When Forest came up in the 70s. Everybody wrote them off, while it realistically took around 5yrs to tail off. Only to re ignite in the late 80s & early 90s. 2 European cups, Charity shield, 6 league cup finals Simod & Zenith finals along with a F A. Cup final & 3 semis. Loads of top 6 finishes covering Cloughie’s reign. While the Prem is much tougher, there’s no reason Forest can’t keep building towards being a top 6 club a few years from now, & maybe win the odd trophy. It’s a magic club where anything is possible.
Yep, not much success before the 70s besides a couple of FA cups. In fact their rise almost coincided with City's decline starting in the late 70s(if only City would have won that title race with Liverpool in 1977, that they lost by a point). Funnily enough, they finished level with City(and Wolves) on 9 major honours before they truly tailed off. Top 10 levels of success in all of english football until Chelsea and City rose up(currently joint 11th with Wolves). Their history at the top might not go as far back or be as long lived as some other traditional top 10 clubs but if you are back to back champions of Europe(only Liverpool have matched that), and top 10 most successful or there abouts, nobody can knock that.
@@chrismeakin7830 Granted but not sure that counts as the start of being in the mix with top clubs. QPR lost out by a point to Liverpool in 1976 too I've just noticed while checking I had the season City missed out right. @@tonys6237 "worst" is slightly strong. I don't think we've ever had a "worst period". The League One days weren't great but then we're not immune to skirmishes with the third tier in our history. Pleased to hear some positive news about Forest in the media. Lots of negative and uninformed comment about our signings last year and like most clubs outside the top 6 dont get a fair share of discussion or attention in the media.
the comments that pundits made about your questionable signings were correct though. So much money wasted on duplicates. You signed about 6 fullbacks. It felt like you bought a premier league 11 but at the same time bought an 11 as though you were preparing for the championship in players like Toffolo, obrien, hwang, Williams, biancone, Richards, hennessey. That whole duplicate player policy is happening again this season too. Buys turner then a few weeks later brings in Vlachodimos. Signs left back Aina, then brings in Tavares. You already have enough right wing backs, Aurier is peforming very well but then Montiel is signed. Christ you must have about 15 wing backs in total. Really odd transfer activity and it's a good way to blow your way through ffp and end up in an Everton situation
You literally gave us the reason for the transfer activity last summer 😂😂😂😂 it was to build a completely new squad as we only realistically had 5 players that were premier league ready after promotion but to also have championship players ready if we were relegated. And now this summer the plan was to improve the starting 11 and the players who can change the game from the bench ie Elanga, Origi etc. and around 24 players have left since the end of last season ie sold, loaned, gone back to their parent clubs etc so 13 brought in gives Cooper a more manageable squad. There are 25 in the squad + 5 aged 21 or under. And yes 2 players for every position, pretty simple plan for a mid table Prem club. The mistakes Forest made last season were in the Jan window - Jonjo Shelvey, Chris Wood and Andre Ayew but at least it stopped other teams getting Ayew and Wood 😂 They did do good things in Jan though with Danillo, Felipe and Navas 🤙🏻 So 50/50 transfer success isn’t too bad 😉
@WOOOPdoctorFROGhere If you go back all the way to when we got promoted from the Championship, we lost 36 players. So we had to sign a whole new squad, not to mention back-ups as well. We signed 23 players in that season. I agree when you say that some money was wasted (for example Lingard and his wages, Chris Wood, André Ayew and definitely Jon Jo Shelvey) but the players you brought up all have shown that they can provide something in the Premier League, even if it isn’t every match. I honestly have no clue what you are on about with our so called “Duplicate Policy”. Toffolo came in as a “Buy one get one free” from the O’brien deal, and both of them have showed their quality at times. Williams was a young promising back-up who has also impressed when played in a three/five back. Hennessy was also brought in as a back-up and he has shown that he make some saves in the later matches when he played. I’m not sure why we signed Biancone but he is can play in multiple different positions. Anyway, last season he tore his ACL in training and missed the season so we still don’t know how good he is 😂.Hwang was brought in to then be loaned out to Olympiacos because Olympiacos were unable to buy him for the rules in the Greek League. Richards was brought in to be our first choice as he impressed us when he was at Bayern, but he has been unlucky as he broke his leg and missed the entire season. We originally bought Turner as a back-up/competitor with Dean Henderson, who we were gonna buy, but he went to Crystal Palace. Instead, we then bought Vlachodimos who will be competing with Turner in Henderson’s place. Ola Aina was brought in as a utility player and because we were having a little bit of a left-back crisis. We then brought Tavares in as Aina was the only left-back who wasn’t having any issues and he is right footed. We signed Montiel because there were rumours of Serge going to Qatar/Saudi as well as preparing for another injury crisis like we had last year.
