I want to knit "tubes" of varying lengths to act as holders which I can join together to hold my tin whistles (really loking at the idea of a knitted case). Could I in theory create an I-cord tube of say a 20? 30? st diameter? The use the "slip" st edge to join the next "tube to it?
Yes, I think that this would work - it's basically a double-knitting technique - but you'd need to play around a bit to see whether it's the best way to achieve what you're after. I'd be inclined to think it might be easier to just knit the tubes in the round, and then join them as you go. So I'd knit the first tube in the normal way. Then on the second one, mark a stitch, and each time you reach that stitch, pick up a stitch on the first tube and knit it together with the stitch from the second tube. Continue to that on every round. I'd imagine that would be a little easier. Sorry not to have replied sooner, for some reason I'm not getting notifications for every comment. All good wishes, Jen
That's one of the best cast-ons I've seen for a shawl starter! Thanx!!
