    ABOUT THIS GAME
An extraterrestrial probe is detected approaching Earth. Unknown to humanity, an alien force has arrived in the far reaches of the icy Kuiper Belt and has begun mining a dwarf planet to prepare for an invasion.
With Earth’s nations unable to unite to address the alien arrival, transnational groups of like-minded political, military and scientific leaders develop covert channels to coordinate a response. With the aliens' motives uncertain, factions emerge, driven by hope, fear or greed.
You will control one of these factions.
The Resistance works to form an alliance of nations to mount a coordinated defense
Humanity First vows to exterminate the aliens alongside any who sympathize with them
The Servants worship the aliens and believe they will solve all the troubles of the world
The Protectorate advocates negotiated surrender as the only means to avoid annihilation
The Academy hopes the alien arrival heralds the opportunity to form an interstellar alliance
The Initiative seeks to profit from the chaos and destruction
Project Exodus plans to build a massive starship and flee the Solar System
    Gameplay
From the creators of Long War, Terra Invicta bridges the gap between civilization on Earth and the vast interstellar empires of other space strategy games. Gain command over Earth's nations and take humanity’s first steps in colonizing our Solar System where over 300 asteroids, moons and planets in constant motion create an ever-changing strategic map.
You begin on Earth as the head of a shadowy organization competing with other factions for control points representing a region's military, economic and political leadership. Geopolitics is your sandbox, and you may unite or break apart nations as best serves your ends, while using those under your influence to conduct proxy wars against the other six factions.
Factions work through a council of politicians, scientists and operatives whose abilities can be enhanced by obtaining influence over organizations like intelligence agencies or powerful corporations.
Terra Invicta has a global research system that creates opportunities for both competition and cooperation. Shared scientific advancement unlocks private engineering projects. Factions can choose to focus on private projects, at the cost of weakening Earth as a whole and ceding influence over global research direction to other factions with different priorities.
The other six human factions are not your sole competition. Throughout the game, illustrated events will present you with difficult choices as you investigate growing alien activity on Earth.
You cannot remain on Earth alone, and space launch facilities are of vital strategic importance.
Your conflict with the other factions will extend to space, where you will compete to mine asteroids and construct bases on planets and moons throughout the Solar System.
Stations built deep in space can refuel your ships, while those closer to home can serve as research or construction facilities.
Spaceship design in Terra Invicta draws from the best of scientific speculation and hard science fiction. You can design your own ships, selecting from an array of weapons, drives and radiators to place on a variety of hulls.
Tactical combat is built around a realistic simulation of Newtonian physics, where momentum and maneuver in 3D space are just as important as the firepower your ships carry.
    Mods
Terra Invicta is built with modding support in mind, and much of the game is accessible to modders without a coding background. We hope that the Solar System setting and geopolitics simulation will provide a useful framework for modders to realize their own creative visions.

The councilor cost (30/60) is based on whether they match your factions ideology or not. An executive is ideologically opposed to the resistance, so costs 60, while an activist is ideologically matching, so costs 30. Also the countries you control affects who you see, to at least a small degree I believe. Once I controlled the USA I started getting Evangelists as an option :P
1 item I don't think was mentioned, is I believe I saw in an ingame hint or from another stream - if you don't invest research in one of the overall tech paths it will take longer for your faction projects to pop up. Like, if you don't put any research into space mining, the space mining complex project will take longer to appear as an option. Which can be a big problem if you were trying to jumpstart space mining quick.

    • @JohnVanderbeck
      @JohnVanderbeck ปีที่แล้ว +1

It is more accurate to say that you need tech from the above row unlocked in order to open up tech on the bottom row. So "putting points in" indirectly affects your own choices.

    • @halkihaxx5
      @halkihaxx5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@JohnVanderbeck No, how much you put in determines fow quickly you'll get the research options. Even if you don't contribute any you'll still get it, just later than those that contributed.e
Thought there was supposed to be a bonus for spreading the research more, but apparently they were just considering it in the dev diary. Interesting bit, if you research multible projects from the same category you lose some of your research bonus. Only 1/10 of the total bonus so not much of a worry unless you're way behind on some category and would like to catch up.

Rolling under your goal is not really weird. Many great table top games do this. Specially if they are rolling a 100 side dice. Aka percentage dice. Because your playing with a percent dice. It easier to say 1-x = pass. Then x-100 = pass. If you go with low rolls are better. I can just eye ball the roll and tell if I passed. While with higher rolls are good like in DnD. I have to do math and sit there thinking if X is in the pass area. For example if my chance to pass is 69. The low rolls it is easy to go 1-69 = pass. While on the higher rolls. I have to sit their and think for a second as I need to remember they need to roll 31-100 to pass.
So the rolling under your percent dice is not weird. It very smart as it just a simple way of doing percent dice rolls. You knowing what you need to pass and instantly telling if you have passed by looking.

