Meet the Artist: Meriem Bennani | Whitney Biennial 2019

In the lead-up to the Whitney Biennial 2019, we visited five artists in their studios to learn more about their work. The fifth and final episode of the series features Meriem Bennani at her studio in Brooklyn. For the Biennial, Bennani created two videos which are shown in a large-scale installation she calls a "video viewing garden"-an environment comprising planters and futuristic, absurdist seating. Combining multiple visual languages and drawing on the aesthetic and narrative conventions of documentary, reality television, advertising, social media, and digital animation, Bennani's video works explore the subject of the post-colonial French-Moroccoan relationship.
