hey, tobias! thank you for this review. i liked how you focused on the details. this is really helpful! :)
Great review Tobias, just ordered mine off Amazon. My order was I think the older version of the packaging cause it’s not horizontal and without the pop filter, but no worries. Straight to the point, beautiful. Keep up the good work. Wish you good luck on your youtube channel!
It's been about 6 years that I've used my HyperX Cloud 2 with its mic, and I believe this is a suitable change. Awesome video
Man, I really needed the review for this microphone
@@TobiasHolenstein is this compatible with android if I own a adapter? I'm about to buy it and need a quick response looking at Q&A from the web I think it does
@@uishaggy8552 I haven't tried it with an android, but I have tried it with my iPhone and it works using an OTG adapter
@@TobiasHolenstein I bought it and okay I will try it with an android adapter and let you know if it works, I get the mic on Thursday and Adapter on Friday
i'm planning to buy this microphone but i wanted to look up a review first. your video helped a lot! thank you!
Thank you for the review, just ordered it now, lets see !
I've been looking for a mic since my headset mic hasn't been up to par, but this was very helpful! Great video!
Great review as always! You should do a video of your TH-cam studio setup, what mic you go for in which instant and so on. Love you reviews althow I'm not in to mics...
Thanks man! Yeah thats a good idea. I think I will do that one of these days
thank you so much for your review man, i literally bought the mic after watching your review, i was having doubts about its price, but you confirmed it is decent, thank you again
Your video helped push me to click the purchase button. :D
Awesome review! I can't wait for mine to arrive.
I'm glad I could help! I'm sure you will love the mic :)
and thank you!
Thank you Tobias, I immediately placed my order after your review. You've saved me a lot of time and money.
i was thinking on buying this. I was looking for a review and this helped me out so much!
I'm glad I found your video! Very complete review 👍🏻
I think I'm going to buy it. It sounds very clear 😱
Hey great review! I'm about to start a new semester zoom teaching and was I was planning to buy the Maono AU-PM421T. Then I saw your awesome review. The only difference I can see in the specs is the mute button. Have you compared the Maono AU-PM461TR with the 421 or do you know what the difference is? The price difference is quite a bit.
I actually bought this exact mic yesterday and it arrives tomorrow. This is my first review I've watched about it and I'm surprised that it sounds so good - for the price! I bought it for work, not streaming/gaming so it didn't matter if it sounded professional or not but wow. I'm surprised how good it is :)
i was going to buy the maono au a03 kit..but i saw your reviews on the pm 461tr..and now i'm freaking excited for my new mic!
Hi Tobias! Thanks for the review. I bought mine recently and I tried to connect it to my phone using an adapter to record instruments. But then the audio seems to be wonky like the pitch shifts/bends in the recording. Any idea what is wrong? Thank you!
Hello, I love your videos! It was really helpful. I just bought this mic because of your good reviews. I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question but it's my first time using a mic and i just wanna ask if two mics will work on one laptop?
The way you review it is what I’m looking for to watch now, because I don’t know whether the sound will be good enough in 20-30cm of distance
Thanks for this review. It was awesome!!
Tobias, you were correct about USB C OTG working. My final issue is, when I plug in the mic using the OTG, the headphones completely stopped working. I've tried blue tooth buds, wired headset and wired headset plugged into a splitter. This issue occurs with everything ranging from Skype to Open Camera. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Good vid - thank you.
I was recently given this exact mic, and used it for the first time a couple of nights ago. I had the same experience as you; I was pretty surprised by the performance of this thing. It's really quite good - and certainly all that I need.
That's great! I'm glad that the microphone is working out for you 🙂
Thank you for your thorough review! I just bought this and I can’t wait to test it later and use it for my stream.
SassyLissy, how did you end up liking this? I’m looking for an entry level streaming mic as well!
@@travispandos7179 It worked out well! If you want you could check out my streams on FB, just search AsianReese. I love the crisp and how surround it is.
I ordered this mic a few days ago.. It's still in-transit and will be here after a day or 2... I was starting to have my doubts with it but you helped me see that I made the right purchase. Thanks
Thank you so much for this review man! You made me buy my first usb condenser mic
Hi Emmanuel! You're welcome! I'm glad I could help. Enjoy your new mic! 🙂
I can't wait to get my hands on this mic! (with Krisp). Thanks Tobias!
Awesome review man!! 👌👌
I just used your Amazon link to purchase this microphone plus a shock mount that will hopefully be compatible with it. Thanks for the detailed review and keep up the great work!
Thanks so much Rafael, I appreciate it! Enjoy your new microphone! 🙌
@@TobiasHolenstein You're welcome and so far I'm loving it. Combined with VOICEMEETER BANANA and OBS Reaper plugins, it sounds even better. Any chance of you doing a Maono PM461TR vs MAONO AU-PM421 video?
