Thats the beauty of hinduism you don't need to follow it to follow it You can leave it you are free to do everything But does Christianity do that? No it doesn't, it bounds you with your religion, you are not free. Alsoyou need to do more research on hinduism to say anything about it It is so vast
We are bound to our Creator just as we are bound to our parents. They will always be your parents and your genes will always reflect your heritage, no matter how much you may rebel. There is no such thing as “freedom” as we are always bound to each other. You are not free to do evil without repercussion. You are not free from gravity. You are not free from time and space. You are not free of sleep and drink and food and survival. You are not free of God's Cosmic laws. Even in Hinduism, you are not free from karma and samsara. In Christ, you are free to love God and your brothers. In Christ, you are bound to God's love. God is the source of all that is good, and it is good for you to bind yourself to Him. “Hell” is to be unbound or separated from God. True despair is to not be bound to God. True liberation is union with God.
Before I was Orthodox I was a Theravada Buddhist. I generally explain to people that Buddhism is like a Yew Tree. It is beautiful and much can be made from it but it is toxic and the tree itself is weak.
@masgozaimas sounds like to me he is trying to say, it has some good true values that you can establish your moral framework on but there isn't anything actually spiritual to work with. Or the other way around
Buddhism doesn't teach that desires are bad, it teaches that desiring something you can't have is bad. Which it is because desiring something you can't have will only lead to suffering or worse, criminal behaviour as an attempt to claim it.
I am Korean and I just went to divine liturgy! Loved it and I would like to ask you if you can talk about the persecution of the Orthodox Faith in detail under Communism.
China had a major Orthodox population before the communists took power, but its rarely talked about. The Russian Orthodox Church did missions there and it would be great if Kyle made a video about the church’s missionary efforts in Asia.
Hey Kyle! I use to live in Asia (Japan specifically, travelled around Asia, visited Buddhist Temples, Shinto Shrines). I think Eastern Religions have good values (asceticism and self denial) but no coherent theology or metaphysics. They have spiritual but not the intellectual side of things. Western Religions (Islam, Judaism, Western Christianity (Protestant + Catholic) have the opposite issue. They have coherent theology and metaphysics but no self-denial (instead promoting mindless hedonism). They have the intellecual but not the spiritual. The Eastern Orthodox embrace the best of both worlds, combing the coherent theology and metaphysics of Western Religions and the asceticism and self-denial of Eastern Religions. The New Agers have the worst of both worlds: embracing the worse aspects of eastern religions (incoherent metaphysics and theology) while discarding the best parts of eastern religions (the self-denial aspects), retaining the worse aspects of Western religions (promoting mindless hedonism) and discarding the best aspects (any structured theology so they can embrace vague amorphous empty "spirituality" (read: drug fueled emotional ecstasy masquerading as an empty so called "spirituality.")
@@reigenlucilfer6154 Well, western religions don't promote hedonism to the degree that secular humanism does. Catholics and especially Protestants don't put an emphasis on denying the pleasures of the flesh. Muslims (especially here in the west) are very hedonistic. The Catholic Church technically have it in their doctrine but don't put any emphasis on it.
Kyle, if you can, could you please do a video contrasting Jehovah's witnesses with orthodoxy. Im a catechumen after leaving witnesses, and i noticed how many witnesses go the atheistic route. They know and hate catholicism, but never know anything about orthodoxy. And i think videos about it would help give them a non atheistic path. It would also be great if you debated youtubers like alt worldly, lloyd evans, or exjw caleb. They are hardcore atheists who take a lot of ex witnesses with them on that path. Leaving the witness community basically destroys you, so these are very very pained souls who need christ. A deep dive video would be amazing. Especially since there isn't a lot of orthodox vs Jehovah's witnesses content out there. Love the channel btw
@@OrthodoxKyle Awesome! Appreciate the response. Really hope you can do a debate with those youtubers too. They are very arrogant about how "dumb" christianity is, and its painful to hear. A very literalist view of the world.
