Forgiveness is priceless! Unforgiveness is the enemy's way of destroying the victims! Harboring anger in your heart only hurts you! The one who harmed you forgets about the deed and forgets about what he did! I too was hurt by someone and carried it for years. Many years later I saw how it effected my life and asked God to forgive any part I may have played in it and gave the rest for God to handle with this person. The rest was between them and God! I became good friends with this person as a result of letting it go! I found through that experience that owning up to my bitterness and letting it go to God, I then was free to love the other person and not hold on to a bitter spirit! I encourage everyone to do this! You will find such peace with God! It is freeing!

One of the horrible tragedies of this situation is that the woman blamed God at all for her fathers death. It wasn't God who took her father it was Satan. God doesn't control "everything" like others' free will.
    John 10:10 (KJV)
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

    • @LaneJane23
      @LaneJane23 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

God does control all. He is all powetful. Even free will is something he allows so that when we choose him, it is authentic and based on faith.

Sometimes we wrestle with God.....and we do sometimes blame Him even though we know the truth. She had to work out that with God and she did. I hope when your midnight hour ever comes.....that you will pass the same faith and doubt test she had. I understand her humanity. She was a little girl when she LOST her mother....and then her father. In her little mind.....her parents loved Jesus and how could God let this happen. Be easy on her. I'm thankful her and the Lord worked it out.

We are all just passing thru this life. It may seem that evildoers prevail but this life is like a vapor of smoke compared to eternity. Going to jail IS what saved his life- his real life. Oh and don't fret about evildoers. There will be a better class of people in hell. Those who had all they wanted and lived for themselves on earth

I read this book and it angered me thatt the parents allowed their children to be tormented like this, I did not quite understand that, they weer all in grave danger(,BOOMS people)and the mental torment was extraordinary, they should have told that man to leave and never come back, they risked the entire congregation. However when this man got saved he left money in his will to this girl for her college tuition which shows remorse, but I still feel this was too extreme to tolerate his bahavior, I dont think it was worth all those people dying

Don Schwellenbach when Gods one your side even when parents are helpless he can provide help, if he isn’t though, no matter what the parents do, they can’t protect their children.... kingdom principle, unless the lord builds the house, they build it in vain who built it...

I’m glad she found it in her heart to forgive this man. I would have given up my job and position rather than put up with a stalker who was bombing the family home. The man ran the town and clearly the police department. We have to look at the history of that era. Women were expected to stay married to abusers. Police blamed victims. Families suffered in silence. Murderers got no time. He should have been tried for 1st degree murder. The murders were premeditated. Such a sad story. Talk about childhood PTSD.

Great story and a great book to read and great faith to live and it is not easy. She said it best in her book; "bitterness is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die." Great theology and a difficult walk. God's blessing in Christ. This is the walk we should all do. Remember forgiveness is not absolution, ONLY God gives absolution through his Son Christ Jesus.

It’s amazing how people blame God for evil when they can read clearly in John 10:10 that it is the devil that comes to kill steal and destroy but Jesus came to give life and life more abundantly. When God walked the earth he healed all who came to him and raised the dead. Never blame God for badness or evil. This is all from our enemy the devil who prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights with whom there is no variations James 1:17,18

As hard as it is to understand in the natural relm......All things work together for our good to them that LOVE God and are called according to His purpose. This story proves it. I see the wife as a martyr and the long suffering of the husband and daughter as a previous gift in the sight of God. As Christ layed down His life for His enemy.......so did this family. What a glorious resurection there's will be. I will be lucky to make it by the skin of my teeth.

There are still many Mr Watts today sitting on a dozen different pews all over the place in the church, satan simply hates the truth. Power of forgiveness is what very christian must seek on a daily basis, otherwise the tormentor might make heaven while the tormented goes to hell, frightening indeed. We must carry our cross on a daily basis. Powerful testimony.

It was only in prison that the old man was humbled and found Christ. He was forced to confront the effects of his own sin.

Kick who out? The old man asked for forgiveness, & received it. Dangerous, unrepentant individuals should be asked to leave but not those who've been saved & are on the road to holiness.

