Will my '87 Chrysler Fifth Avenue Pass Smog?

My 1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue has been sitting unused for 6 months. I had trouble getting the thing to pass the emissions test, so I've called in the help of my 24 Hours of LeMons teammates Charles and Guillaume Etienne to see if they can help get it to pass. Watch and find out if my fleet of terrible broken cars gets any less terrible!

I know I'm late to the party, but it's always a good start to the day when you see Ethan has uploaded! This car brings back so many memories of my buddy Shawn and his first car, a black with red quilted plush Fifth Ave! We used to tool all around Western NY in that thing. I'm almost tempted to fly out to Cali and snag this from you and drive it back and surprise him with it... Now... will the wife let that one fly. LOL. Awesome video buddy.

Before I moved to England I had an exact blue Fifth Avenue, with blue velour interior. I used it to run taxi in New York, it was bulletproof and so many stories. If the import wasn’t ridiculous in the UK 🇬🇧 I would buy that one 👍🏿👍🏿

Good luck with the Pontiac! If you haven't yet take a look at the w-body forums. I'm sure the guys there would be happy to help you with getting your turbo Grand Prix fixed. They've helped me with my Grand Prix several times and know almost everything there is to know about these cars.
Thanks!! Yeah I've been poking around the W Body forums a bit. I think my plan is to ditch the ABS entirely. I found another guy that swapped it out with components from a Chevy Astro, I think I might do the exact same thing. :)
You're supposed to use seafoam while you have the OLD plugs in the car. Once you put the new plugs in the car, and then use seafoam, you can cause splash fouling on the spark plugs!

I'm looking into fixing up an 88 Dodge Diplomat. The police version of that car but it would be cool to have that beautiful golden barge. In Maryland cars of that age don't need to pass emissions but shipping that thing all the way across the country would cost more than that thing is worth
Police Diplomats are sweet! I think my Fifth Avenue might be a good candidate for someone outside of California. No rust whatsoever! I would think a car could be shipped across the US for maybe ~$800?

I used to frequent some charity car auctions. Those Chryslers would get donated all the time with low miles after they wouldn’t pass smog. Many were bought by Mexican dealers and taken south of the border where they didn’t have emissions testing.
Mike Frankovich there are quite a few places now that have emission testing in Mexico. Not where I am of course, but but in the big cities and they are strict. In the capital, Mexico City, if you have a car older than, I think, 3 years old, you can only drive it 6 days out of the week, and they enforce that like crazy.

Whoa!! Haven't seen a Corsica hatchback in ages. I have to imagine it's one of the last ones left. Is it the 4 or 6 cylinder?
Hello Road / Ethan Tufts yep! It’s a 6 cylinder. It has the 3.1 V6, AC blows cold, heat works, runs and drives great, has a small exhaust leak but for $400 it was more than worth it. Especially for such an obscure, rare vehicle. I have pictures up on my Instagram if you have IG. I’m @inthelate80s

Now Ethan, are you going to register the car to you, or are you going to pass the smog along to the next buyer?
Registered to me so I can finally drive it legally! Hope to sell it within the 90 days so the smog can be transferred.
@@HelloRoad Ethan, I think yo need to check the rules. When I lived there the smog could only be used once, even if it was current at the time of sale. If you use it to register the car to yourself, I think you will need to get a new one for the sale. That is why I asked.