@@heassik3088 I appreciate the interest. Honestly it was a massive pile of small things that built up. Along with some more personal issues I experienced inside. But I guess from a more theological standpoint, issues like the beard always bothered me because it was a clear deviation from scriptural precident. The other thing I struggled with was the censorship they wanted to exert. Arbitrary rules with no foundation are what started my drift away. I started watching Johnathan Pageau and learned about symbolism and symbolic ways of thinking. This I would say is what shattered my literalist view of the world, and I was never the same. It sparked a thirst for deeper knowledge in theology and meaning. Which slowly eroded my desire to be witness. Because I learned that while they claim to have a lot of answers. Their answers are shallow at best. A huge lake that's only an inch deep. Very literalist. And very harsh in most interpretations. Also dying on the dumbest hills they could pick theologically. It got to the point where I would answer at the meetings with strait up orthodox theology. The worst part was no one noticed, and the ones who did thought I was super deep and insightful. I was then offered the ministerial servant position. They didn't even know their own theology. And it was so bad that I realized how shallow everyone was, and how easy it can be to subvert a congregation. When that offer was made, I decided it was time to honestly look at my own beliefs from outside the website and org. Because I couldn't lecture others about their spirituality while being so conflicted in my own stance. Once that dam broke, and I learned all the dirty secrets and all the contradictions, and so many psychological techniques used to keep everyone from leaving and questioning out of fear. It was over for me. I immediately started fading out. I finally realized why presuppositions, epistemology, theology all matter so much. Because they dictate everything we do and also illustrated why witnesses are so harsh under the veneer of happy they put on. Orthodox was the only way for me. This was in part because not only does it have strong cohesion theologically. But in a technical way I love the decentralized way its held together. Because even though it can be divisive at times. Its very hard to subvert, and very hard to make arbitrary changes to the theological beliefs. There's so much more I experienced with orthodoxy, but i'll keep it at that for now. Sorry for the long post. There's so many more parts to the story. But that's more of the direct line which relates to orthodox specifically. Whats your story? Im very interested to hear it! Not very often I see any witnesses around here. So many love the atheist route.

It's a lot easier to refute Islam than “eastern religions” because they are so vast and philosophical. Islam is basically a runaway cult. “Hinduism” alone is like 100 different things that all differ. They get into non-dualism and other difficult concepts that are basically impossible to discuss. So it leads one to countless hours of meditation to hopefully glean some kind of understanding or experience. Christ has a fairly easy to digest message and the New Testament is relatively short compared to all the Vedas and related texts. The message is simple, Love God and love your neighbor as yourself. The rest of the theology is not necessary to understand. Just go to an Orthodox church and get baptized and take the Eucharist as often as you can. Do what you can to get closer to God every day. You Dont need a PhD or a high IQ or 100s of hours of free time to read.
@@DFMoray I didnt get the conclusion of your message but okay . Well for hinduism , there is never been a hindu or a group of them ever in documented history ( atleast not on a global scale that “I” am aware of ) that have raided the land of say muslims or Christians and forcibly converted them . For me Hinduism is much better and Rational but rationality shouldnt be the criteria to decide which is the truth . Hinduism dosent gives a shit about islam or christianity, they say that any religion that teaches to love god is a true religion. The thing is there is much more freedom here . I can be an atheist and still be a hindu . Thats cause In here religion is not whats the western religion , here its to follow your dharma “Ten duties that makes you a better person” or something like your 10 very good morals , its more to be a human is to be a hindu . And the bhakti aka the worshipping is a tool or a way to realise the self or to love every being . The thing is here gays or Trans are loved to , they are seen as people blessed and their blessings are considered very high . Which suited my thinking cause if someone was born a trans or gay how is it their mistake ? Ofcourse you can ask a gay or lesbian to be just like the society wants you to be but at the end who are you living for ? The society ? Or for yourself ? The end goal of Hinduism is to get Moksha or be free from this cycle of birth and death by realising the true self and the ultimate reality BRAHMAN . Hinduism is Polytheistic that it says that the life , matter and non matter is from one source the supreme reality and consciousness Brahman , he has many forms such as Krishna , Vishnu and Shiva . There is indeed one god in Hinduism as well i mean in reality , its just that our way of worshipping it is different . Either ways the one in this vides talked all absolute bs 😹 he dont knows the difference between upnishads and veds . Veds are considered the absolute truth and Upanishads are converted those veds teachings into humanised form . Like the same as the caste problem , its said that shudras came from the feets of the brahman but does a consciousness has a feet ? Thats how it was converted into the upnishads but people took it on their ego that i cant come from feet . People dont realise that they can change their caste and its not by birth its decided by your actions its literally mentioned in the geeta itself . Bhudhism is a more rational approach to the truth when people started sacrificing animals for their own greed Bhudism flourished and came to teach the hindus that you have been mitigated from ur path .
