FYI, the rear wheels rotate up/forward in vehicle mode to fill in the wheel wells and level out the car.

Hip issue aside this looks like a pretty solid figure. TE appears to be 2 for 2 in the MP arena. Glad to see it. It's a pass for me only because I already have sphynx and won't swap him out for this guy. Cartoon accuracy is not something I care about and honestly I think it hinders figures more than anything. Unpopular opinion, I know. I'm happy for the cartoon guys that enjoy this though. Happy to see another 3p company putting out a solid product. Thanks for the review.

I own both MMC and TE, while I strongly prefer TE (despite the need to fix the hip), I respect differing opinions like yours. Cheers!
I totally agree with you. I would prefer they approach these figures as an idealized version of what these characters should look like with a hint more realism. When he held up the MMC version next to this one I liked the look of the MMC version better.
@Chris I totally agree. I loved everything about that Sunstreaker but the head just looks dumb and I was not willing to shell out that kind of money if I don't like the head. I've thought about how much effort it would take to redesign the head and replace that versions head with a new one.
@Chris that would be cool, but I would just be happy with attention to matching real world vehicles and making the robots carry on the spirit of the original look coupled with a much more detailed and higher tech look. I do agree it would be great to see them use the toys for inspiration for the faces.
I also don't care about the sunbow chart. I would rather the vehicle's size dictate the size of the robot. I would prefer transformations that while not simple are smooth, fun, and creative and always allow for bots with amazing articulation.
Who knows what we will see, but I hope there is a new aesthetic ahead that recreates the look and feel of the line. I would like to see more characters get the spotlight too and not necessarily have the exact same alt mode as they've had in the past
For example I love Soundwave and his tape deck gimmick is cool and all but I would love to see a new look for him that maybe utilizes a predator drone like he did in Transformers Prime but still maintain his more traditional G1 bot look. His tapes could instead be like smaller drones that are housed onboard sort of like in the Avengers when the Falcon releases a drone from his back.

They knocked it out of the park with TE-01 but dropped the ball with a simpler figure.
The way the arms tab together in alt mode gave me major Takara seeker mould vibes.
I got mine in last week and the hip issue has been corrected. I had no issues with paint either. Love your vids, you and BensCollectibles made me want to get into MP size figures, thanks for the inspiration!

I think after Mirage was so HARDCORE in the netflix show.. we may see 2 or 3 more of him soon. I have 3 versions now SPHINX , SEIGE AND EVIL MIRAGE. MIRAGE is my dude.

Have both MMC and TE Mirage and I MUCH prefer Speed Star, but I have STRONG bias for the 80's animation. Growing up I could only dream of a toy Mirage looking nearly identical to the content it is based on. The bar has definitely been raised, especially from the waist down, and when and whether FT Mirage can surpass the TE Mirage remains to be seen, if FT can pull it off, I think any improvements would be marginal, articulation could be less, knees might require replacement screw, based on well you know.
Lol at the fact, that every single transformer lately seems to be either defective, broken, or misassembled lol. All from different companies, and no one seems like they can get their shit together.

That's one of the biggest irritations I have about him when I ponder switching out Sphinx with him... SS looks better in a lot of places (feet, knees, the fact you can maneuver the launcher, the fact his forearms aren't just panels that rest in a groove at the top of the arm...), but that neck/chest panel just seems royally unfinished...
That and I kind of like having Sphinx's wheels visible in his chest when in 'bot mode, it gives him a bit more personality IMO. And to boot Sphinx's backpack is a bit cleaner if you ask me.
Pretty solid to me. Besides the hip issue, which they are fixing, looks spot on. I have Sphinx and it's a great figure but I'm going to get this one as well. Looks great!
As someone who has a 5 yo niece I greatly appreciate the hands fingers knees and toes joke. She wants to sing that damn song all the time.
Agreed about the recommend issue, and solid review. Definitely interested in the comparison video. Feel like I'd have been more interested in this piece a few years ago, or if the MMC version didn't exist (which I believe holds up quite well).

The white on the front of the car is painted, I've seen pics of it chipping. I'm less than impressed with mine, half a dozen transformations in and the knees, ankles and feet are all kinds of floppy. I think it looks cheap and feels cheap. Not a patch on their prime. I'll be picking the FT one up as well.
I can’t wait to see the comparison video. I’m hoping that my version comes with the hip fix. I agree that you can’t say that it’s a good figure because it came faulty.. Looks good though! Great review!