Comments on one-tenth of the way through my first play through:
    - Randomly selected Project Exodus ('hey Siri, give me a random number between 1 and 7).
    - Did the "Grand Strategy / Strategy / Tactics" routine at the start to determine what to focus on.
    - Emphasized Science as I need to build a non-existing Space Ark.
    - Picked up control points in a few countries (Cuba, Finland, Ireland, Venezuela, Mexico) while waiting on my Improve Popularity in the USA.
    - USA has great Science, that's why I targeted it.
    - Took a few years to take USA, the other smaller countries took a few weeks each.
    - Spent about 3 hours offline in the Tech Tree to determine as Exodus to focus on Interstellar Launch Facility and thus Titanic Spacecraft (holy **** those are expensive).
    - Enjoying the unknown of first play through: am I targeting the right projects? the right countries?
    - Enjoying killing the Xenoflora that the Aliens are pooping onto Earth. Killing Xenoflora doesn't directly help me, but it's fun and it keeps some countries producing so that those factions can contribute to global science research.
    - Interacting with the other factions is a bit fiddlely, requiring at least two steps (usually many more) of going through councilors, with no way to target which faction you want to talk to. Maybe move this option to Faction level? It can take years before you can trade with the faction you want to trade with. Not sure what they're trying to simulate here, or how this is fun gameplay.
    Things I screwed up on:
    - Missed the rush to the Moon by a few months. I waited after Mission to the Moon was finished for the game to tell me I could go to the moon. Turns out once the Moon is available, a button appears once you click on the Moon
    - Missed the "Solar System" and "Country" information screens (or maybe those are not there at start?). So I didn't know how to send probes (hint - it's done in "Solar System"), didn't know how to find what countries I had control points in (hint - it's in "Country").
    - Didn't focus on getting control of the Global Science Research early enough. It's VITAL to get control of this research direction so that you can pick the projects that get you to your Grand Strategy goal (in my case, Titanic Spaceships). I want the other factions to spend their Science helping me, not helping themselves.

I was planning a moon mission for a while and forgot for a few weeks after the moon mission tech was researched. Found my enemies already had bases set up, but thankfully _not_ in the pearl sea or crater or whatever. So I popped a probe and a base there. Supposedly it has 4 - 10 water, 0 - 4 volatiles and I think it said 2+ minerals. While everyone else landed in sparse areas.
So fat I managed to get U.S, Canada, Mexico, Pakistan, Iran, and Kazakhstan. And half of Japan. I lead the world in research by a wide margin. To the point where for a couple months there, I was able to divide my research into fourths for 3 main tech and 1 faction. And I watched as the two other factions apparently gave up researching global tech after I hit over 90% contributed in all 3. It ended up stalling global research for a bit 😂 because after getting over 50% of the total costs, I dumped almost all my research into faction projects and shit just wasn't getting funded lol.
Playing as the Resistance (XCOM) I'm fighting off large amounts of alien fauna in south America. But I still don't know what I'm doing 😂

My first game felt borked so i started again.
Started with the ISS which i thought was a boon.
But no councilors capable of protecting assets, cracking down, or purging for almost a year.
Tool control of Kazakhstan first, for their space program. Then i took Pakistan and Iran for their militaries, just incase i needed them.
Shortly after instarted grabbing up african nations for small research boosts and spoils. After a couple months i took spain and got started on their space program.
I felt brave another few months later, and poured 3 councilors out of my 5, into improving my relations with the U.S. didnt help all that much, so I pivoted to Canada. Managed to get pretty lucky and got Canada, then America followed suit. Then Mexico.
Same sort of strat, increase public relations, then sejd my highest PER stat guys in. With America's army and space program, i not longer had much need for my african or middle eastern nations and i abandoned most of them except Iran, Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
Spain stayed with me until i forgot about it. At some point their space program completed but by next year the Initiative took it from me.
Currently im fighting down in South America, trying to beat back the growing tide of alien fauna in Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil and their neighbors.
I thought invading Venezuela would make it American territory, i was wrong it was just an expensive regime change.
Now im trying to research contact relations so i can unify the continents, but the fuckin servants are busy annexing everyone around Russia and i have no idea how they are doing that without the research.
This game doesnt explain its concepts very well, despite committing the gaming sin of frontloading its tutorial with bombarding text boxes. Which makes some of the things feel extremely bullshit to new players. How did i fail a roll with 98% success chance on a 99% roll? How does that make sense compared to rolls ive done with a 38% success chance and a 56% roll? These arent explained, and feel nonsensical. Pointing it out in discussions is met with ridicule by the players.
Or, why is The Servants able to annex territory without the global tech?
This is why im here lol. This playthrough seems super lucky and i would like to survive it

In my current game I unified soemthing like 6-7 and it really sucks. Good to keep control of the region because it's much harder for enemies agent to have successful actions but you lose so much. 6 nations Europe = 20 pts. Just Sweden alone has 10... 😭
Gets especially bad for boost research... 6 nations boost = 0.16-032 per 2 boost. Sweden gets an insured 0.16/2pts.

People keep saying this is like XCOM, but as far as I can see it looks much more like "Superpower" or "Power and revolution" or something.
XCOM was all about tactical turn-based battles.
This is real-time grand strategy, right?

XCOM influenced because it was made by the team behind the Long War mods on the latest XCOM games.
In terms of 'where it sits', probably the best place with other games that I've played is between Hearts of Iron and Stellaris though governments taking more of a back seat to global political factions that are responding to learning for a fact that we aren't alone in the galaxy in different ways.

@@Ghrathryn Yeah, I am aware that the devs were involved in the long war mod for XCOM.
But aside from the theme of an "alien invasion" on current-year Earth, the gameplay is completely different from XCOM as far as I can see.
Granted, I haven't played Terra Invicta yet, so maybe there is some tactical battle stuff in the late-game, but I haven't seen any in the YT vids I've seen about this game so far.

@@Antares2 It becomes slightly more like XCOM with space battles but even then it's more like that 40k game that is about space battles than XCOM.

January 8 2023. Watching these old TH-cams is amusing. They had no idea how Catastrophic things would happen. *Eats catfood with rusty knife* No idea...