@@RobinHood-us7sg firstly its a complete myth that you only had 5 players. For a start you loaned out about a squads worth of players. It'd be like if Luton had loaned out all of their players and released a few more this summer and then them saying "we didn't have any players" secondly, this isn't the way you "build a squad". You don't bring in a player expecting to be first choice (or at least in with a chance of getting games) then a week later sign another player in the exact same position, then another week bring in one or two more players in the same position again. That just guarantees you'll piss off that first signing as he's now third or fourth choice. Imagine how Turner feels when he gets dropped despite making no mistakes. Obrien and Toffolo will be happy with the big payrise they got joining forest but they'll be pissed that their careers have been completely derailed by forest signing them only to demote them to very expensive, unnecessary backups. As I've said, this is just an FFP problem waiting to happen. Everton in the making. Electing to lose out of shirt sponsorhip last season was also an absolutely batshit decision which will impact FFP down the line. The only conceivable way out of this is if next season Marinakis cooks the books and moves some players to olympiakos for above their market value, so he can inflate forests profits on the balance sheet.
@@WOOOPdoctorFROGhere I commented 5 premier league ready players ie Brennan, Worrall, Yates, McKenna, Cook. Colback & Surridge were squad players in the Champ so questionable prior to start of Prem. Soon realised when Prem started that Surridge, Cook & Colback weren’t good enough and McKenna would be a squad player at best 👍🏻 players like Cafu, Mighten and Lyle Taylor weren’t even in the Championship matchday squad for a lot of the season they got promoted. I’ll try to reply to all your points but I can tell you’re just a troll bitter at Forest’s relative success 👍🏻 Omar Richards was brought in as 1st choice LWB and got injured early in pre-season training so was out until Jan and then came back and picked up more injuries so was out for the whole season, Toff was brought in as 2nd choice which is normal ie 2 players for every position, therefore Forest brought in Lodi on loan as 1st choice and proved his worth. Biancone was brought in as 2nd choice RWB behind Neco but same as Omar Richards he got injured in pre-season and missed the whole of the season so Serge Aurier (highly experienced premier league and Ivory Coast captain) was brought in on a 1 year contract and became 1st choice - amazing deal which you should congratulate 😉 then signed him on another 1 year contract. There is talk of Saudi Arabia being interested in Aurier so makes sense to bring in Montiel on loan - Argentina international and World Cup winner! This summer Richards was loaned to Olympiacos to gain a full season of match fitness so he can return next season. Toff has a looming ban over his head due to the gambling issue so Forest can’t rely on him. They’ve brought in Taveres and Aina. Taveres is on loan and Aina is on a 1 year contract. No massive financial burdens as far as I can see 👍🏻 Turner was brought in as competition for Henderson but Forest couldn’t agree to Henderson £15m deal so got the Greek international with Champ League experience for half the price another good piece of business and 2 players competing for 1 position. Comparing Forest to Everton 😂 please look at net spend and the wage bill from the last few seasons. Re. Shirt sponsorship, please do some research on FFP as there is an allowance of £10m 😉😂 And finally. Brennan was sold for £47.5m clear profit on the books 😂 and of the 13 signings this summer - how many are loans, how many have been signed on long-term contracts so amortisation kicks in and Callum Hudson-Odoi was £3m 🤦🏻♂️
Every other owner of Forest, including Nigel Doughty, were always happy to sell Forest's best players because they lacked real ambition. This time our owner is serious about investing in our club to achieve great things
@@scotthands4396johnno was never our best player, going forward he'd of been on the subs Bench and that's no disrespect to him, it's the style I believe we'll play more through the middle, that was when we played our best last season. I know the money spent on transfers is the headline but it should be pointed out that Marinakis has pumped a lot of money into upgrading both the youth and training facilities, is trying to push the women's team on too (narrowly missing out on promotion last season despite topping their division) and invests into the local community too. And he's committed to stadium expansion too. He has done his level best to bring success to this football club and we couldn't be more grateful!