Yo, thank you so much, once I get the chance to, imma buy this. Yet again, tysm!
Thank you buddy , this is really a great value for money mic .
Thank you so much for the explanation. I wanted to buy this microphone 🎤 🎤 and I was really curious to know what the sound quality was that you showed me. That is perfect. Best wishes.
Hey! Excellent detailed review! Thank you!
I have a somewhat unusual task. I need to record 10-80 kHz ultrasound (animal voice), and the analog-to-digital converter of this MAONO PM461TR microphone should be up to the task. Could you make a test recording of 192 kHz / 24 bit? Just shake a bunch of iron door keys so that they jingle in front of the microphone, and put the resulting wav file somewhere without processing.
Hey there great video, wanna ask if it has a side tone feature or is there anything that could add side tone on it
Would you reccomend this mic over the Maono Au-A04 you reviewed before? Thanks, man. Enjoyed the review btw
That's a tough one. Personally I think I would probably go with the Maono Au-A04 mostly because it comes with both the tripod stand and the arm stand, but if I was on a tighter budget then yeah I would go for the Maono AU-PM461TR. In my opinion the Au-A04 sounds a little warmer, but very very clean, and the AU-PM461TR sounds a little more sensitive in the higher frequencies, which is fine too. It's just personal preference. I hope that helps! and thank you for watching 🙂
Thanks for the amazing review, you made me switch from a more expensive choice and saved me some money :D One question tho: did you do some postprocessing on the audio from the Maono mic or in the video we simply hear 'pure', unprocessed sound? I'm just wondering because it sounds super cool and loud in your review but I've seen some others where it doesn't sound this good..
You're welcome! I'm glad I could help 🙂and no I did not do any processing in post, the audio is the raw audio from the microphone
@@TobiasHolenstein Ok, thanks for the info, appreciate it :) So what do you think could cause this difference in quality? The OS..? I kinda have doubts since it's USB and doesn't use the built-in sound card..
@@bellum1410 No problem! I'm not really sure why someone else's isn't sounding the same as mine. Could you send me the link to the video you saw where it sounds different? I'd like to see what exactly they have going on that could be causing the problem
@@TobiasHolenstein Well, I can send you a video but there is no, well, video, just a guy talking in Polish for 30s about the specification of the mic:
th-cam.com/video/XUw8pHvAlLM/w-d-xo.html
I think this is the worst one I found.
There is also this one:
th-cam.com/video/WwDhKfRY8zA/w-d-xo.html
where the guy uses this mic in like the half of the video, then uses a couple different ones only to come back to the Maono one and it sounds.. Really weird, it's around the 6:30min.
And last but not least:
th-cam.com/video/Jc77A3IeuYE/w-d-xo.html
I'm not sure what I don't like about this one, it just sounds.. differently for me in comparison to what you've shown in your video. Thanks for your time! :)
@@bellum1410 Ok cool, so in the first one, personally, I think it sounded pretty similar to mine. I think he might have just been a little further away from the mic or something.
Then in the second video it looks like he is using the Maono mic at around 2:38 and it sounds good, then at 6:30 where you pointed out, I agree it does sound weird, but the weird thing is, is that I almost feel like he might have accidentally recorded with a different mic or something, because it kind of sounds like he recorded it with a stereo mic, like his voice isn't completely mono. So I have a feeling that it isn't actually the Maono mic at 6:30. Maybe he mixed up his audio files or something.
In the last video I think the issue is that he kind of had the mic off to the left so he wasn't speaking straight at it, but then at around 3:30 in the video he is testing it out while playing a game and he has it positioned better and up on a stand and I think it sounds a lot better at that part.
So I think in the end, it just kind of has to do with how you position the mic and how far away you are from it. I hope that helps!
i hope this isnt hate but I like how when u switch back to the camera audio it seems like the microphone is 10000% better lol great review bro im def checking this mic out
Hello? I bought this product after watching your review video. Can you know the volume setting value of your windows and the setting value of OBS?
I am looking into buying this microphone (Maono Desktop Podcasting Microphone Kit as it is listed on the webshop) and I am really impressed with the quality of it!
I just bought the mic. Thanks for the review. I feel confident to buy this after you said sorry for the sound of your fish tank. I hear nothing just your voice. Lol so this is actually a good quality mic within the budget
Awesome! You're welcome 🙂 I'm glad you couldn't hear the fish tanks haha. Enjoy your new mic! I think it's great for the price!