Old Hindu here. I wanna say that Hinduism and Orthodox Christianity have a lot in common, Hindus believe in Moksha which is union with god’s energy like Theosis, both venerate icon of saints(yes Hindus do this) and both use incense while praying and much more. But unlike Orthodox Christianity,Hinduism was actually constructed by Brahmin priests (they worshiped old/Vedic Hinduism)before to resist Buddhism and there was a battle of which was a way better system of belief .The priests copied many parts of Orthodoxy into their new constructed religion. This new Hinduism then influenced modern Buddhism a lot .That’s why Hinduism and Buddhism are so mystical and contradictory
Listen, i appreciate there are some similarities (mostly occurring after St Thomas entered india) Christians maintain a strict divide between the creation and created. A human cannot erase their ego to become God
It's the other way around. Orthodoxy copied a lot from the dharmic religions either directly or through Manichaeism. The halo on the icons, monasticism, shaving the head when becoming a monk, prayer beads to name a few. The Buddha even became a saint (read Barlaam and Josaphat). There's a lot of stuff alien to Judaism but common in orthodoxy and dharmic religions, a lot of stuff that appeared near Judea even before Jesus Christ was born.
If you do not know about any topic, try to speak frugally about it. It is true that SANATANA DHARMA developed out of brahminism but it certainly doesn't mean that brahmins were the only one constructing or following the religion. There were a class of 'Kshatriyas' who did the works that brahmins also could although they were lost due to Islamic invasions. in SANATANA DHARMA, Buddhism is also regarded as a part of it, although called as Nastika DArshana (atheist philosophy). Actually, in Nepal, Buddha is considered the 9th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Orthodoxy came into India in 1st century AD. Hinduism, (Yes Puranic Hinduism, what would be modestly recognisable to modern hindus as SANATANA DHARMA)n bdeveloped before that. Therefore, Orthodoxy didn't influence Hinduism in its development.

As a Vaisnava I feel that equating maya to everything being relative and unreal is a bit of a strawman. The only variety of Hindus who believe this to some degree are neo-Hindus (people who buy into pseudo-Vedic theological/philosophical ideas created in the 19th and 20th century by British-educated nominal Hindus who hadn't studied the Vedic scriptures) and perhaps some Advaitans. As far as I know the latter believe that the material world is unreal, but they believe that it has a real spiritual foundation that can be perceived directly, so any knowledge about it wouldn't really be illusory because it doesn't have to pass through illusion to get to the knower. I won't defend that philosophical viewpoint however, because my philosophical school interprets maya as being something else entirely and something which doesn't equate to being "unreal" at all. I'd say our view is very similar to Daoism which you seem to have a slightly higher opinion of.
@@wayananakubud9163 I don't know about "better" but it seems to me that it's a continuation of the original Vedic tradition. It seems to have greater fidelity to the Vedic scriptural canon because even the Rig Veda states unequivocally that Vishnu is the Supreme, although all the Vedic scriptures (of which the whole canon is listed in the Vedas, which Shaivas accept as revelation too) speak with one voice as to Vishnu's position. The only verses calling Shiva the Supreme are from later sectarian works not mentioned in the Vedas as being canon. I'd also say that our philosophy seems more parsimonious overall and on some level I feel more of a holy presence within Vaisnava saints I've been around than any other Hindu denomination which makes me that there is something more to it than the rest.

Suffering and struggling are a big part of Christianity too but the difference is that we have Christ, the most high God incarnate, to show us the way as opposed to an awakened human or an avatar of a Deva. Christ is God, not a god. I think that's what it boils down to. There is no competition between the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit as with Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. Love your enemy is the main thing that differentiates Christianity as far as morality and teachings go. Even from Judaism.
