@@micryt. yeah! Something like that. I would suggest a kind of "karma system" too where if you find another player or npc... you can straight up merc them and take their stuff but it'll make you more vulnerable to demons or certain spirits won't talk to you. And the inverse, helping players/npcs or doing odd jobs for spirits will boost your karma. Just an idea, but I think there's a lot of good ideas here that could easily be turned into game mechanics
Water weirdly appears to be more mystical within the Eternal Ruins, since dewlets and sprites navigate towards these places. Makes me think that water might hold some spiritual energy of sorts... Anyways, the video is great and I am NOT surprised that these creatures are one of your favorites to draw, anything cute and blobby tends to be that to an extent.
Calling it now, all the spirit creatures are just different stages of the same life cycle. dewlet -> sprite -> spirit -> demon, depending on how much spiritual energy they have. They acrew it over the dewlet and sprite stages and spend it later in life, which can be extended with additional energy.
I like that. Imagine someone who swears their life to serve a spirit only for the spirit to become a demon and devour them because of their help. That'd be so sad.
The spirit to demon makes a lot of sense as minor spirits tend to fade. It could be like a choice to still exist (but corrupted by it) or something that happens after their dissapearance
Wandering on her own, looking for water, Dew sees a glimmer of blue in the corner of two walls. Finally, something to drink. She is relatively new here, and still has trouble finding water. She takes out her flask, ready to fill it, when the blue thing moves. She jumps back in surprise, but the thing just sits there. Not water, but some sort of spirit-being that seems to be made of water. Dew's never seen anything like it before. It looks up at her with big eyes. It blinks. It's kinda cute, she thinks. She reaches out to touch it. It feels wet, but isn't. It seems docile, so she picks it up, and takes it. She names it Glimmer. She keeps it in her bag as she wanders. It doesn't do much, but it seems to like it when Dew pets it. Dew talks to it, tells it things, and it burbles in response. Glimmer makes good company for a lonesome wanderer. ... Time passes, and Glimmer grows legs. No longer confined to Dew's bag, she runs around and around. Dew plays games with Glimmer, and they follows each other through the Ruins. They are growing apart. Glimmer's legs are taking her farther and farther away from Dew. One day, they encounter other water-beings. Beings like Glimmer. They are called sprites, Dew knows this now. Glimmer plays with the sprites for hours. The sprites disappear, going where only sprites can follow. Glimmer lingers for a bit, looking up at Dew with those big blues eyes. It's time to go. Dew knows this now, too. They say their goodbyes, that they'll always be friends. Dew knows this to be true. ... Decades pass, and Dew is reaching old age. It is time to find a Spirit Shrine to settle down. She'd love to wander more; she's grown to love these Eternal Ruins, but her bones ache. She knows it will be time to settle soon, so she goes out farther than she's ever been before. One last time. She stumbles upon a Shrine she's never seen before. She asks a wanderer about the Spirit to which the Shrine is dedicated. The Spirit's name is Glimmer. This is an unusual name for a Spirit, Dew thinks. Could it be? Are sprites young spirits? Could it be a trick? She checks the wanderer's hands for Demon marks. His hands are clean, so she asks to meet with the Spirit. Dew is permitted to enter the Spirit's chambers. She is not without an offering. She knows how to interact with Spirits; she's learned what to do. In the corner of her eyes, she spots a glimmer of blue.
I appreciate that the narrator's first encounter came from a place of trepidation and pain but the sprites' goodwill won his trust. As always, beautiful work and incredible how you can make such complex illustrations look like they came together easily.
I like to think that if they get scared they all run into each other and smash together to form a giant version that's big enough to handle the situation.
I wonder, how is information exchanged around the ruins? It seems obvious that campfire stories and passing travelers could spread awareness and rumors, but I wonder if there's another way? If there's writing, maybe there could be lost journals and messages left behind. Or maybe some kind of library/storage system that houses old knowledge, watched over by a benevolent spirit.
*The Eternal Ruins: Lore Entry #4: Sprites and Dewlets:* (Full Video Transcript) _"Little tears, born from sorrow but turned to joy."_ Welcome back to the Eternal Ruins. In this entry I will speak of the delightful Dewlets and Sprites that can be found throughout the ruins. What they are, where to find them, and how to interact with them. "There’s a lot of spiritual energy throughout the ruins. You will have no doubt felt it by now too. This excess energy seems to sometimes take form and appear as Dewlets and Sprites. They do not appear to be quite of this world, seeming to move in and out at their own will. It is sometimes possible to touch them, and the sensation is similar to that of touching water despite leaving no moisture behind. They often appear in particularly spiritual places, close to shrines or certain monunts. They also seem to be attracted to the more overgrown areas, especially areas with water. It is quite common to find them by streams, springs or fountains. I call