If anyone comes across this, my name is John, just coming out of a relationship I absolutely gave my all to, I thought she was the one, I'd NEVER been happier....it seems to be over, I'm crushed, my hearts in a million pieces, I know it wasn't my fault, she's too damaged from past relationships and seems to have untreated mental issues, that doesn't change my hurt and pain. All I wanted was to love her forever....i know it doesn't sound that bad but.....i wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, if God's out there and he cares for me, I need him to show me because my faith....has been destroyed

I'm an atheist that foregiveness is good to a point. It shouldn't be granted unconditionally. Under this belief, the victim could be revictimized if she doesn't forgive some heinous criminal who raped and killed her daughter. This is the problem I have with Chrisitian fundamentalists - they interpret a 2,000 year-old book literally. Still, I encourage believers and unbelievers to read Ms. Alonzo's book because it is well written and is a skillful true crime story that we can all learn from.

I agree with forgiving a person, to let go. However there are consequences for a person's actions. I don't agree with the amount of time he received though. But that is the courts to decide.

Premeditated murder at that! This man clearly ran the town and victims had little recourse. I don’t trust his apology. I’m willing to guess it was to save his reputation so he could go on as before unscathed.

I'm sorry but I have to agree. I don't know their entire situation but if a man is terrorizing my house either he's leaving or I'm leaving. Forgiveness and praying for your enemies is great but they don't take the place of removing yourself from a dangerous situation.

I don't know what to say. I believe in forgiveness after a person repents. I believe in self defense if you can avoid killing another person. I also believe that people who say things they have not experienced or practiced are mere hypocrites. Christians should be more proactive in a world that is ruled by darkness, where the law is slow to give security and justice. Stay safe people. Avoid untimely death just as our saviour Jesus Christ avoided it. Peace to all of you and God bless everyone who's searching for God and answers to their difficult issues. Amen.

@mufc99ok Catholicism is leading many to hell. You can't absolve yourself of responsibility by paying a priest a certain amount of money, nor can that priest save your dead loved ones from an eternity of damnation. The only thing that will keep you out of hell and assure your entrance into Heaven is a personal, abiding relationship with Jesus Christ - He is the ONLY way. You can have your eucharist, priest, virgin mary, et.al., but I cast my lot at the cross of Calvary. Without Jesus, you lose.

Cops should have been involved right away. Ushers preventing him from stepping foot into the church. Pastor should have always carried a gun along with his wife and their doors locked at all times.
We ARE responsible for protecting our families.
It's not spiritual to offer up your loved ones as sheep to the slaughter under the guise of turning the other cheek or Lord knows what other spirtualized excuse for cowardice.

It is amazing to me how this man as allowed to go and be a part of the congregation. It flies in the face of the book of 1st and 2 nd Corinthians. (Paraphrasing)...”If someone who calls themselves a Christian and is in sin, you go to him once, twice with another brother. If he does not repent have him removed from the body.” Preachers have to fear God more than men.
The same is happening all over this country in these buildings that have turned into nothing more than moose lodges. They are not the church, people are.
So happy that this girl was able to forgive, and so happy that the man in prison met Christ. So much can be avoided if we would only do ‘church’ Gods way. Read your bibles and as the Holy Spirit to be your teacher and “Do not be unequally yoked”.

What is it with North Carolina? My 90 year old grandmother has changed churches so many times it is nuts! She won't like a preacher and will take half the congregation with her (they are all family, too, blood relatives) and leave the other half fighting one another, and she has gone so far as to found her own churches. One preacher she got rid of because he had a mustache. No kidding. One preacher she ditched because she didn't like a joke he told when he was having Sunday dinner with us, and it was just a joke about how sometimes when God sends help you don't recognize it as what it is. Basically a God helps those who help themselves kind of stories. I guess when I laughed and Grandma didn't find it funny the preacher was not long for that congregation. My grandmother has NO sense of humor. And I am pretty sure she hates every breath I draw. Too many people are getting caught up in the wars, and not the spreading of the Word.

I'm sorry for everything ma'am, God is your Life and Strength.

    • @stormrising2623
      @stormrising2623 5 ปีที่แล้ว

It's not OK to protect your family, it's a COMMAND!
Forgiveness does not mean allowing sin let alone murder or rape of your loved ones. It means you forgive someone who has done that after the fact.
To sit back and allow it to happen is a horrendous sin.
Christians tend to spiritualize cowardice under the rubric of forgiveness or turning the other cheek
God actually says the cowards will also take their place in the lake of fire.
All that is necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing.
