As a military family living in a 3 bedroom, one bath apartment, our rent was 120,000¥ a month. That doesn’t include water, gas, electric, and phone. The yen rate to the US dollar was about 146¥. Rent cost about $860. We loved our apartment!

I was surprised, because 20 000 yen (156 euros) for groceries from supermarket monthly feels like not a big amount, seeing the whole variety of delicious food Nami is always cooking. I live in Tallinn, Estonia and I am spending about twice that amount. Food must be really cheap in Japan! Very interesting overview, thank you very much for sharing with us.
I noticed Nami is a smart shopper. There is this grocery shop close to her former apartment, where vegetables are affordable. I am sure she will finde smart places for shopping in her new neighbourhood, too.

I lived on a similar budget in Japan, but I saved almost no money unfortunately because I found it hard to track my spending (only using cash, cards and applications were only just becoming more common when I left). Now back in my home country I see the importance of saving first, rather than saving whatever is left over. My standard of living hasn't changed much at all, but I have been able to save so much more just by setting aside a set amount each time I get paid. Anyway, it's just different styles of budgeting, and we should each do what works for us :)

@vedcon I used to save everything first - this is a good starting point, however, do be very careful. I am almost 50 now, and as I look back I see patterns where I easily could have taken a holiday here or there with my partner, year after year and didn’t. Those potential experiences are lost and the memories have value, be it a holiday or a night out with friends, so balance is important.

Okay, Nami. I am addicted to your videos. You take such care to make every piece of food and drink LOOK beautiful as well as be healthy. Thank you for sharing.
I really enjoy your videos, living in the UK is so different to where you are. Thankyou for sharing your life experience. Debbs xxx
Thank you for sharing your life in this video! Your cuisine is amazing. I also like your idea to balance clothes shopping on months when you don’t have the salon. I will have to try that! ❤️ from Florida, USA 🌴
Hello Nami, I just found your channel a couple of days ago and I'm really enjoying it. You make me feel peaceful.

And then there’s me trying to convert the yen to american dollars to see how my budget compares 😄
Me too but I’m Australian dollars lol
😅😅...me too...apparently one yen is R0.14...so living expenses are about the same in South Africa...

I liked watching the food preparation and cooking and presenting it in a nice way
Just came across your videos. I am from Singapore, I never been to japan before. Your videos really helps to give me an impression of how living in japan is like.
Greetings from London, Nami, thanks for sharing this video, it's so interesting how you manage your finances by using various apps and a good insight into costs in Japan. I love your apartment, you have made it look lovely. The food you prepaired also looked very tasty. It's so important to be happy where you live. Take care x
This was very helpful. I watched it twice once for the money management as again for the cooking! 🥰 I love your videos