Oooh man, i Just bought this microphone today and it's gonna Come tomorrow and i am So excited :D
sir just want to. if you using that mic on livestream and if you plug the headphone on computer can you monitor your voice directly to the headset.. i mean you can hear rght away your voice while you are live. thank you
Since it picks up your fish tank, does it pick up sounds that are further away? Are you able to turn the gain down and speak closer to it so that it won't pick up other sounds? Is it possible to use this microphone with desktop speakers?
what is your whole streaming setup? are you running osb? I'm a music guy who is trying to get a decent setup for some pods I've been invited to do. I don't want to deal with my interface and trying to treat the room. thought? It doesn't seem noisy at all for a condenser.
Nice review! Would you recommend this for recording music/vocals?
Hi there tobias, I'm new to this, is there a difference between au-pm461tr and au-pm461s? Is it just the set or the sound output is also different?
bought one after this vid, to replace my off the shelf mic, time to rock it (once i get home)
Good review thanks! Even gave you a sub!
Great video! Because of you, I've decided to buy this. Although you mentioned that you haven't done any audio post-processing, which software do you usually use in case you intend to? I'm getting started with TH-cam, and I wanted to know which audio editor you use or recommend. Audacity, OBS, etc.?
Thank you! Enjoy your new mic. I record into Logic Pro, but for basic stuff Audacity is probably ok. If you have an Apple computer, it should have GarageBand on it, which is pretty good. I've downloaded OBS, but I haven't really used it yet, but that would probably also be ok.
@@TobiasHolenstein I will send you a link to my new video sometime, and you can compare it with one of my old ones. It would be interesting to see the stark difference, considering that my first mic was worth $8😂
Hi Tobias! Will the quality still be good if I connect this mic straight to my laptop which has a poor internal sound card?
Can we hear the backing track using headphones while recording covers?
Hello! I just bought one! Thank you so much for doing this video. But what should I do in order to hear my voice through the headphones with the mic?? I hope you can answer my question. Thank you in advance!
Hi Thea, what you will need to do is plug your headphones into your computer and then in whatever software you are using you record, you need to enable software monitoring. Hope that helps! If you have any other questions or need more help feel free to let me know!
I have a question. Since this mic doesn't have a direct monitoring capability, are there concerns when you're listening to yourself through your laptop? Is there a split sec delay or change of output sound? Still learning here. Thanks Tobias!
Yeah there is a very slight delay (compared to zero latency monitoring), but it's not really noticeable. Maybe just by a few milliseconds or something.
Maono DGM20 or this mic. which one will be better in sound and overall?
Hi. Besides using this for streaming, can it be used with Word for speech to text?
Sorry, I have a question about could I connect this mic to my phone via OTG?
Did you plugged it in straight to your PC or did you use it woth an audio interface? Does it need a software? Thanks in advance.
Is this compatible to Smartphones ? Using an otg cable.
I have the same mic as you have and I don't think I have the same experience as you do. My mic sounds quiet at around 25% at the same distance as in your video. Is their a way for me to fix that issue. Btw if it helps, i am plugging the mic directly into my laptop port.
Hey thanks for the review Tobias, think im gonna pick this one up for my first mic.
what is your recommended gain knob position for this microphone? planning to use for discord.
Would also appreciate to hear your insights with what input volume setting on discord for best quality of audio
I don't personally have experience with discord, I'll have to try it out one of these days, but I would say as long as you turn the knob up enough so your voice can be heard, that should be fine. Just make sure your voice isn't clipping and you should be good.
I'm not sure if higher gain picks up background noise/hiss? Krisp/RTX Voice in Discord might work very well against that. So you should try playing around with how far you are and how much you want. You might need to increase your gain. I'm just guessing, as I'm thinking about getting this mic for myself.
Consider using voicemeter banana with VSTs if you have enough CPU cycles to spare.
Hyperx solocast or Manono pm461TR? which you think?
its sounds so clean im getting this as a upgrade from tonor tc 777
Awesome, I think I'm going to do that pm461tr vs tc777 next monday. I'm curious to see the difference
Thanks bro I'm buying it in a few hours
is it in the condenser itself?
How does it compare it to the au a04tr maono? It's the same price in my country
Looking for an affordable condenser microphone and I think I found it! Thank you! :)
does it mute when the gain knob is all the way down?
Is it good for podcasting and TH-cam videos? And do I still need a soundcard for this? Anyways, I already made a subb on your channel. Thanks for the info!
Hi Irene, thank you so much for the sub! I think it would be a great mic for podcasting and TH-cam videos. All around I think it's a great budget mic 🙂
Does this mic works with IPhone? I need a mic to use in live Facebook videos. Thanks in advance?
thanks for the review! I just bought one but my mic volume is kinda low even though i put the gain knob on 100 and it doesn't sound that good. any ideas?
Hi sorry to hear that! Have you checked what the input gain on your computer is set to? Maybe it is set kind of low
looove the sound of this mic so much, it's so warm and deep. Love it. it's great for documentaries for me
