The i3-3220's are pretty decent Linux surfing machines, Just upgraded and fixed 8 of them (HP's) that were forgotten although they're the T version. 35W. They are now public surfing machines in a refugee center. If they break, no loss.

@@RestoTek Put Linux Mint 22 on them, they're speedy buggers, there isn't a huge difference between those and newer i3's up to the 7th gen at least.

3rd gen i3 is still a good tester for the boards that can accept it, and better than a Celeron or Pentium series at least in the same motherboard. And either of which can become the new tester to risk new boards on. Then the i3 can stay in the working ones until you get a better i5, i7 or Xeon

Yeah that's not a bad idea, would love a concept where there's a board that could accommodate say 20 cpus and they are used for mining only, that would be 🤪

and they can be useful with the right mindset and choice of os, though of course a i5, i7 or Xeon is better. Testing for any generation is worthwhile (after you test out which still works with a board that can take them and is known to work)
After all a new motherboard that wasn't tested has the potential to kill it instantly so why risk the better one first?
