- Today we hit our local Insurance Auto Auctions Salvage Auction and found some RARE cars! A BARELY damage Lotus Elise, a (previously) super clean modded Nissan Skyline, some REALLY wrecked Mustangs GT's, Corvettes and much much more!

I’ve got an Elise (in good weather) as my daily driver, but I’m only 5’9” and 145 lb. Easy to get in and out, once you come up with a method and stick with it. Love it.
Lee, you should absolutely get the R32. I'm no Nissan fanboy, but those are very cool, and I would love to watch a video series of you repairing one. Plus the guys from the shop trying to get used to driving a car with right hand drive!
I've actually owned an r32 GTR before! It was a rust bucket though.
I'd like to build one, but it'll have to be a GTR!
For the Elise they come with a cobra immobilizer. There is a button you need to press before the car will even turn on the key fob. I removed it from mine because if your fob dies you are stranded :P It does look like the radiator is missing which is sus. But there is not much going on in the front. Radiator, oil coolers and some piping. All easy work if you know how to work on toyotas.
The Elise is a track day monster. Small engine, but so much quicker than bigger engine cars. It would easily beat many V8’s in the twisties.

There is a technique for getting in and getting out of an Elise. K-swap or add a supercharger. Nothing special about body parts, there is plenty of these running around in the UK. Besides a good body shop could repair the fiberglass. Don’t be afraid of it, great car and like nothing else.

May be a blown head gasket as well as front damage. I’m 6’2” and used to drive one daily, don’t think you had the seat all the way back 👍 Getting out takes a bit of practice, you’d get used to it, you should def get one!

My Elise was nearly a write-off with a little damage to the front too - Expensive damaging those clams, but would be a great project. I’m 6’2 so no excuses 😂

I’ve parted out 3 late model mustangs now that we’re just absolutely smashed, now I do this by myself in my 30x40 garage and I’ve made pretty good money.
Doing it small scale is when the money is the best, trust me!

Often wonder about salvage engines and how they hold up in a major wreck. A lot of these look like the hits were(taken/given) high rpm, high lateral g's on fast moving parts that most likely stopped suddenly or were oil starved.(crankshaft,cams.rods,etc.)???

One lotus forum owner ran over a strange large block of wood that was on the road. As the wood block tumbled, and rolled under the car it left numerous large dents on the undercarriage, which is an aluminum tub. The tub is the chassis. Any damage to the tub, and the car is considered totaled.

I owned an elise and suspect that Paul below might have sold it to me as 6' 2" sounds right (Hi Paul). Once in the car, even super tall people fit and a 3 hour ride is great (done it many times). As others mentioned, the entire front of the car is one piece and called the front clam. Lotus says that ANY damage like shown requires a full clam replacement. Clams from Lotus are expensive and even 10 years ago, took 6-12 months to get. With the car out of production for 10 years now, I would bet that it's 2 or 3 years. They also don't allow aftermarket from a safety standpoint, so yes, that is a total right there. I would have tried to start the car although the Toyota 2ZZ engine is plentiful and cheap enough to do a stock replacement. You also got it right to do a Honda K series swap and if you want a Z06 killer (the car weighs less than 2000 pounds), a turbo K20 will do it. Don't write off all of Lotus with this one. The Evora is way bigger. It's also 50% heavier. I won't say it's Corvette or Porsche easy to get in, but is certainly easier than an Elise. Oh, if you want to see how difficult it is for anyone to get in/out of an Elise, watch the old Top Gear episode where Jeremy does it. I'm 5' 9" and could get in and out. Note how I didn't say "easily".

You should try to get a sponsorship from fantix I think it’s called they have awesome compact jumper packs that are multipurpose as well especially since you do a lot of walk around at these lots and very informative to say the least. I used to be very partial to your videos because I liked to see these cars get a second chance at life before becoming scrap, but I stay because of the informative side of things that you show on your channel.

You WILL fit the Elise, May be a dead battery and that car looks track ready if no electrical problems... which seeing that big speaker in the floor makes me think someone may have spliced somewhere they shouldn't have.. GET IT When I was thinking about one, I had someone let me try theirs to sit in.... (I'm 6'.0 but a tall torso same as 6'2")... next weekend I owned one.
PS- top off greatly improves access. 😃
Maybe I coult leave the top off and just hop in over the door.. it can't be any worse...

I know a guy who was big into lotus, he had an elise that he loved letting people try to get into. He offered me a chance, I declined, didn't want to bust a 2000 dollar glove box or whatever my knees would been shoved into.

One little crack on them they get totaled also the battery die on them so fast if they don’t start it often or keep it on a battery tender.

I don't know what it is about these videos but they are really interesting . Are some of these cars like the s2000 cars someone may have died in ? How is that handled do they clean them up before selling ? Just curious when seeing some of these cars and really bad shape . Thanks
Ive watched a ton a auction videos on youtube and the normal rules are if someone dies in the car youll see it covered by a red bag and its under police investigation for sometime. Then its labeled with bio stickers all over the car. After everything is all set by the police it might get cleaned up some. But If someone gets hurt but no (fluids) escape there body then its just a car with a story

Are the Elise aluminum frame cars? I always thought they were due to the lotus mantra on weight. Always was told aluminum frame cars total out in even parking lot bumps a lot of times due to frame damage and the cost of repairing it.
Yes, Aluminum frame, but virtually nothing to protect "the car", so the exterior more or less sacrifices itself to protect the frame. The clam bodywork is so expensive to fix to factory spec, they get totaled. There are a fair amount of Totaled Elises out there with ZERO frame damage. Usually has to be an obvious hit before you get frame damage... chunks and pieces of fiberglass with the car.

These cars can have irreversible chassis damage. The chassis is built using a unique extruded bonded aluminum method. If it’s tweaked it’s unrepairable making it worth nothing more than a parts car. Some people search for these with tub damage so they can buy them cheap, hide the damage, distract buyers with other minor fiberglass damage, and flip them at salvage auctions to unsuspecting buyers thinking they can fix and flip it but Lotus enthusiasts know what they’re looking at.
I think the car from Fast & Loud was actually a Ford Falcon. I could be wrong.

Lotus sold for $18,575 plus fees.
I'm not entirely sure about the K swap , Honda's are pretty good but I don't think they have the reliability of Toyota .

"Elige" cars get totaled so quickly when there is front or rear clam damage. Silly, but - Clams are expensive if you can get your hands on one in pristine condition, used. Laboris intensive, but not the end of the world. I hate that so many US Eliges on the road have branded titles because of this.

- Good start with having more Sports cars but I lost my interest quickly because there weren't.
- I did the “Elvan Wood” speed reading on the rest of this video.
- Maybe after seeing 4-5 salvage videos in a row was too much for a me
- That I am never going to buy anything off one of these lots.
- Not enough time in my life to do that and have time left over for anything else in my life.
I don’t think I have seen a Lotus on any of your past salvage trips but I have seen your play list and you have WAY more salvage videos than my mind can handle.
In a previous salvage video you said something like," what should I do next on the show(s).

@20:10 They aren't really that rare unless your domestic market is cut off from imports for a long time by a policy and the remainder of them is riced or destroyed by juveniles. 🤷♂ In Europe they start from 17 grand in drivable condition, which is not cheap but not overly expensive either.
I’m 6’2” and have an S1 (with the higher sills) - trick is to take the roof off, no one can get in with the roof on, still hope for you 😉
Buying a Elise is like a women buying a wedding dress that is two sizes to small. You just change your metabolism so you can fit in it :). If I gained 40 pounds I wouldn't be able to fit in my Sprite.