Mine had the hip problem too but it was easy to fix. Other than that and the chest part under his head is my only quibble and it's a small one. Otherwise i'm very happy with it and it's the best Mirage ATM.
I'd also like to say i hope Toyhax makes some decals for this to spice it up a little.

Huh, I love Toyworld Kupp. Reminds me of the G1 toy and has no backpack. I don't see this guy as a huge improvement over MMC though either. To each their own.
Awesome review, thanks! I just recently got a sphinx second hand and gotta say this makes me think a bit about swapping it out. But there are things I love about sphinx this doesn't do for me either. Makes me curious and excited about the versus to see your thoughts. What I may end up doing is waiting for a re-paint of this guy and getting that if I have a spot for it since the figure looks solid :D

The thing is you have to look at the collecting community and decide which group represents the best business opportunity if satisfied. The straight down the line “toon” crowd, or the G1 guys that like a little sauce on their meat (so to speak). As of right now, I think the “toon” look guys are presenting the best opportunity. Why? Because if the 3P manufactures satisfy them, the others will also most likely buy as well, whereas if they stray away from the “toon” aesthetic, even a little, the “toon” only guys will likely pass and hold out for their preference to be properly done through someone else.
I am beginning to be glad that there's some shipping delays from Chimungmung, and Tony offered to have me wait for the 2nd batch.
Ah,.....I'm the first to see your video. I love everything you do and am a subber plus i watch everything from you. I've heard some great things about these figures as well some let down. I've not made the leap to much 3rd party other then KFC snapdragon and their tiger character (can't remember name) that combines with star saber. I just enjoy watching you transform them and your opinion. I can't do much else but i believe in what you do. Wished you and I where friends but i am just a simple person making my way in this world.
The did a fair job on the alt mode. Hope Ford doesn't catch that logo from the Cosworth DFV engine. They may be worse than Hasbro or Bandai on copyright.
If I had no Mirage, I'd get this; it's not some grand step forward from Sphinx that temps me to swap, though. Maybe if someone wanted to do a straight up trade that costs me nothing.

Just a psa my TE mirage arrived with both foot panels green and TE is not giving out replacements. Your looks fine though. Tfsource was good enough to shoot me a 5$ in store discount. Lucky both mine are green looks odd but matches. Folks check your version make sure you didnt get scewed.
This is pretty nice, despite the issues it has. (Gotta watch G1 again, pretty sure Mirage's blue wasn't that light a shade...but, like the purple of Shockwave & Galvatron, I guess it depends on what frame of animation it is)
That said, I don't know if there's enough to make me wanna choose this over the MMC one or vice versa, but they both annihilate that old DX9 one. Lookin' forward to the versus comparison!!
Good review. I like the look as it is matching the cartoon aesthetic mp is after now a days. The legs and feet look way better than mmc, but that is what 4 years of engineering advancements? I would be interested in a clear version. I have Liger and the TF con phasing version as well. Not sure if I will get it or not. I have been very tempted by their OP though. Looking forward to the versus...as always good review.

I can only speak for myself, but hoping you wait to do a comparison until the FT version comes out and do a three way. Though lord knows when that will be, they have been rolling out figures more quickly as of late, which you already commented on.

Its depends, if both hips are oriented the same youll be fine either way if you're not transforming him, but some came with only one wrong and then he'll stand still but obviously looks wrong.

The missile launcher doesn't fire. The silver part of the missile launcher slides in and out for transformation, since the missile launcher tucks between the front wheels in car mode.

I honestly dont mind cartoon acurate characters(nor do I specifically desire them to be cartoon acurate, I have no attachment to the cartoon from the 80s) , I have a cartoon sphinx from mmc which I like a lot, absolutely adore my takara sunstreaker and cartoon prowl. But this guy just looks WAY too freaking plain holy moly and im not a fan of its proportions at all, the chest looks off and it just looks like a big dofus.....which I honestly wouldnt mind if it also turned into a doofy car (I mean the car mode DOES look doofy but i dont think that was intended xD I meant more like a volkswagen beetle or stationwagon or boring civic doofy :P ) I gotta admit though that that transformation is pretty ingenious but I feel like its a bit more complex that it is worth it so to speak.
Something about the white and blue look cheap to me. The articulation with the hinge at the neck and ball peg into the head Takara did first with Ironhide, ratchet, Sunstreaker, BW Megs, BW Arachnia, V3 Prime and V2 Bumblebee. Seems TFE is definetly trying to fit with the Takara line
They nailed the asthetic, something no other company has done.

