I enjoy book binding projects, and have made several. I never thought of doing black on black. It looks fantastic! I see a new book project in my future. Thanks for the inspiration!
Using some sort of twine or thin rope bands is a lot better imo than leather strips because it's better wearing where the signature is sewn to it, and because you can unravel and spread out the ends of the strands which makes it adhere to the boards better. Just a tip.
I find that if I score the edge of signatures with either an emery-board of fine-grade sandpaper, the glue binds the pages to the cover stronger, Just enough to rough up the edges.
Hi Magnus, sorry I haven't been on much. Been really busy and eventually I'll watch your livestream replays eventually. Glad to see you posting videos again and not shorts. This is going to help me with my book *nods*
Outstanding and educational as usual 100% full disclosure with the financial side of things, I do like your attitude and no fcukin around way you go about things. Your honesty is appreciated. A tip for you with the jigsaw if you stick a small strip of decorator's tape over the front of the cutout on the skid and mark it in line with the blade it helps hold a line when cutting. You are pretty good with the saw but it's always good to have another line to follow. I always had the blade wander on me at first I thought it was just the drugs and alcohol but it's apparently an issue you can get when using a smaller blade. You probably know this but I thought I would throw it in anyway. All the best from Scotland
Thanks for the kind words. Great tip on the jigsaw, we'll see if my brain remembers it. I did take it over to the belt sander for some help afterwards.
@Dark Horse Workshop to be honest you do have a pretty straight eye so you might not get any benefit from it. Just watched the etching show you made and I was surprised by the materials needed to achieve a good result, I thought you would have needed all sorts of crazy siht to get the result. I mentioned before that I'm going through your back catalogue of shows so I'm learning a lot from your stuff so thank you for your generosity with your time and talents. My shoulder surgery has delayed everything for me but hopefully, I will start drawing next week so I will be paying attention to your lessons on that. I might upload the drawings and plans on my TH-cam channel and if someone can learn from my mistakes I will be partly paying forward a fraction of what I've learned from you. I'm not kissing your erse I'm just being honest. And I will happily help with Scottish pronunciation if required as It can get tricky. Anyway, thanks again.
Another awesome project!! Although I was laughing that you have dark horse written on your saw… you need to put a sticker on there to make it official 😂😂
It's both a pain in the ass and rewarding. I do have a couple simple book videos on here though if you haven't seen them, which are about 90% less pain in the ass. :)
man this video is so thirsty for monetization and engagement. well i guess your getting it, but its to say it's too much for me. less than 3 minutes in and its all you wanting something from me. like i get it, but its too needy too soon.
I'm not needy really my videos are directly to advertise the patterns and art that I sell, and my other sources of income. If they were just ... free... there would be no videos.

I now have binding ideas! Thank you!
That's awesome to hear. Books are both fun and can range pretty quickly in complexity.
i’m a fan of your videos
Beautiful work.
You never disappoint.....
Be Well

Reply with shorts. The feature we probably don't need.
Yes! Book tutorial! Definitely will make an attempt on a leather cover rather than my usual fabric ones.
Definitely need to try some etching some time.
That's one slick looking book!
Well Done. From London i was looking for a workshop to join myself. Thank you finally i found someone sounds genuine and rumble appreciate that.
That was my first book making video to watch. It was so interesting, thank you for presenting it to us.
Glad you liked it. I have some much simpler ones her on the channel as well.
Beautiful work. Never thought of metal etching. You have me thinking. Very clear explanation. Thanks.
Awesome project. 💜
This is way cool !
Thanks. :)
Awesome book 🤘
Fine job as always Richard, keep up the good work!
Nice project. :)
This is such a beautiful project!
I’m going to use this video to help me make a book based on my dnd character
Hey thanks for making cool stuff. I’m still wanting to etch bronze/brass from your video on that.
Answering this 3 months later. Get after it! It's intimidating but not that hard really.
Very cool 😀
Thanks.
Wonderfully made:)
What the heck, people! 8.5K views and only 679 likes? That's ridiculous. Don't forget to like the video! Keep Magnus' channel going strong.
Thanks Wethers, it's the never ending grind. Haha.

Good work. I'd recommend Four Keys channel for learning bookmaking.
I love that channel thanks!
Beautifully done. Do you think you could make a video on making a cover for a printed book? I’ve got one that could use a special cover
Great idea!
Im from Russia, good luck
excellent

Haha. Sharing shopspace sometimes you need to label it quick so your studiomate doesn't walk off with it. ;)
No need for so much glue!!! But it will stay put for sure!!; Oh use a bone folder to crease your paper better!
Thanks for the tips!
im leaving a comment because its incredibly important for you as a creator
I'm replying because I appreciate it!
I would sell my soul for this book
That's a sexy book! Do you know a good way to make turnshoes? Love the production quality of the videos
What was the hacksaw looking tool he was using at 6:19
Edit: I believe it to be a wire coping saw
Jewelers saw?
Yes, coping saw. Can also use a jewelers saw. Check out Rio Grande jewelry supply
You're giving Bob Ross vibes for book making.
I love to hear that. ;)
Can you provide a link where to buy the sheets of metal?
You can try jewelry supply places, or metal supermarkets. I buy it in a store.
@@DarkHorseWorkshop thanks!
👍
"incredibly rewarding to make, as well as a giant pain in the ass." sounds like my kind of project!
Hahaha that's awesome.
How do I contact you I would like to get a photo album made if posible
I don't really do much custom work anymore but you can message me info@darkhorseworkshop.com
This looks so dope! It also looks like a giant pain in the ass!

12 of the 15 pounds of this book must be glue lol