these smaller blobs of spirit energy Dewlets. These ones seem almost totally unaware of their surroundings, and follow only the basic instincts. They do very little, and you quickly grow used to their presence. Some Keepers spend their days collecting Dewlets in pots to feed their demon masters. This is dull and tiring work, and barely sates the incredible appetites of a demon. However they are much more reliable to find and acquire than a lost wanderer. Sprites seem similar to Dewlets, but much more aware and mobile. From what I have seen, they don’t seem to have any sense of self, but do interact with each other. They do not speak, but seem to listen and react when spoken to. They are somewhat to drawn to wanderers, and I have generally found them to be good natured. Sprites seem to be caught in a constant state of play, undisturbed by the darkness around them. Indeed, their playfulness is catching and one often finds their spirits rising when they are around. Joining in with their games seems to please them a great deal, and can even lead to them showing you hidden pathways to secret places. A wanderer with a cold heart however might find the sprites to be mischievous, hiding their belongings and getting them lost. Sprites have an easier time evading the demons and their Keepers, though they seem to be a more sought after prize than the Dewlets. Even trying to catch them while joining their games can be tricky, and they seem to know more about navigating these ruins than even the most seasoned wanderer. I fondly remember my first encounter with Sprites. It was shortly after my awakening, and I stumbled through the ancient windy passages in dire need of water and food. They appeared out of thin air before me, watching me and dancing around me. In truth, I mistook their playfulness for mockery and despaired all the more. I felt as though they were taunting me with their joy, dragging me along to my doom. But after following them through many winding, overgrown passages, we arrived at a small stream. I lapped up the water and then noticed that the trees were abundant with fruit. They saved my life and I have trusted them ever since." That’s all for this episode on Dewlets and Sprites. These strange little guys first wandered into my sketches a few years ago, and they are one my favourite things to draw. I hope you all like them as much as I do.
I caught up with your worldbuilding project last week and I gotta say, I love what I've seen so far. The feeling of a seemingly abandoned world, like Shadow of the Colossus together with the mixture of cute, beautiful and terrifying, aesthetics of your artstyle really bring that sense of adventure, of exploring the unknown to the forefront of your mind. Keep up the great work, I'm already looking forward to the next Eternal Ruins video!
Its such a good addon to your growing world of the ruins. They reminds me of soot beeings and the forest spirits from Studio Ghibli's movies and the ghostly beeings from Moomin. So cute and cosy and just right 🥰
😭💕 oh they're so preciousssss....... big Chao and Chaos from Sonic Adventure vibes, childlike beings with a connection to water and hidden depths... I'm imagining a wanderer who's settled down in an area rich in sprites and dewlets, guarding a fountain. Pointing a weapon at another, demanding they bare their hands before they're allowed to approach any further. And yet at the same time I'm imagining a particularly stealthy wanderer, perhaps aided by an artifact, never being seen directly by a demon's keeper but leaving them food in the midst of the drudgery of dewlet collection. Kindness to those trapped in servitude, while acknowledging the threat they pose. I always look forward to your videos, they're a breath of fresh air and inspiring, too. Your world feels like a grand painting I could reach out and walk into. It's beautiful.
Such adorable little guys! I am currently a little obsessed with Chao from Sonic Adventure games, so not going to lie, their drop-shaped head, big eyes and blue colour reminded me of cute little chao, which, honestly, makes me love them even more! 😊❤ Its always nice to have some cute, friendly, little guys in an otherwise kind of dark world
This whole channel has inspired me a bit to do more of my own world building in a style similar to this. Only I think I'm going to actually record it in a physical pocket-sized journal like which would be carried by a traveler in the strange world he finds himself in. I've actually made a couple pocket journals as DIY projects. I just need some blank copy paper to make one, and am probably going to dye it with coffee to give it that tattered feel and make it look old.
I remember seeing this channel recommended to me right at the beginning, and I shared it with a friend who I thought would enjoy following it. This is the first follow up video I’ve watched since, and it warms my heart to see how many people are now keeping up and engaging with it. What a dream come true for an artist to be able to share one of their inner worlds with so many.
Ok I don't have much to say other than "oh my gosh I love the lil critters and your art and storytelling is some of the most vibey I've ever seen" But I still wanted to comment, just to sate the algorithm a bit :D
My first thought is that the spites are fully "grown" dewlets. They are "born" or they coalesce from the damp misty corners of the ruins, and over time gather more spirit energy and become the spites.
Your work is always an inspiration to me. I haven't felt creative recently, but your world is so intriguing and mystical that it gets me excited about ideas.