Forest are not that far away. They have improved defensively. Awoniyi is an on form premier striker. Just signed the best CDM in europe so whats to stop them? Anything less than top 10 this season will be underachieving.
It's going to take time to change our playing style from low block to progressive football, which Cooper has said he will aim to do. I don't think many Forest fans would aim for top 10 this season, personally I would be happy with 14th while trimming the existing dead wood from our squad
@RobinHood-us7sg he's a great player and a fantastic signing for Forest but initial comment saying best CDM was hilarious. I'm sure they'll try to make a profit, Sangare turns 26 in December, most players have their biggest transfer between 22-26. In 2 seasons he'll be approaching 28, although in his prime, unlikely he'll go for silly money
@@salsabila786yeah who knows where the market will be in the future 🤔 and what is silly money but if CDM is still massively in demand then I’m sure it will work out for Forest in Jan window after he turns 27 or the summer afterwards
Yes they do. There is the Top 6 - and then add in Newcastle and Villa, who have the stadium, fan-base AND ambitious Owners, but thereafter it's anyones game.
But for that cheating ref and cheating Anderlecht, Forest would probably have won the UEFA Cup in 1984 to add to their 2 European Cups. We also reached the UEFA Cup Quarter Finals in 1996 - the last remaining British club in European competition that season !!! Yes, Forest might have only played in Europe for 7 or 8 Seasons in their history - but we made a massive impact when we did !!!!

I'm sure you've posted this before, are you from Africa by any chance? Have you seen who Forest have signed? This Forest squad is full of tall, big, bustly players, Awoniyi, Sangare, Murrilo, Niakatte, Wood, Origi...Forest got power now and look deadly
I’m not normally a fan of public shows of ‘watch what we can do’ etc.. But as a Forest supporter of 30+ years - I can tell you I’ll take it with open arms. I’ve been through a lot of lows with this team over the years so I’ll take just being back in the Prem (I was sat in the Trent end with my Dad in the Collymore days) so just to be here again is a dream come true, so I can see Mr. M’s vision to a certain extent.. We’re a team on the up and I thank our Boss for putting his money where his mouth is, and backing Cooper. We’re back and we’re here to stay! ❤️🤍🌳
How many of these new players will be treated like Loic Bade, Emmanuel Dennis, Biancone and Gustavo Scarpa? Steve Cooper is ruining the reputation of the club by treating players unfairly and favouring players based on personality. Cooper out.
@@Darknightpred Bade is good enough for Sevilla though. Just won the Europa league with them. Scarpa Brazilian player of the year and shouldve been in the Brazil squad at the world cup. @@JohnnyCondon9 Scarpa and Dennis are much better than Gibbs White. Any none Forest fan can see that. People are too sentimental towards Steve Cooper. It's laughable.
Let’s get back into reality here… The Very Most Forest can achieve is becoming an established PL/Top flight team again, that’s it. What we achieved under Sir Brian will NEVER be repeated but I’d be a happy Forest fan if we could go into every season knowing we definitely won’t be getting relegated. Zero chance of finishing Top 4 unless that stupid European Superleague happens and little chance of winning a major cup competition so just being established in the PL is good enough & hopefully other Forest fans aren’t deluded by expecting more.
I appreciate your comment but nothing is impossible, look at Man City, Brighton, those teams use to be utter trash but now they're competing for top places. Basically as time moves on things changes, nothing ever stays the same.
@@thanos7753 Seriously now, you know we’ve currently NO CHANCE of being a Top 4 PL team. That’s Fact. You mentioned Brighton, they’ve just had their best ever season but that’s their limit, they won’t win any cup comps or challenge for Top 4. Also Fact. City are MILES ahead of any other team thanks to “Money” & can sign any player they want so unless Mr Greek has the same spending power as City’s owners (he doesn’t) We will never do what they’ve done in recent years. Another Fact. Like I said, if we can become an established PL team that’ll be accepted by most Forest fans👍🏻
@@pearcegreatesteverleftback03 As I said, time changes everything. Your view is too limited on the present. Manchester City and Brighton use to be nothing when I was younger, now Brighton is at the top level of the premier league and Manchester City is winning titles.
