I listen to this over and over.....such a beautiful piece! and so stunningly performed!
This channel is fantastic, it's not easy to find such rich recordings of early baroque music.
Daniel Squitieri actually there’s quite a lot of high quality Baroque on TH-cam. The problem is, goog’s algorithms are stingy with it. It took me a year + of hours a day listening and experimenting with offbeat search terms til the they started to consistently give me some REAL Baroque (both by recommendation and search results.). If you’d like, I can provide you some tips on cracking the YT Barocco vault =]
EDIT: you are right tho... this channel often provides the ONLY quality rendition of various pieces in the first 4-5 pages of search results. Thank God for this little Berkeley band: I’ve always liked ‘early Music’ but without them, I probably would have never become happily ADDICTED to it. It’s almost as if, because there’s little money in any classical, YT buries the good stuff to discourage listenership.
@jddrew1000 In the baroque period, the five string cello was very popular. It has a wider range that fits most baroque bass lines easily. The cello in this video is one of perhaps five instruments that remain from the 17th century.
Wunderbar musiziert! Das hört man sich gleich mehrmals an :)
I heard this piece played at the Carmel Bach Festival when I was around 11 years old. I apparently loved it so much that I squeezed my father's hand as we sat listening to it in the front row. It took me years to find it again, after searching and searching for this beautiful piece. I am now 30 and can stop searching! Thank you so much!!
Mille mercis pour cette excellente présentation
Thank you Maria.
Superb !!! I have to admit I had not heard of Tarquinio Merula before - Many thanks for this upload !!
maravillosa, fris, heerlijk gespeeld, geweldig
Fabulous sound, subtle, logical and intelligent phrasing. Thank you for making this world more beautiful with your music making! Fondest regards from your fan from Florence - David
Beautiful.
Ah! Another treasure I found! I love you Voices ( and the absent ones, of course)
Always great to watch your videos. Continue developing this great job, congratulations! cheers from Brazil.
Excellent and enjoyable
Como me gustan las ejecuciones de éste maravilloso ensamble musical Voices of Music y en especial las bellas piezas del repertorio barroco, como ésta lindísima obra del genial Tarquinio Merula y su Ciaccona.
maravillosa y esplendorosa!!!
Amazing!! Bravo!!
Wonderful..
Wonderful! Another video from the best VoM concert this season! Check out the Kapsberger Toccata played on the lute and the Schmelzer Sonata, two other pieces from the same concert!
de zoveelste mooie boeiende Ciaccona, met 4 samen en ook ieder apart bedankt !
Bravissimi!
Magnífico. Qué belleza.
I will probably listen to this for the rest of the day; lovely.
Fabulous!
Merveilleux.
Thank you !
Un brano che emana un'allegria irrefrenabile! Grazie agli esecutori che ci fanno gustare queste perle preziose.
Most enjoyable, and how delightful to see your obvious delight in playing this beautiful piece. Bravo!
wonderful!!!!!!!!
Thanks David, hope to revisit Florence soon :)
thank you
Unbelievable!!!
This is wonderful.
Hhmm, I think I like it. I'll have to play it a few more times to make sure.
Great!
Very nice.
Incredible! I know this ciaccona as "Zefiro Torna"......I think by Monteverdi? With two sopranos, two recorders etc. What a winning team this wonderful group is!
It's a classic melody repeated by many baroque era composers.
(see Kapsberger, Cazzati and others...) you prob know this: maybe I'm misreading your comment =]
Check the Merula rendition by Jordi Savall.
I like the cello solo. He got into it
Enchanting.
I will share.
@jddrew1000 From bottom to top, C G D A E, all fifths.
awesome Bravi to all !
Must be directly from Heaven!
So alive! Your Pachelbel's Canon is the ONLY one I'll listen to - and that's why! I can't imagine a better baroque ensemble.
Piu`una opera artistica e` "semplice" piu`e`bella, simile alla perfezione... e piu`"tocca" L`anima ..........
Of they would only teach kids to do this on their recorders, there would be a lot less of them who would grow to hate their music lessons.
Bravi!
The music from this time is still so near to heaven; I don`t think, that this was composed by human - it sound`s like "heaven-music", created by angels (or god himself?) - I love it so much!!
@jddrew1000 it's a violoncello piccolo
So this cello has an E string. Very nice!
Merula knew Monteverdi - This is more or less exactly the ground bass under Monteverdi's Zefiro Torna as near as I can tell :) It's lovely and this is a great rendition. Were you taught by either of the Brueggens, Hanneke?
Bravo pour les diminutions , ce répertoire ne pardonne pas et en même tps c'est très excitant pour l'auditeur.
@Walvis2007 So the strings are F, C, G, D, and A?
wonder why it has 5 strings...
wonderful
Absolutely gorgeous playing from everyone in one of the most delightful pieces ever written... Elizabeth Blumenstock is a true master!
yes ! and Hanneke van Proosdij not less !
Delightful. The very word👍