the Ghibli vibes are immaculate
Yes I was thinking they’re so reminiscent of the kodama from princess mononoke

If this world was turned into a video game... I would buy it in a heartbeat.
It seems like it would be a good chill roguelike.

Ditto.
Me too
i would give too many of my internal organs to be a part of the team that develops it
I theorize that dewlets and sprites are perhaps larval stages or evolutionary precursors to spirits or demons.
Imagine befriending a little sprite by playing with it, and then it turns into a spirit after a few years
Water weirdly appears to be more mystical within the Eternal Ruins, since dewlets and sprites navigate towards these places. Makes me think that water might hold some spiritual energy of sorts...
Anyways, the video is great and I am NOT surprised that these creatures are one of your favorites to draw, anything cute and blobby tends to be that to an extent.
Well, water is like one of the essential things all living things require (except for spirits and demons) so it must be somehow important

The spirit to demon makes a lot of sense as minor spirits tend to fade. It could be like a choice to still exist (but corrupted by it) or something that happens after their dissapearance
And/or demons and spirits eventually die somehow and disperse into dewlets, closing the cycle!
I don't think spirits can be formed, and I don't think this should be so linear. Still a good thought

Heehee, I knew you’d like this series friend. Didn’t take me long to find you 😊
I like the narration from the adventurers point of view, with limited understanding and only able to explain what he saw and experienced himself.
I like to think that if they get scared they all run into each other and smash together to form a giant version that's big enough to handle the situation.
We should all adopt some sprites and dewlets ❤

My honest reaction (I haven't seen the vid yet):
Edit: I have now, still my honest reaction:

I really love the lore over a painting process. Seeing how you take 3D scenes as a base and give it so much texture and life is inspiring

What a beautiful piece! And a lovely video, as always. This channel is such a respite from most media, whisking me away to forgotten places.
Thanks, that's great to hear. I want these videos to be a relaxing little break from everyday life.
You know you've got a good fantasy setting when you add cute little creatures to the lore.
Lets go! new eternal ruins vid as soon as I woke up

i am so behind this project, its wonderful!
i've been following it since the first video for each new installment I've dropped whatever other video I was watching haha
I think you have a great great idea going man. Keep it like this, open to imagination, minimal, mysterious.
This lore is really good! The sprites are so cute :)
New lore unlocked, keep up the good work
a balm to the soul of other worldbuilders when you get stuck or the going seems slow and tedious. 😊

