    Hey guys, Rattan’s price for this model is actually $1499, and not $1399 as mistakenly said at 0:45 in the video. Sorry about that!

      A bit confusing. I purchased the pre-order Fat Bear and thought I was getting the bike you reviewed. There was only one fat bear on Rattan.com untill today. It would have been much more clear if you could have had both bikes to review at the same time together. The misunderstanding about the price and color display, distance it can go was all confusing. I thought you were talking about the same bike I bought.They just put the fat bear Plus on their site today for sale at $1.500 before the presale discount. Now I wish that I would have waited. I hope that they will let me upgrade before my bikie is shipped out on the 15th. The 40 to 60 miles statistic has now upgraded with the plus version too. They now say that the New Fat Bear Plus that they posted on pre-order today will go 70 to 90 miles on a single charge.

      How good is this kind of suspension? I have a spinal injury and I am thinking something like this might be a good mobility aid. I am wondering about the shocks, because jolts to the spine in a car or on the bus are one of the worst things for me. Also, is this the typical price, or can these features be found for less? I just need reliability, folding and good suspension, but not all the computer stuff. I am hoping to get back to uni and finish my degree, but have not been able to find a way to deal with the mobility issues yet (Auckland uni is only a 10-15 minute walk from home that I can do occasionally at a push, but had to stop going because I just could not do that walk daily). An e-bike with good shocks might just be the solution.

  • @stratostear
    @stratostear 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    The shock probably has 30 mm of compression. That's not the same as suspension travel. That bike has a Horst link design so it's likely 3.25:1 leverage ratio. Meaning around 100 mm of vertical rear wheel travel.

    Rattan emailed the FedEx tracking number for my Fat Bear this morning. They also sent an email clarifying more of how the system operates. They informed me that with the Color LCD monitor the system does not actually have any drag in it when in mode 2 or 3. When in mode 0 or 1 pedaling, going down hill when reaching a speed of 18mph or greater the rider will experience some drag resistance in the system. This resistance is the regeneration capabilities kicking in and working converting kinetic energy and storing it in the battery for more miles per charge. Amazing!

      Hey Clifford-glad it's on the way. I ordered one yesterday and noticed they immediately placed it on "shipped" but I see it's only "on paper" or "preshipment". Hopefully I'll receive a tracking number in the next couple of days. If you want to do a review here or even make an unboxing video I'd love to see it. Good luck.

      @@mobeale I received the same email immediately after I made the purchase marking shipping to be fulfilled but with no FedEx tracking number. I wasn't too concerned about that at first because the website stated at that time that the pre-order bikes would be shipped out on Oct 15th. Then when they added the new fat bear plus bike to the website and I asked them if I could upgrade to it they replied that I could not upgrade because my bike had already been shipped out but that they would send me the color LCD display free, so that I can make my Fat Bear into the plus version. I told them that I needed my FedEx tracking number as their website says that they will send this info. The next day they were able to provide me with the FedEx tracking number and the shipment has been shipped out that very same day from California not actually even Canada according to FedEx. I have no idea what is going on with all of that? You may very well want to ask them where your FedEx tracking number is. Maybe I will do an unboxing on here. I know I will be making a video of it. I will continue to put updates on here. I just want to help clarify and show the truth of my buying experience.

    I appreciate that you took the bike on some challenging trails instead of just a parking lot. Also great that you had both hands on the bars instead of trying to hold a camera with one. That’s always irked me with the other reviews. This is much more helpful and realistic . I’ve backed the Juiced HyperScorpion and I can’t wait to get it in March but this looks like a great choice for an off-road bike. The main reason I went for the Scorpion is the full suspension. My current folding ebike only has front suspension and those long rides can really start to feel long!

    I did not receive what I was promised . These are just (2)
    1.Battery: 48V 11.6AH lithium battery with Samsung 18650-29e cells
    2. Motor: 48V 500W I-PAS system dedicated motor.

    I can't confirm # 1 because I can't get the batter out!
    #2 The motor that I received say's its a 36 volt 350 watt motor.

      Hi, Jason
      Thanks for reaching out to us!
      We are sorry that the description on the website has caused you some misinformation.
      The fat Bear and Fat Bear Plus have "nothing different" except for the display. And the reason we named them into two different models is because of this little dsiplay makes things a big different.
      When we designed fat bear, we defined it as an energy efficient electric bike, so we tried to limit the output power of the motor and all the external components that could consume the battery as much as possible on the premise of satisfying the rider's needs. We did our best to let it reach to a longer miles range and we did it. Yes, the fat bear has the regenerative feature, but we shut it down because we knew it will drag you down. (In order to ensure charging efficiency, the drag force will not be small and ignored, and you will have a noticeable slowing down feeling)
      But we also know that some customers like off road, they need stronger power and faster speed. So we lauched the Plus version. ( We sent it to EBR to make a review.) We lifted the motor output limit and activated regenerative features. We know it's better for people who like new things and are willing to try them. We always want people to try our regenerative features even it has some although it has some negative effects, because we firmly believe that this technology may be widely used in electric bicycles in the future. And the key to open all these features is the color dsiplay. You need it to activate all the features. You will get more fun, more power and more choices with it.
      Again, we are sorry for the misleading description on our website and will update them ASAP.
      And your bike has been shipped out and we can send you a free color display for the test if you like.

    Backed the Mate X and this bike has similar features. The battery on the Mate X is 750 ms and the HUD display on this bike review is also reminiscent to the the Mate X. I’m wondering if this was a manufacturer that had lifted the Mate X designs due to the tariff wars that had happened to Chinese manufacturers which is why the campaigners for the Mate X move their production to Taiwan avoiding the trade wars between US and China.

    Does anyone have a true weight for the Plus model? Specs says 50 lb but that sounds light for suspension bike.

    • @howardfowler2255
      @howardfowler2255 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For a fat tire bike with a 48 v. battery and full suspension I would guess the 50 lbs. listed on Rattan's site is not accurate- it's probably more like the 59.2 lbs. As listed on EBRs site. Fifty lbs. sound too good to be true. Add fenders ,a rack(?), and a suspension seat post and you're probably looking at 60+ lbs. But I could be wrong. I wish e bike websites didn't fudge on their stats to make them their products look better!

    We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

    You site says this bike will go 40 to 60 miles with a 750 watt peak output . Wrong bike, even though they do look exactly the same. They gave you the wrong specs. It all comes clear now that they came out with the plus version yesterday. And your review you don't say "Fat Bear Plus" verbally. You keep saying "Fat Bear" which was all that they had until yesterday. Very unclear! You were there only marketing mouthpiece

    I regret buying this bike and after less than 20 miles I’m trying to sell it at a steep loss. This bike is incredibly frustrating to ride. The pedal assist doesn’t fully kick in on hills and the throttle cuts off immediately when you pedal so even a tiny hill and you’re on your own. I own two rad bikes and an Ancheer and those have been fine. Avoid.
