As a Mazda 3 owner I can say that the infotainment system is just very different from others today. Biggest difference is no touchscreen and the positioning more in the drivers field of view. Its not overloaded with options and graphics. Its purely designed to not distract the driver as much as possible. The rotary control and the few buttons around it never change position unlike in touchscreens and become muscle memory and easy to use without looking at what youre doing very quickly. Its just a different take than what other manufacturers do. The only thing thats annoying is typing into the navigation with the rotary controls :/

The 3 has a hybrid option but that didn't help IT!? You also told us the i30 has a great interior (save for some hard plastics, which BTW all small cars have to a greater or lesser extent), drives really well and has the best boot, but somehow that doesn't add up to beat the Corolla. Although still not perfect the 2021 CVT system is streets ahead without that annoying engine rev when accelerating with even a little vigor. Obvious things like the info/entertainment system and safety features are a vast improvement in 2021 but the harsh plastics of the interior make it the same undesirable place to sit in on long trips.

This smells like a paid video to promote the Corolla lol
The Mazda 3 has a far superior exterior/interior as it is clearly going for entry level luxury, it also offers a hybrid option too, so I don't understand how the Corolla has a competitive edge when the Mazda literally has a hybrid option as well. The infotainment is objectively better from an ergonomical standpoint, as the positioning is mounted to the drivers peripherals, and has the knob to make it quicker and safer to navigate. The UI is very simple and I don't know where the criticsm of it not being logical came from. What's not logical about twisting a knob and clicking it to go through menus? Also most people will be using apple carplay/android auto anyway 80% of the time lol
This video didn't even go indepth enough to compare each vehicle. Waste of time lol

By using the phase 'mild hybrid', you're instantly opening up a comparison to Toyota. Given that Toyota's tech has proliferated throughout its range for quite some time now, you're naturally going to get wised-up ex-Toyota hybrid customers rocking up to your dealership expecting something similar. Maybe looking for an upgrade, or something a little stylish, with the same sorts of benefits they're used to.
When they realise this isn't the case on a test drive, they'll walk away disgruntled. Even worse, however, is that they buy the car and not get the result they were expecting, and likely causing a worse headache for the brand.

In the last week again I test drove a Hyundai i30 base model hatch, Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport sedan (non-hybrid), the Mazda 3 Evolve sedan and the same Hyundai again. I found none of them particularly horrible to drive in regards to on road feel and none of them exceled over the other. However I not a fan of CVT (all cars are using the same CVT manufacturer from what I am told). The implementation of the technology has improved since it's inception, but it's just not there for me. In this respect I found the i30, on balance the best option, The interior materials of the Corolla are definitely a big turn off compared to Mazda and Hyundai and the Hyundai has rear passenger air venting in the base model which neither of the others do. (Mazda Evolve, The 3's second tier spec does). The better power and torque of the Hyundai motor, (not apparent in the Mazda... and I drive a lot on country roads therefore need assurance that power is in reserve to overtake) and the knowledge that the vehicle has been extensively tuned to Australian conditions got the Hyundai i30 over the line for me.

    • @CrunchyTire

the mazda doesnt use cvt and rear venting is really a non issue imo. We went decades with barely any cars having it yet they all managed to stay hot or cold without any issues. Especially these smaller cars. Its just such a rare occasion of needing backseat vents and if you're putting someone in the back seat, do they really matter that much anyway? Kids? They dont need vents? Granny? She'll be fine. Wife? She can sit up front. I see no problems.

Both Mazda and Hyundai have a myriad of possible problems, with Hyundai being particularly difficult if you end up with a fairly common manufacturers fault.
Mazdas go great until they don't, and their sensors can be literally buggy. As in, you drive through a locust plague and then have to go straight to the dealership.
Toyota's hybrid system has been long well established. You will literally not have to change your brake pads or battery in a Toyota hybrid for at least a decade.
The interior is incredibly simple, and will still look acceptable in a decade when you go in to get the brakes changed.
And of course the resale value will stay much higher than it's contemporaries.
If you're only looking at financial value, it's not a competition. And because so many people do only look at financial value, the corolla is still the most sold car in the entire world.

It's obvious these motor journalists are paid off
Wheels magazine was the worst at making out how good Mercedes was and in fact there one of the worst over priced junk shitboxes on the Australian market
Trust no one and educate yourself as best as you can
In my opinion the Hyundai I 30 in the base model is the best choice although the Mazda is very close
I just don't like the look of the Mazda
If you buy the Toyota you have to own it for 5 years to recoup the extra cost over the standard model
The Toyota interior is cheap and nasty
Also the Toyota is very underpowered overall with a prissy little boot

I drove a Corolla and couldn't believe how cramped it was, so with its below par performance, ridiculously tiny boot places it last for me, I30 second, and VW Mk8 golf miles ahead !

    • @adifferentangle7064

You do you. Just got a corolla ZR hybrid with everything for the Mrs.
Fixed price servicing for five years, 5L/100km fuel efficiency, cheap as chips for what it is, and it's a Toyota.
Batteries won't need to be changed for at least 12 years, brake pads won't need changing for at least 8 years.
I'm 6'1 and can comfortably fit myself behind myself in the car and unlike most other vehicles I can sit in the back without wedging my head under the roof.
Boot space is a small sacrifice for what is an unbeatable daily roustabout.
When every family has at least two cars sacrificing a bit of boot space in the one you drive the kids to school in isn't a deal breaker.
