Thank you for this video, my wife and I always try to support the smaller local businesses when you visit the Hawaiian islands. Can't wait to try some of these the next time we make it out.
Nice one. Flying to Maui on Friday and this is definitely useful. I'm after good poke bowls which is my favourite here in the UK. Need to try original.
Mahalos Braddah,Great video this is some of the places that I grew up with.Let me take u down memory lane.Sam Satos Restaurant use to be in Puunene than they moved to Wailuku,Tasaka Guri Guri they were in the Kahului Shopping Center, than they moved to Maui Mall no where in the world you can find there sherbert one of a kind.Home Maid Bakery I think they were up on Vineyard below the Bowling Alley I forget so long ago.By the way is the Bowling Alley still open?My fav is Tokyo Tei there Shrimp Tempura so mouthwatering.Got to come home soon Have'nt been to Maui since 2010.
Chee! I remember going Sam satos when was down happy valley 😃 and I miss when guri guri used to have azuki bean inside 🤤 da bowling alley closed for awhile but just opened up couple years ago 👍🏽 an yea braddah gotta go back! It’s nutz how much things changed now. Mahalos for da support 🤙🏽
April 2023...we just returned. We’ll definitely visit some of those locations on our next trip. I don’t care for Taro, sweet or savory. Rice is an Asian grain, not Hawaiian, so I don’t want to pay for that. Aren’t there Hawaiian vegetable dishes that aren’t Portuguese or Asian(Chinese)? My favorite food on this trip is the Mona Loa Macadamia Rocky road ice cream, made with macadamia nut milk, which I haven’t found here in California.
I'm not sure of a vegetable dish but authentic hawaiian would be like lau lau, poi, fish, and kalua pig. Hawaii is a mixed place of races though so there's going to be some type of other influence no matter where you go there. An dat ice cream sounds awesome 🤤
Nice vlog, food looks ono! And THANK YOU for pronouncing "wonton" & "jindui" correctly - people take note! Looking forward to ur next food vlog. Promote local in N Cal too, lots of mom & pops here need some luv.
Thanks for the info! I've tried a couple of these places 2 years ago but i'm coming back next month..where's part 2??? 😁😁 i was thinking to try one of these dinner on a boat..is there one good for kids? Mahalo!!
Haha workin on part 2 😁 for dinner cruises I only know of “Pride of Maui” and they have a sunset luau tour too. I’m sure there’s more but dats da one I know of. Mahalos for da support 🤙🏽
i've lived here since 1972 and i concur with this. another : tastie crust, (pancakes). oh yes Tiffany's was taken over by a great chef......lower main, sort of near tokyo tei
What? No Tasty Crust? No Kalei's? No Bamboo Grill? No Stillwell's? No can! Just kidding, this is a fun list and now I'm hungry for some Tin Roof Mochiko Chicken or some tempura from Tokyo Tei!
What about Bamboo Grille in Wailuku. There fried rice broke da mouth. They have a lot of local foods. A gem tuck on the upper parking of Puunene Towers.
Damn bringin' it back old school with some of the spots! I grew up going to Tasaka's, Sam Sato's, Komoda's, Tokyo Tei and even Pukalani Superette. Did you move back??
My family and I will be in Maui in 2 weeks staying in Kihei . I heard the food truck park is good . Any tips or advice would be welcome . Staying near Keawakapu Beach. Can not wait to visit , it will be my 2nd time in Maui , was there back in 2006. Have a blessed day.
Nice 👍🏽 Kihei Cafe is our favorite out there and coconuts fish tacos and Maui brewing company are worth a stop. If you wana go fancy Andaz hotel is nearby and have a luau, but I think Old lahaina luau is still open as well. Have fun 🤙🏽
Hi Cathy, usually kalua pig will come on da side of Hawaiian plate lunches but if you want kalua pig only, you can check out pukalani superette for good pig. Sparky’s food company and zippys also have kalua pig but usually only on fridays. There’s also a lot of food trucks near the Costco and some food trucks in Kihei that have different foods with Kalua pig (nachos, tacos, etc). Your right though, Luau’s are Super expensive nowadays 😳
Absolutely have to try a bunch of these next time I'm on the island. Especially the mom and pop shops. I try to spend as much of my tourist dollar with locally owned businesses. I also try to absorb the most authentic culinary experience of the local culture when possible and I've found that the locally owned restaurants are the way to go for this.
Sadly Homemaid bakery has closed their doors 😢
Thank you for your video. I’ve been looking for a video just like this as I’ll be going to Maui next week.
Awesome! have fun 🤙🏽