We shall see but amortisation is working in Forest’s favour….and when they can sell Brennan for £47.5m clear profit it’s all good. Marinakis has owned Forest since 2017 and they’ve had fun with FFP during that time so he’s fully aware of the process 🤙🏻
So many deluded owners. They all seem to ignore the facts that there are several abolished clubs at the top of the leagues that have a decades worth of billions invested into them. They all think they can be the next Leicester because they think they are all smarter than everyone else.
Forest sold Brennan for that very reason. Next summer can prob sell Taiwo for £60m+, he cost £17m. Then players like Elanga will be £40m+ (cost £15m), Danilo will be £40m+ (cost £16m)….they’ve now bought Murillo a young Brazilian CB and Andrew Omobamidele a young Irish CB who both could be big players in the future. Not forgetting MGW, Mangala Belgian international & Callum Hudson-Odoi who all have big resale values as well. No need to worry Forest and their fans know exactly what’s going on and the plans are being put in place 😉🤙🏻
Forest have never been dominant. They've won one league title. Dominant teams win multiple titles in a short span and stand out head and shoulders above their peers. There are only a handful of clubs who can claim a period of dominance. Even clubs with multiple league titles in a short period cannot claim dominance unless they clearly stand above. Everton probably can't claim dominance because they've picked up their titles here and there across a very long period but have never been the best team of any period. Chelsea can't because they didn't stand above United and latterly City. Wolverhampton no because they were competing with United in the 1950s and it was honours even. The clubs that can claim dominance in my eyes are City (2017-present), United (1990s but not 2000s due to Chelsea in mid-late 00s and Arsenal in early 00s), Liverpool (mid-1970s until 1990), Arsenal (1930s) and Villa (1890s). You could perhaps make an argument for a smaller burst for say Huddersfield (early 1920s) or late 2000s United. Forest don't even come close in that conversation. There are at least ten clubs in front of Forest who can claim a period of 'dominance'. I don't need to tell Forest fans to be proud of and celebrate their European success because they need no invitation but never ever a dominant club. Success, yes. Dominance, absolutely not.
Who was the most dominant club in cup competitions in the late 80s early 90s? Forest 😉 and if English clubs were allowed in Europe back then Forest would be in it every year…. Anyway, Marinakis is talking about being A dominant club not THE dominant club in the future 🤙🏻 And make sure you read up on the scandal of the UEFA cup semi final of 1984 between Anderlecht v Forest. That should’ve been a 3rd European trophy for Forest ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
@@RobinHood-us7sg There's no such thing as more than one dominant club. The literal definition of dominant is above all others. There can only be one dominant club and if there isn't one that is above the others, there isn't a dominant club. In the 50s and 60s I'd say there were no dominant clubs at all. There are probably only 5 clubs who can claim to have had a spell of dominance. Everton, with 9 league titles, I don't think have ever been a dominant team. I'm not picking on Forest.

Not a Forest fan - but here to back up Cooper, he’s doing a great job (especially with such a huge squad - something that’s sunk Chelsea)
The mistakes Forest made last season were in the Jan window - Jonjo Shelvey, Chris Wood and Andre Ayew but at least it stopped other teams getting Ayew and Wood 😂
They did do good things in Jan though with Danillo, Felipe and Navas 🤙🏻
So 50/50 transfer success isn’t too bad 😉
It'd be like if Luton had loaned out all of their players and released a few more this summer and then them saying "we didn't have any players"
secondly, this isn't the way you "build a squad".
I’ll try to reply to all your points but I can tell you’re just a troll bitter at Forest’s relative success 👍🏻
Omar Richards was brought in as 1st choice LWB and got injured early in pre-season training so was out until Jan and then came back and picked up more injuries so was out for the whole season, Toff was brought in as 2nd choice which is normal ie 2 players for every position, therefore Forest brought in Lodi on loan as 1st choice and proved his worth. No massive financial burdens as far as I can see 👍🏻
Turner was brought in as competition for Henderson but Forest couldn’t agree to Henderson £15m deal so got the Greek international with Champ League experience for half the price another good piece of business and 2 players competing for 1 position.
Comparing Forest to Everton 😂 please look at net spend and the wage bill from the last few seasons. Re. Shirt sponsorship, please do some research on FFP as there is an allowance of £10m 😉😂
And finally. Brennan was sold for £47.5m clear profit on the books 😂 and of the 13 signings this summer - how many are loans, how many have been signed on long-term contracts so amortisation kicks in and Callum Hudson-Odoi was £3m 🤦🏻♂️