Your Chanel has grown exponentially and that makes me so happy! I lover ur content
Your art is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
I'm always happy to see another Eternal Ruins video
This is epiic! Its an inspiration for my own work. Glad I followed you on insta few months ago!
Please write a saga of at least 5 books using this world. I would read it in a heartbeat.
The Eternal Ruins already has a mascot, it seems~
I eagerly await the inevitable Dewlet plushies!
you know how to make 2d characters on 3d backgrounds very well, and that is a precious skill. very good video
Never clicked a video so fast - and now i need a dewlet plushie
Oh these little guys are awesome!
I love your art so much!! The blend of 2d and 3d is beautiful and the world is just lovely! This is my first video but I’m already subbed! 🫀🫀🫀
Ok I don't have much to say other than "oh my gosh I love the lil critters and your art and storytelling is some of the most vibey I've ever seen" But I still wanted to comment, just to sate the algorithm a bit :D
This needs to be a game one day
Please, at least make some novels out of the ruins.. i love how it has that mysterious made in abyss vibe, just more on the spiritual side.
My first thought is that the spites are fully "grown" dewlets. They are "born" or they coalesce from the damp misty corners of the ruins, and over time gather more spirit energy and become the spites.
Not a single unhappy thought behind those eyes. They're perfect
This channel is going to get huge and its very deserved. I love the creators ideas and art.
god damn it, he's done it again, another banger
Someone needs to adapt this into a game
Your work is always an inspiration to me. I haven't felt creative recently, but your world is so intriguing and mystical that it gets me excited about ideas.
These episodes just fill me with inexplicable happiness, idk why I love these chill stories with incredible artwork so much..

Each time I listen to one of your videos, I can't help but to daydream of this turning into a video game.
I really want to experience your world, I want to live in it.
I am loving everything you have put so far.
Good luck !
These kinds of lil guys is what I love in fantasy. When a fantasy has these little guys i'm sold immediately.
Another delightful video to inspire the day. Thanks Sam, best of luck with your project.
Reminds me of the spirits from Princess Mononoke
The sense of wonder your work inspires is a continual delight. I eagerly await new installments and plan to support this project when I can.
I take it the Dewlets and Sprites are the most minor expression of magic in the Ruins.
Their water drop like appearance makes think they are something like a magical equivalent of condensation, or morning dew.
Sprites let me know when it is safe to let go of my scutum, and when it is time to play, rest and unwind. Always a joy to find them.
Love these little guys. Reminds me of the Wara Wara from The Boy and the Heron.
I must say , I love your world building it's quite inspirational I can tell the love you put into it.
i love that you're sharing such a beautiful creation in such an intimate way
I wasn't expecting a video today but it's quite a pleasant suprise 😊
I now wait for these videos each week. The dudelets are adorable.
This lore is so intruguing, I'd like to apply it to an rpg system of my creation. Keep on doing a great job :D
I still can't get over how GOOD this is x

Oooh these little guys are just delightful!
Every good universe needs some little guys ☺️
this series brings me so much joy, your artstyle and your voice and the Lore(TM) are so pleasant :)
Also love the work, your art and imagination is amazing thank you for sharing
Dewlets and Sprites are the true Chaotic good of the Eternal Ruins
Just wondering, how would you feel about fanfiction and short stories based on your world?
noice and I liked the fact that the voice in this video was a little lighter than usual.
Sprites are always a welcome sight!
They're not a guarantee, those are few and far between among the ruins, but you're safer than you think if sprites have come to play.
eeeeee i love them and this entire channel and idea! well done i hope you can make this full time you deserve it!
I tried to resist saying it but these are PERFECTLY MARKETABLE PLUSHY SHAPE!. i need one to throw around a kick. (i wouldnt actually do that, they are precious)

They're adorable! Love their lore as well
i've loved your art for so long, i love the new videos can't wait to see more :0
How delightful! Thank you for sharing!
Another awesome video! Your stories inspire me to work on my own projects too. Thanks a lot friend!
I love your way of telling this stories. Always a pleasure listening to you 💚
I look forward to these videos so much.
I love these little guys already
the way you say water is so interesting. i've never heard it like that before
I really hope you plan to do a physical book of eternal ruins someday, It would be beautiful to have all this incredible art and lore in one single printed piece, like to have a portal to another world on your bookshelf
