a niche market for upper-middle class individuals. The styling is no different with most of Europe.

    I’m not sure about some of these brands, I don’t think wool would be superior to cork or leather, I also think SPI is a crock since adjusting your sewing machine can give you tighter stitches and then you have to think about your leather tearing at the seams if it’s too tight so I don’t see the big deal on most of these. I think Vibergs who are so big on touting their SPI are overpriced much like most of these boots and the only brand here that’s priced right is Grant Stone. I guess if it’s made in a third world country I expect third world pricing.

    Personally, if I have an option not to buy something from China, I won’t . There are exceptions to everything, of course. I’m typing this comment on my made-in-China Apple iPhone 13 Pro because there aren’t any accessible alternatives at this time. But if I have a choice between a Chinese motorcycle or my Italian machines, well “lunga vita alla Ducati”! And these are personal choices based on my personal biases which everyone has a right to have. I can’t dictate how one spends their hard-earned money, I can only control where I choose to send mine. I will continue to support manufacturers from smaller countries who employ ethical standards in manufacturing and labor, and who offer an inarguable value proposition. My personal preference when it comes to clothing items will always remain with American and Japanese offerings. But again, to each their own. Hard pass on Chinese boots.

    Wool is actually a fairly common filler in very high end dress shoes. It's kind of surprising, to be honest, that more of these boot nerd brands aren't using it. I predict Iron Boots being big trendsetters in this area.

    • @AlexanderMason1
      @AlexanderMason1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a pretty cheap filler and you can find realy cheap 100% wool insoles as well. The wool doesn’t have to be the highest end because you won’t directly feel it yet will still benefit from its properties. Honestly i would rather have a cork filled or just pure leather midsole and add a wool insole if i want it. You would just have to get a larger size to account for the insole.

    As some one who was born in China and lived in China for half of my life and also lived in the states for half of my life, there are a few things I want to say about all the children labor and low wages things people use against made in China things.
    First of all, the legal working age in China is 16 and people are only required to go through 9 years of mandatory education, which means if you got in elementary school at 7, at the time of 9th grade you can go get a job. So that’s that.
    Secondly, I can have a meal for 2 US dollars in China and if I only want to survive I can live off of 3 bucks a day. Many people talk about factory workers don’t get minimum wage of 10 bucks per hour, I just want you to understand most office workers make around 5 bucks per hour in second tier cities and they still live a okay life.
    With that being said, Chinese factories have issues with long shifts and bad health insurance for sure but it’s not as bad as many warehouses in the states I can tell you this much.

    • @ericiidx

      Good question. I can't imagine wool being any cheaper than cork, so I don't feel like it's a cost-saving measure. My best guess would be wool's natural hydrophobic quality; it will rid itself of moisture much faster than cork will, which benefits the lifespan of the insole (and boot.)

    This is very true. You do get what you pay for in Chinese products. There is no magic and it is physically impossible to get quality at a lowball price. China will produce that best product based on the price......period. If the business model of big corporates go shopping in China, the motto is how low can you go, The corporates most likely will pay peanuts on a dollar and you get junk. The is no way around it. Take Apple for example Iphones and Powerbooks are generally made in China, but the quality is there for you to see. However, as pricey as Apple products are, the OEM supplier's profit pales by Apple's gain on every Iphone or Powerbook they sell.

  • @ShootingTheBreeze71
    @ShootingTheBreeze71 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I truly believe dude is only about how much profit he can make. I know without a doubt including labor the boot he wants $599 for has been doubled in cost just so he can make $300 per pair. Can see right through it. Dr Sole is $30, Leather about $75, labor in China maybe $50-$75 That labor is for an owner operated shop and not a sweat shop. Dude is price gouging for sure. There is a reason why you can get decent boots from China for $75 .. It doesn't cost that much to build a boot in China.

    I resonate with Nick's face at 14:15. For $599 you can get whites and nicks which are legacy US makers. Not sure what XBXS are offering more at that price range especially for a made in china viberg derivative (though they seem to be working on their designs). They need to drive that price down at least $100-200 to be competitive like Ticho said otherwise I don't think they'll be around that long unfortunately

    Welcome to the boots i saw on instagram show!
    Seriously i love the channel but this guest is not doing you any favors. I’m sure he’s a nice guy but all I’m hearing is buzzwords and vague recollections of things he thought he heard about.
    Also for better or worse the primary purpose of manufacturing in China is to reduce cost. When you start getting into the 600$ plus price range you might as well manufacture in the U.S. and charge what it costs. You’re no longer dealing with casual purchasers and the value isn’t worth the association with ‘made in china’ moniker. I’m not saying China can’t make a quality product, I’m saying that is what people perceive.
    If you like the Chinese boot better then go for it. If the Chinese boots are what you can afford then go for it. Everyone should do what is best for them. But if I’m going to spend money on higher end boots then I’d rather buy from somewhere else.
    Again, love the channel. You do a good job. I just don’t agree on this one.
