I quit my job as a nurse during COVID and now work as a civil servant, my experience as a nurse drove me into depression, I am only just recovering. I only go into the office 2 days a week and work from home other days. My pension as a civil servant is great and I am mad at myself for not joining the civil service much sooner.

@@rosebudnyoni7380 I just came back to this and noticed that my reply to your comment is gone, probably because it includes link. It is such a shame as it includes so many useful websites. Can you please Google civil service jobs in the UK, and it is usually the first one. There are plenty of TH-cam videos on how to apply for civil service jobs and how to pass the situational judgement test and interviews. All the best x

I’m now a retired nurse, I spent my last Five years working in nursing homes, it drove me into the floor, the suffering I saw and the terrible lack of care was affecting my mental health so much that I finally took my name off the register and walked away.

I worked as caregiver, I quit 2 months again, the clients and the clients children was rude, very disrespectful and constantly hearing racial slurs! It got to the point I was feeling physically sick, I decided that I love myself too much, I was not going to take this abuse! Always save money to back you up, just case you need to quit a job!

I’m sorry you were treated badly. We relied on live in care for my grandmother for a short while and the most caring wonderful nurse was African. She cared for my grandmother like she was her own mother and we are forever grateful to her for all the help and love she gave.
I can’t stand people that are rude and ungrateful towards others it’s just not acceptable especially when they are going a job that should really be done by the family.

I am so glad you got out of the care home. Your video came up on my regular TH-cam clicking. I have worked in all the different sorts of care settings in the UK. Most are awful. If the manager is desperate to get you started as quickly as possible, run away from that place! The manager did know about the sponsorship places and she did not want you to progress. She was desperate for care staff. She did not want you to progress. I am glad you are recovering from the mental anxiety you developed. The vast majority of care workers have mental health conditions, especially depression and anxiety. You will see many care workers with self harm scars and tattoos covering those scars. The lack of respect that carers get is disgusting - a lack of respect from managers, from clients and clients’ relatives. I wanted more people to know about this so I wrote about my own first hand experienced in care homes in my book The Key. I would recommend that if anyone does do care work, that they do it only for a short period of time while studying or preparing to move onto something better. Our elderly deserve better, but so do care workers. I am glad you have moved on to much better things and you are speaking positively but truthfully about your experiences.

It was a sleep in job with 24 hour shifts (up at least 3 times in the night) She is nearly having a breakdown. She’s phoned on days off and has no backup dealing with a person who is chronically ill. All for minimum wage!

I was in the same place as you! Quit my job on Friday there, mental health is wealth, no matter how much they pay or promise to pay. I'm starting as a delivery driver soon and I couldn't be happier that I've chosen my peace of mind. Will changing jobs from care work to driver won't affect your visa? Cos home office will know from your pay slip that you're no longer in Care which is the visa you were given. From what I know from the past, when the home office catches up with you, you can be deported with the clothes you'll be standing in. You leave all your money as they won't allow you to go to the bank and withdraw your money. Please check with your emloyers as a driver about your work visa. Stay blessed. London UK.

One of the best care providers I know is home instead. I worked for them for 6 months when I became unemployed. They provided in depth training before your first shift and went out of their way to match the client with the carer. For me it was never going to be a long term career choice but I recognise the crisis within the care sector. I preferred going into the homes of clients rather than a care home setting because I recognise there is often a negative culture within care homes. Good staff leave and the culture is perpetuated. There is a lack of investment in the care sector and care work is often viewed negatively. I believe until the government sees the need to invest in the care sector the issues will become more deep rooted

  • @Millionaireyl
    @Millionaireyl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

Some smaller care homes have multiple clients who are not mobile and require hoists, issues such as short staffing can be gruesome on a tiny team. This happens often and ratios can become exploited. The pay doesn't reflect the work and at times a carer can be literally saving lives for minimum wage and zero recognition. Going forward reflections on years spent with the company should come with pay increases and promotions also .

Congratulations on your new job. It's better to work in an hospital than care home. Care homes are privately owned whereas nhs hospitals are government owned and there are lots of opportunities in the nhs than care homes. Mental health is good, has it's own disadvantages too but it's less physically demanding. Just pray very well for God's leading He will direct your path.