It's really interesting how orthodoxy combines both western and eastern aspects of spirituality/philosophy. It's. Not too spiritual or too material,it's right in the middle
Hey, I am a Christian from India my father used to practice Hinduism and Buddhism idk actually but in 1993 he embraced the Lord Jesus Christ and now we are Christians and I can say that was the best decision of their life. Lord Jesus Christ had mercy on me a Sinner ☦
What's really funny is that this guy's criticism of Eastern Religion fits into two categories. a) based on strawman b) Apply to Christianity 6:20 Correct me if I'm wrong, but Maya doesn't seem to say the material world doesn't exist, it's when you seek goodness from the material world and not the "eternal world", when you confuse the soul's purse of happiness to the body..... Christians also have a similar view. 6:50 you believe in an immaterial soul too I assume, so what applies to them but doesn't for you? 7:20 Transcendental Arguments suck from my experience. 12:20 that only gives a weak pragmatic argument for what to believe, not what actually is true or more likely to be true. That seems like an over-simplification of that concept of desire in Buddhism. Clearly Buddhism teaches that virtue and charity are good things to do.
@@splash9269 You haven't shown that you both show a misunderstanding of both. The Christian soul is not immaterial the soul comes after the body in Christianity. In Christianity One Spirit (God) animates all life and through the senses and locus of the body it forms an identity which is the soul. So before you were born there was no eternal soul that slipped into a baby fetus at some point which is what the Eastern believe (that everyones soul is eternal and recycles). In Christianity only God is Eternal So with that said the Christian soul is anything but immaterial it is dependent on the conjugation of the Spirit and the Body(creation). This is logically perfect because after all the soul is created, unlike God who was not created and Eternal.
Wasn't he just talking about how Buddhism denies the existence of the Atma? Anatma, or “no soul” as opposed to Hinduism. Or is this about something else?
Of course you can refute them, when it's one of our own across the table. Bring in legitimate, reputed experts from Hinduism and Buddhism and let them answer your questions and critiques of their respective worldviews. I have no doubt the discussions wouldn't be so lopsided then. This is ofcourse, if you believe in honest apologetics.
This is a gross misunderstanding of Buddhism. The Buddha never said there was no soul. He also never said that the world was all suffering. The first noble truth is simply "suffering". It means that there IS suffering. Also, Buddhism is not atheistic. There are "gods", but they have no bearing on the path or the goal so it is one thing the Buddha didn't really like to talk about. Orthodox Christian, former 15 year Theravada Buddhist here.
really? i know some thai guy who served as a monk twice in his life, claimed that in theravada there is no belief in God. my friend, who is a mahayana, did say that there are lesser gods and goddesses that respect the buddha as the enlightened one, or smtg like that if my memory doesnt betray me.
@reigenlucilfer6154 There are "god-like beings" that you could equate to gods but they are irrelevant to the Buddha's teaching because they have no bearing on attaining awakening
@@reigenlucilfer6154 There are Gods, but not a supreme creator God, the closer there is to a supreme God is the Dharmakaya, the "Body of Truth" from which all the Buddha's emanate, which is basically the same as the logos in the west.
@@garganotay1979 Yeah, in Buddhism the Buddhas are greater than the Gods, the Gods die and can be reborn in the human realm and even go to hell after their ridiculously long lifespans expire, but a Buddha is eternal.
No Christian will ever explain with honesty the Buddhist worldview, apparently. While there is no supreme creator God in Buddhism, the closest there is to this is the Dharmakaya, the "Body of Truth" from which all the Buddhas emanate, quite similar to the Logos in the west, with the difference that the Dharmakaya is not a creator. Also, it's when we say there is no self, we mean that there is no separate self, that is an illusion, this illusion of self is created by the five aggregates which are basically the construction blocks for what we call the self, but it's not meant to be understood as an eternal unchanging soul, it is changing.
@@off6848 You mean that is it is likely that there is no creator? From a purely logical standpoint? Can you explain why? Also, what is it with these constant appeals to logic? I see atheists appeal to evidence while theists appeal to logic, as if logic can get one beyond immediate experience (spoiler alert: it cannot). The thing is that without logical inferences evidence does not tell us much, but without evidence, pure logic is rather empty, it is just sophistry. Anyway, why do you think that from a logical standpoint it is unlikely that there isn't a creator?
Wow the timing of this video couldnt be more perfect. I started Christian apologetics towards Hindus and this is providing a very good biggers understanding on it.

I feel like the Pascal wager isn’t really a proper argument against Buddhism. Also the concept of craving being the source of all suffering, it’s not eliminating all your goals and desires it’s just saying don’t cling to anything in the world. Be in the world but not of the world.
