As someone who lives in a poor country in North Africa I want to thank NickKristof for being one of the few people in America that think about us poor countries. I also want to thank oil companies, Diamond cartels and fishing companies for their continued support of Africa. Wish you were as progressive Atrioc
speedcuber here, about the kid that learned full 1 look last layer (3915 algorithms) - it's very real and it's one of those things that sound crazy if you're not involved with the community - but you only realize how absolutely fucking batshit insane it is if you are involved with it. He started around a year ago and posted videos with his progress to his channel (EDMARTER on youtube).
For context, there's another rubik's cube-like puzzle called a megaminx - for which one of the last layer steps has 151 cases. I'm one of ~50-60 people in the world that knows all 151 cases, and it took me 4 years (2018-22) to learn, because it's really easy to get busy with other things in life, or just get discouraged, or just plain get bored of learning algs. Learning 144 cases a day, drilling them for a few days, and then repeating that for an entire year takes an absolutely insane amount of dedication.

The 1LLL achievement is fucking insane. As a speedcuber, the idea of learning all those algs is insane, much less when you consider he learned 144 a week. A couple years of practice on recognition and look ahead can lead to some insane times assuming the right mechanical skill is there. Truly insane.
Not just learning them all, but being able to remember them all without forget any of them is also insane I’d assume…. Isn’t there thousands of them?

@@1davey29shows yeah that’s wild…. You know what’s even crazier, the average Chinese citizen knows about 8000 characters in mandarin, so about double the algorithm, and all in all, there’s over 50,000 characters, with 20,000 that are actively used currently.
Some people are just insane human beings.
And I’m not comparing the algorithms difficulty to mandarin, just using mandarin to show how some people can remember so much shit, especially ones needed for daily use.
I wish I had the brain capacity to do things like that, and I’m quite smart with certain things, but other things just seem wildly impressive….

Grew up in Jacksonville, NC my whole life which is home to Camp Lejuene (biggest US amphibious base in the world) and it is an absolute fact that young marines spent thousands on their vehicles lmao which I can't really blame them as theres not much they can spend their expendable income on. But still love that anybody thats lived near a base can understand the joke

11:20 I would do this with my crush from middle school (this is after we had both graduated from high school and were now young adults). We would poke each other back and forth, sometimes getting into a poking match rapidly poking back and forth and seeing who would be the first to stop. We never actually spoke much at all. At one point I had confessed to her that I had a crush on her back then, and she basically replied with "oh cool, glad you expressed your feelings" and we never spoke again.
She's married to a rich middle aged man now that is probably like 20 years older than her.
Edit: remembering about this made look her up on facebook to see how she's doing now. They might have gotten divorced cause all of their pictures of them together are gone.

The cubing thing is weird because it isn't even faster... It's so much effort to make 0 time save. You can't practice that many algorithms and get them down faster than just breaking it into two steps

I don't think full 1LLL is the future by any means, similar to how most top cubers don't learn sune/antisune ZBLLs today - but I think learning full 1LLL for the bad OLL algs will become a common thing in a few years
The sweatshop stuff is a lot more nuanced than sweatshops being completely good or bad.

Questioning the all volounteer force, meaning considering implementing conscription like in many european countries. Conscription is objectively better than enlistment, since you don't have to commit several years to the military, and just get the basic experience and training to be ready in case of war.

To be fair to Nich Kristoff he has a point, a lot of countries with sweatshops do not have any welfare from the state. If you stop buying stuff from sweatshops the rich owners can close them down and do something else, but the people who work in them lose their jobs and starve...
I dont think people want the jobs to not exist, they want the jobs to not be horribly exploitative and awful.
@@EbonMaster but that isn't an option, we can only buy or not buy. If we don't buy and object to the conditions people lose jobs. In reality there isn't really a solution to this.
They are naive and are probably actively making people's lives worse in their own pursuit of moral grandstanding, social justice, hoghhorsery, etc.