Have worked in nursing home, private hospital, have done permanent agency work and have spent over 20years in the nhs. I can assure you nhs is the best. You have opportunity to report any form of bullying or harassment which will be thoroughly investigated. You have opportunities for career progression. Different aspects of nursing that you can work in. There is flexible working conditions. If you are not happy in an area you can apply to go to another area. I will not say more. Hi, I quit my job in health care after nearly twenty years, worked in one place for 14 years, over the last ten years the changes are ridiculous, policy and procedure, no proper training, management just talk about how to promote the service, staff been used as puppets and falling for it, it's impossible to work in this environment when your a person who can see what is actually going on and can not be fooled by all the propaganda, after many a stand off with managers over the years, the inevitable back stab was used, my health and mental health suffered in my last few years there, I went back into healthcare with another company, but left after 5 month, I just couldn't go through it, I'm now receiving support from a mental health organisation, and doing/learning new skills, I can't see myself ever going back into it, if you care and understand what care really is, you will know exactly why I have left the industry.

Thank you much appreciated, yeah it's very sad to see, there are many who work in care who have took on the mantra of look at me I'm hero, yet their to gullible to see that those above them are just using them, when policy, procedure and managers wages increasing comes before caring for the vulnerable, then care has already failed, which is the conscious plan of the government and managers are aware, sadly the staff can't see, that they are being left to fight for the crumbs that are left, they believe if the nod their heads and bow down that somehow they are brilliant, sadly their just being used and they won't fight for what's right because they already have, being confined, that the care they now provide is top class, when in reality it is nowhere near good enough, so pleased I'm out of it, you can only do your best to educate staff, that they're listening to the wrong people !!

No proper care training, which can be very dangerous for carers. Short staff, triple work to do, no help from managers, if a patient has dementia has scratched or hit you blue and red, nobody will support you from your enployers. So sorry that you had to go through this downfall of this jobs. Hope all is well now and you are better.

Wonderful to your happy in your new job so far as a mental health profession congratulations. As a mental health service user in the community I have heard people who have been inpatient have said often there are many hca staff sitting in the closed office chatting and they don’t answer the door please do not be that kind of staff member spending more time in the staff office with your work friends than actually working and properly supervising patients (the patient will have less incidents if you do that) you seem an encouraging and engaging person though and I am encouraged that you will be well liked by patients and other staff. I wish you well.

Thank God you are out of there. Although, I have not worked in a care home or as a carer since I got here, but the stories and complain I get from people will not even make me go near it. The only edge working as a carer might have over working as a Mental health support worker is that you can easily get sponsorship, but it's real hard work, so I heard. Mental health support work is Netflix and chill compared to being a care home HCA but you must follow the rules. I have been enjoying it, cause you get to meet different people both as patients and colleagues

I am now 61 and paralysed for six years and other issues. I'm lucky to have a pa and looked after at home but I dread if I ever have to go in a home as I've seen shoddiness and ignorance in hospital by workers brought in but not working for NHS ..not all but a lot... They took to me coz I bought them a box of chocolates each lol. Anyway going back about ten years ago when I was walking a gp who owned a few care homes asked me when I was having a flu jab would I like to work in his home at nights. He said they are all asleep and I could go to sleep too. Very nice. Also I have never done anything like that but he was prepared to have just anyone regardless of experience or lack of it. I don't blame you or anyone coming away from the job. I have met a few people starting into this job coz they wanted to do good but soon came away coz of the hard work and messing about. If they were treated right they would love the job and do it well which is what they wanted to do. Good luck in your future carrear. Xxx

I have been a mental health nurse for over 30 years. You need compassion, great interpersonal skills and enhanced note taking skills. Most mental health trusts will require you to complete an induction period with MAPA, safeguarding training. Mental health is not the easier option and you will be physically and emotionally drained most shifts. All care is exhausting and no care discipline is easier than the other. Apply to become a mental health worker because you are passionate about mental health. Remember mental health units also support people who require physically health care. People still have diabetes, bariatric needs and even require hoisting.