Yeah, the thing is with Maya, it is kind of innacurate to say it is just all unreal. This is actually the minority opinion. The singular legit school that commits to literally thinking Maya is fake is Advaita Vedanta of Adi Shankaracharya, It is a pretty small tradition, but it has found a lot of appeal in the West due to being a highly intellectual and logically rigorous path, which is appealing to western minds. Also, more practically, because of the Efforts of Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda who first exposed Indian Spirituality to the Western stage at the World parliament of Religions a century ago, promoting Advaita as the primary example of one of their four quadrants of Indian spiritual processes summarized for people should explore, ideally with a mixture of each suited for them (Bhakti yoga/devotional paths, Raja Yoga "Energetic/Mystical" paths, Karma Yoga or Yoga of action/works, Jnana Yoga or purely intellectual paths). All these quadrants encompass a myriad of schools with very different approaches, though most of them affirm that maya is in some way real. And the funny thing is it's almost not crucially important how you logically think of things like Maya, as the essence of spirituality is finding some way to put yourself aside so you can be receptive to the essence of life, divinity, god, etc., and there are as we know a million ways to achieve that, and varying mental ideologies for spiritual traditions are no different. You can become so overwhelmed with devotion that you lose your small self totally in the nectar of love for God (Bhakti), You can do work on the spiritual aspects of your human system to literally open yourself up the God on an energetic level through sophisticated and powerful practices (Raja), You can become so pure in your devotion to the God in the world around you through Karmas or works that you can experientially percieve the divinity in everything around you (Karma, various schools of yoga and tantra, including Shaivism, Shaktism, etc have aspects of Bhakti, Raja and Karma yoga) or through deep contemplation on some idea, whether that be the idea that Maya is a dream and you need to wake up, or something else (Jnana, which is honestly less at the forefront in Hinduism but was advertised a little harder as it resonates with Western sensibilities, and is still a legit path).
Obviously you can't boil down all the religions of India into one thing called “Hindhism” but maya does mean illusion at the end of the day and it isn't part of Christianity. The world is real, however it is “fallen.” Hindus refer to this as the Kali yuga or something. There are many paralels but at the deepest core they are different. If I were to explain Christianity to a “Hindu” I would basically say it's all about love. “Love your enemies” is perhaps the most profound quote. I would also say the most high God above all incarnated once, in the person of Jesus, in order for humans to become closer to God and to destroy death in the ressurection. Very different than multiple incarnations (and deaths) of Vishnu and the Trimurti. I still don't know where I land with reincarnation but I will tell you it seems like it's a kind of a hell, otherwise why would we want to liberate ourselves from it. Christ teaches us that we can be with him in the kingdom of heaven and that it is within us. So you may see many similarities but they are also a little different in big ways. I think Orthodox Christianity is more similar to Hinduism than Protestantism. Icons and Murti, incarnations, bhakti, monastics, prostrations, incense, mantra meditation/noetic prayer, saints/sages, angles/devas. I don't think you can call most types of Hinduism “pagan” at least not anymore. Maybe a long time ago but it seems to have gone beyond the old school paganism into something more philosophical and with an eagerness to really know God. I would finally say, just try and devote yourself to Christ as God and see how it goes, since everyone and everything is God anyway, what's the difference, right?
There was a lot of false facts about Hinduism thrown there. Of course coming in with a bias is fine, but trying to degrade the school of Hinduism while explaining it is not really giving the Hindu faith justice. For example, calling Kali "erotic" or calling sects of Hinduism a cult. Also, the same way there are different schools of thought in Christianity, there are a lot (well really a lot more) schools of thought in Hinduism as well. For instance, I am from a Hindu sect of monothesists. When discussing other religions, it's important to be respectful! Thanks for reading, good luck Kyle :D
Also something I forgot to mention that is imperative is the misrepresentation of the caste system, how Darrid mentioned that women cannot attain salvation, which is not true at all, and that finally Maya doesn't mean that gaining knowledge is impossible, it simply means that we will never know the true extent of the universe, its impossible to grasp the full depth of such knowledge in our belief. These threeI just wanted to state now (there were a LOT more false statements), but these seemed to tick me off the most since its usually someone's Anti-Hindu argument. Okay have a blessed day :)
Christmas being on December 25 because of paganism is a very dumb argument, but I don't think David understands how the Julian Calendar works... Christmas isn't in January on the Old Calendar. It's on December 25. But December 25th on the Julian falls in January on the Western Gregorian Calendar, and will continue to be later every century, because they're drifting apart due to the accounting of leap years.