@@bradbattley1509 It looks good, in my opinion, but I think it's the first toon figure that leans into the toon a bit too much. It lacks some of dynamic look that something like Optimus Prime V3 or Quietus have.

You have the back wheels mistransformed. They should sit further forward. The secondary head and face are shorter than the stock ones.
The hips are only an issue on the first batch (and maybe even only the guest half of that), so people don't have to wait for a V2. If they're not comfortable doing it themselves they should check to see if it's from the corrected batch. TE recalled and delayed a bunch to resolve.
No instructions and the quality of chips and blobs of paint on mine are bad but could easily be painted and improved and i do like his size better then Sphinx

Mirage is one of my favourite transformers designs and I do really like this shade of blue......... it’s just, bot mode. It looks unfinished to me, I don’t know how else to describe it.
Be VERY careful with the pieces at 9:45 and 10:53! It's quite a soft plastic and they can completely break off (as I discovered to my cost).
I'd be very surprised if no one else has said this, but the instructions come via the QR code on the box.
Sphinx's highlights and colour breakup still make him pop to this day. Really can see why 3P hasn't pushed out another MP Mirage until now, where G1-ness seems to be what every company is going after. Super hyped for the versus!
How much diecast is on him?
I'd say none, unless you count the screws and pins.
I checked again, and I believe the feet are diecast. Very thick silver paint was used so it doesn't feel cold, but there is heft to it.

I'm all about the slave-to-the-cartoon less detailed robot mode, as that's what I've always wanted out of MP, and honestly toys in general was for my toy to look like it stepped right out of the screen. As a kid I was always disappointed that my toys didn't always look like the characters on my TV. For example, as a Power Rangers fan, I was always driven bonkers by the power coins they insisted painting on the chests of the figures.
That said, I fully understand those who want more detail for the sake of detail.
I couldn’t agree more on both accounts. Go go power rangers. Thank goodness Transformers and Power Rangers have perfect figures now.
And when they finally DO get their coin emblems built into the chest of their suits (MMPR: The Movie), *they're given entirely new suits* that were allegedly supposed to have returned for season 3, but ultimately didn't.

How? It's not a corporate logo and the word ford exists in the English language.
@@MentasmUK doesn't matter if it's not a corporate logo, it's an unofficial product and basically copyright infringement, mirage, elf, good and year are all words that exist in the English language but I don't see any of them on the car.
Because it's a toon accurate Mirage and none of those things are on the animation model... Why would a company committing IP infringement care any more about those words than Ford? Come to that, why on Earth would Ford care enough to go after a Chinese 3P toy manufacturer? Furthermore, Gitanes is a real brand of French cigarettes and this pretty much copies the livery from the Ligier JS11 that Mirage is based on, hence why it was always changed to Citanes before (not that either word should be one TE-03 because they're anachronistic to the design aesthetic). Why would TE use that but not the other things you mention if they feared retribution from copyright lawyers? Insights welcome.
The Ford Motor Co. could care less. Annually, they sell over 1 million F-series trucks in North America. Should they sue every automaker who copied their "Assembly Line" standard? Making affordable cars for everyone and not just the ultra-rich? They turned this country & every other industrialized nation into a Car Culture. Should automakers pay royalties for that?

Thx for this. I ll wait for FT to nail it either way, but i like this product. I always felt sphinx was overrated, hè feels really great material wise but i hated the way his feet (or should i say.... 🤣) were engineerd and how that little baby bib didn't quite sit flush... Atleast on mine

What is this obsession with FT? Have you seen the renders? They look worse than this. The articulation on their recent figures has been worse than this. It's years away and will be double the price of this.

Typrwriter fingers are a letdown for a figure that wants to be masterpiece grade.
Honestly I even prefer swappable hands to type writer fingers.
Man that Swipe looks dated. Always has. I can't believe loved that mold enough to buy all the repaints. I barely liked enough to just buy the KO. On a side note, I get the vibe you really didn't want to like this figure. You noted a lot of things you let slide on other figures.

And it'll probably have worse articulation going by the recent FT releases. The renders look worse than this now, so unless they improve it (which they haven't done with a load of their renders) you'll be waiting years for something that's marginally different at best.
Pope Platinum Beats the great thing about that is, I don’t have to have a mirage. I’m not a completists collector. Tbh, I’m more of a FansToys collector, or anything else that presses my “collectors” button. I really like the G1 look, but not a slave to it.

There is a value to it though, I believe. IE: IF it should survive the Skullface test you KNOW you're not likely to have too many problems with your buy. Structurally weak MP design/materials will inevitably be exposed.
