I was lucky to have a front row seat in the building of the 70’s GM muscle cars as I worked at the now closed GM plant in Fremont Ca.I started working there in 1967 until they closed in 1982.During that time we built the GTOs, 442s among others.GTOs were my favorite. When I volunteered for O.T. I was sent to the shipping area where I got to drive cars ready for shipping which was a lot of fun.

They aren't "Forgotten"anymore, the mid-late 70's Muscle cars are BY far the most popular build since the CONVID "Outbreak", atleast out here in the Southwest/West. it all started out with people wanting something cheap and easy to tinker around with while they were stuck at home and the cars grew on them, 75% of my car club now has a car/project from 73-79 of one of the big 4 (AMC Included) and loving them. We even have clubs solely dedicated to the Smog/Malaise Era cars. They are cheap to buy, more often than not still running or so close that it takes a couple hours of fooling around with them to get them to start, the parts are still widely available and they have aged out of the smog regulations everywhere but Commiefornia so you can give them the power they SHOULD have had to begin with.

You missed the 1978 Plymouth Volare Street Kit Car, one of which I owned. They slapped the learn burn ignition on a race engine. But let it be known ...... 360 E58 package, black valve cover NASCAR spec engine, 9 inch rear end from a truck, oversized torsion bars, window retainer tabs, NASCAR wheels. With a 1000 cfm Carter and a 1968 dual point distributor, 10.63 in the quarter. I wound up chaining the engine to the frame because of the torque twist. I actually tore the roof on mine launching it at the track. How they got that thing past the EPA is beyond me.

What is the land speed record for the 1963 Studebaker Avanti?
As for Ron Hall, he and his team have taken a Studebaker powered car to a new land speed record. It is enough, for now. But there is always next year - and, who knows what the future holds? On September 22, a 1963 Studebaker Avanti set a new world speed record with a two-way average of 195.640 MPH at the U.S.F.R.A.

Initially the Judge was a response to the Roadrunner, Plymouth’s stripped down no option muscle car. But by the Judge’s release, it became the top of the line GTO. I have to agree with the video saying the T-37 was Pontiac’s actual response to the Roadrunner. It was a lot more comparable. Kinda like comparing the Firebird Formula to the Trans Am. You got the go fast goodies without all the flash. Which is exactly what a Roadrunner was.

The AMX was first. The Javelin was a lengthened AMX. Most people get that wrong, as in this video.
The '70 Monte Carlo SS was NOT the first Chevy to compete in NASCAR as the video suggests and the LS6 as well as the 4-speed were available in the 1970 MC.
A 1973 Chevelle SS might be more uncommon than a Laguna S-3.

Shame that the muscle era ever had to come to an end!

From someone who grew up in the muscle car era, the Olds 350 Rallye was not considered a muscle car. That spot was held by the Olds Cutlass 442. The 350 Rally was considered the poor guy's car.

And I suppose a Road Runner was not a muscle car because it was just a cheaper GTX.

the yellow oldsmobile rallye 350 was the perfect scam ... it was a REGULAR cutlass painted yellow, that they charged more money on !! ... (yawn)

And I suppose the Judge and GT-37 were scams as they were just GTOs.

We had a 76 Laguna when I was a kid. It was stolen and nobody cared. They did us a favor. Every car on this list was forgotten for a reason. They were all ugly as hell. I don't care how rare they are today and how much horsepower they have. EVERY car on this list is a clown car!!! Then and now