Although your content has been very informative, I would like to point out that with over 17 years in care at all dreffent job types you have to understand that no matter in working in a care home, school, NHS, support living or mental health each job has it's challenges, mental health can be more challenging than most due to the clients needs, for you to enjoy your work life in health care remember it is always short staff, you will have challenging clients that at time's can shout at you, hitting you, ect, ect, this is across all field's of work. I would advise you to get your NVQ 4. This will give you more opportunities and please your employer will only give you at time's level 2 to 3. If you do level 2 you might have to wait years before you get onto the next level. These are some of the games they play. Be careful what your saying Although you haven't named your company, your face is on view some time's these things can go against you later.
If you are working and you can afford to pay do your studies on line.
I have seen it all and I want you to be safe 🙏 that you will look into this more.

That's ok, I am looking out for you, remember try and do level 4 in health and social care, which I know they will not give you, but if I was you look yp health and social care course, find the best places that specialise in this field don't just do a course because it's cheaper than other's.
If your are planning on going to any university you will have to have NVQ, if you are paying it might be down on how long you have been working try and be in your job for over 1 year, if you can pay then I would say apply to Arden university which is an online university and you can studied any were in the world, you might be able to get a loan which you can pay back later, look in to this first, find the type of role your interested in and stay on that course, regardless of the pay hours not getting to do training these are the real points we all face in care, my last point try the NHS for work. "WHY you will be working with a organisation that's got training on the ground.
      Think and move.
I do live-in the money is very good, yes I am self-employed but I only work with one client and I am much older planning to go back home .

Hi there, I worked as an admin assistant for a care provider for 2 ½ years and left last year for a council job as the workplace was toxic. My colleagues and I got on well and I still keep in touch with them; management was the issue.
I was witness to a lot of dodgy practices that took place, especially in terms of management pocketing money from staff, sending inexperienced staff (who were not vetted) to work and forging compliance documents. This isn't everything I witnessed, just the tip of an iceberg. Managers were demanding and had a constant habit of contacting you out of hours, even if sick or on annual leave. They would manipulate you into coming in if sick or had time off.
I couldn't work in such an industry again as I felt that I was compromising my morals and values to protect a company that encouraged bad practice. One of my former colleagues who resigned 6 months before myself told me of unfortunate experiences I wasn't aware of - mainly being groomed by a male manager. It was so sad to hear and I was glad I found another job.

Lady take things easy and stop putting to much pressure on your employer and get to study your environment and the people, most of this courses you can do on your own even online because you are now in the UK, some employer have this in place but some does not and you have to do it yourself, so take it easy and enjoy your new job and be very careful because this people can be very dodging and tricky. Am a nurse working in UK for the past 27 years. Let me give you this advice now after six months you can ask your employer to sponsor you to do ‘MAPA training’ Management of Actual or Potential Aggression Training, once you have this legal registered UK professional mental health training then you are now qualified as a mental health health care worker and that is the area you will continue to work and you will become an hot cake for employer in Mental health sectors and the money is more better, some employer paid from £18 to £20 per hour while weekends and nights shift starts from £23 an hour. I was hired as a DSP a few months ago, and the process was a month. At that time I was stressing about finding a way to get to the assigned home. I let it go because I didn’t want to work there, truthfully. I’m wanting to phase out the work.

I’m such a good aide that I told my agency that I am quitting and they told me this is one of the best live in cases and I said that is good so that means someone else would be happy to have it,she then told me she’d be very frustrated if I left this case because I fit in and the family likes me. So I’m supposed to suffer for the agency and the family. Crazy!

@@TolaLusi I understand where your coming from but it is becoming to much. The client goes to church every Sunday and to her family house and out to eat at predominantly white restaurants where I’m stared at,I am a live in and feel I don’t have a life of my own. I appreciate that they love me but in the beginning I told my client when she gets better we can walk more & she said yes then I can fire you. I also told her she can’t walk away from me without supervision, she said “well what are u gonna do,write it down?”I cooked her food and she said I must not like it because I’m serving her. Her family had my back but it’s hard to work with those type of comments being made & being waken up in middle of nights & early mornings. Hi I am offering care giving to my mother as a full time job. Sometimes my family helps me with money but not many times and I feel like my mother is able to run the place herself. She runs a farm. I am not a farmer and I don't enjoy being here. I do the records pay bills do accounts and basically also do nothing because it's 2 much for me. My family doesn't seem to care. My projects are running behind. Should I just leave my mother. She is 86 and she is able to do alot only she is not mobile but can still move around
