As a Counsellor, I tell my clients that all the time. No one "completes" anyone, it should be 2 complete people coming together to create a healthy union. Spouses complement, not complete each other. Also, happiness is a choice; a choice you make for yourself, your partner cant make you happy. People love chat bout my "other half" as I guess it sounds good, but in this equation, 2 halfa persons nuh meck 1. What works is 2 complete, emotionally healthy human beings coming together to share their lives with each other.

I can tell you first hand what "WIVES "!!!! (not sketells ) bring to the table.Carrying your babies for 9 months with morning sickness ,swollen face and ankles ,hypertension and suffer like an animal to push the kid out.She also breast feeds ,pump milk all day long ,change diapers and get very little sleep.She has periods every month and suffers cramps,cravings and moodiness.She also cooks for the family,does the laundry while keep the home neat and clean.She keeps the kids clean,takes them to the dentist,take them for their shots and love on them.She reads to the kids,prays with them,read the bible with them and instill good morals. She helps with home work and piano pratice or violin lessons.She also brings love,respect and honour for her husband to the table. She also encourages the husband and is his confidante and his best friend .She also brings to the table sleeping with the husband whenever he demands.There is waaay more that a WIFE brings to the table but we could go on all day.REMEMBER MOST WIVES TOOK CARE OF THEMSELVES BEFORE MEN ASKED FOR THEIR HAND IN MARRIAGE.Marrige is a beautifull institution if entered into with God,counseling and love and respect for each other.❤❤❤❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
No dear, if I could I would show you how some wives keep their homes. It's a pig sty. The type of wives you described are few these days. Women aren't learning how to cook and maintain house anymore and the modern men have no standards. They will lay up in a house with a slob. Some leave and the women never tells that her house was a pig sty. These women are different.
I second this: some women are extremely nasty to say the least. Their environment is always chaotic and dirty,and their children lazy -right here in Jamaica.

It's not the years of marriage but the quality of marriage. I know people married for 40 plus years who are together and the outside world admired them but they don't know the reason they are staying together is because they would be in the poor house if they are divorced but they live in separate wings of the house. Some people live in long marriages until one dies but it was an unhealthy relationship. Never look at the length of someone's marriage with desire or envy. Develop the person you want to become and choose a person who is fulfilled but willing to grow with you. What that looks like will be your own individual relationship.

I'm Jamaican born raised living in the US for a number of years and my husband and I raised our son to understand it's not just a man's responsibility to bring something to the table. It is just as important for a woman to brings something to the table; values, normals, her drive, vision and purpose. Though we live in another country we hold to our Jamaican roots and we both bring something to the table that is what i grew up seeing to my yound adult years. In turn our son has seen us achieve in many ways as well as he has seen us both stretch beyond our comfort zone as we grew. It is key to know you and your partner as you evolve individually as the years go you are still committed to a vision and purpose for your relationship and family. Points to know: your marriage is only a piece of the puzzle in God's plan for you....( it's not the whole picture) In arguments never go below the belt. Wounds created by the words you speak take longer to heal. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Love is not an emotion. Keep God at the foundation of all you do and go through. He knows the beginning and the end of everything. Having martial/ marriage mentors do help.

I strongly agree with you, Nicola. Watch the words you use when there is a disagreement. They get worse rather than better and the disrespect devalues the relationship.
I always like hearing Nicola's perspective on things. Always so open wise and insightful. I do think though that being a Home Maker is a job in itself. I appreciate that Alyssa said that she doesn't understand not wanting to work but not everyone is in a situation with work that they enjoy or is suited for the 9 to 5 in the traditional sense. Sone people are just suited to nurturing from a Home Maker perspective. I think there should be room for each person or couple to do what is best and works for them. I do agree that there are situations where the man doesn't want the wife to work and then ends up not liking the dynamic in which case there has to be open and honest conversation. This though can be tricky if this was what both parties were happy with and agreed to at the start. At the end of the day the Home Maker experience is what you make of it. You can be at home and still be productive and impactful. Society sees is generally as lazy. Unfortunately some people fall into that group. At the end of the day if it's for you then it's for you if not not. You also need to be willing to change so if you're Home Maker experience isn't what you though it would be then again a conversation re expectations etc needs to be had. I think we need to be open to people having different experiences and wanting different things. Again I appreciate that Alyssa and Nicola did say that they don't understand it. Great conversation.

Comprehensive interview. All I would add is not to try to make your relationship what you see from other people's relationships, as that may not be what works for you. Ensure that your relationship is what works for both of you, not what you think it should be, because you see other people doing it.
So true. I was dating someone who kept comparing a couple's relationships to ours and he wish we were like them. I told the guy" that man makes his woman a priority, something you don't do. That man has a job, something you don't have, that man keeps company with men who have a purpose, something you don't do." The women feels safe and secure with him, something I don't feel with you. That was the end. I had to tell him so he could improve himself for the next woman. When two people are living out their purpose. It brings value to a relationship but the one who is just existing will just be a drag.
Nicola drop a lot of gems. I never liked the phrase my other half. I am a whole person and must be whole to offer any type of value to myself and by extension some else. Love this discussion. My philosophy now is be true to self and be happy. Keep these discussions coming!

I was telling one of my co-workers the same thing few days ago! That she can't depend on on one to make her happy! She said her husband! I tell her find happiness for ur self! I also think as individuals we have mistaken the value of tangible assets to define "loving ourselves" but never really assessing strip away all the trimmings you afforded yourself and ask do I like this person call "me", who am I? Who am I showing as? Self discovery is a great thing to embrace as individual leading to enhanced "coupling".