There is are threads of truth in every religion, but Christianity is the only one with the complete truth revealed by the living God. Thanks for another great video Kyle!

about the Christmas dates the councils never set the exact day for Christmas or the calculation of that Date, only the Date of Easter was set by the council (the use of the Julian calendar) the birth of Christ wasn't even in the winter time but in the summer/spring time so to say that Julian Calendar is the correct historical calendar is wrong. The Julian calendar doesn't take into account the leap year so that is why the date differs compared to the Gregorian calendar. Technically we all celebrate Christmas on the same day but because of the calendar not taking into account the leap year the date has shifted slowly by 13 days. i would think that it would be best to unite Christmas because it is not about the exact day he was born as said before but about Christians celebrating that he was born. God bless you all
Hey Kyle or any EO reading. This is a bit off topic (great conversation) Currently I’m in a position where I no longer can be Protestant, at least by the general idea of it as I don’t align with its theology. I’m unconvinced with RC which has lead me to EO. My major hold up is the idea that all of my friends and family or those outside of the EO church cannot have salvation. This is obviously more emotional but still a major block for me. The common answer I’ve received is, “we know where the Holy Spirit is but not where it is not.” This for whatever reason doesn’t satisfy my mind. I struggle to understand how these great believers who profess Christ and do many great works in his name are simply rejected from salvation. I’ve heard from some EO that do believe people are saved outside of the EO church but it doesn’t seem to be the common understanding or teaching. Are there any resources you could point me to that deals with this issue more extensively? I don’t feel it would be right for me to convert if I disagreed with such a prominent EO teaching unless I could be shown it was theologically consistent to believe people could be saved outside of the EO church. I would greatly appreciate any help as my mind is very burdened by this.
I’ve been exactly where you are now, man. The best thing to do is speak with your local Orthodox priest about these issues. I would also highly recommend the video “How Should We Treat the Non-Orthodox?” By Orthodox Wisdom. It’s a brief reading of Fr. Seraphim Rose’s excellent, nuanced, and loving take on this issue. May God guide you.
@@Cybercrapper28 Thank you! I will check that video out. Also, I have been meaning to go to an Orthodox Church but the closest one to me is several hours away so I haven’t gotten around to it, though it’s not really an excuse.

Eastern religions: attaining moksha / nirvana means merge into the same universal soul energy just like it will happen at the end when universe stops expanding and eventually collaps into singularity.
The word "deity" ("deva"; "devata") in both the Vedas & Buddhism refer to higher potentials/powers. For example, in the Vedas, the physical elements of earth, fire & water are types of "devata". In Buddhism, deities are people with higher powers, such as mystics with psychic powers, kings, parents in relation to children, etc. The orthodox guy in the video is caught up in materialistic superstition, believing deities in Buddhism are like Christian angels with wings.

You can leave it you are free to do everything
But does Christianity do that?
No it doesn't, it bounds you with your religion, you are not free.
Alsoyou need to do more research on hinduism to say anything about it
It is so vast

What do you mean by that analogy?
Their subjective experience about reality makes it confusing and life meaningless (Nihilism)
@masgozaimas sounds like to me he is trying to say, it has some good true values that you can establish your moral framework on but there isn't anything actually spiritual to work with. Or the other way around
Theravada Buddhism is great for moral development. The problem is you will get nothing that spiritually develops you.
The yews are toxic, weak and create many forms of false beauty.
Buddhism doesn't teach that desires are bad, it teaches that desiring something you can't have is bad. Which it is because desiring something you can't have will only lead to suffering or worse, criminal behaviour as an attempt to claim it.
So to abandon any desire to escape suffering is a logical conclusion of this world view

The New Agers have the worst of both worlds: embracing the worse aspects of eastern religions (incoherent metaphysics and theology) while discarding the best parts of eastern religions (the self-denial aspects), retaining the worse aspects of Western religions (promoting mindless hedonism) and discarding the best aspects (any structured theology so they can embrace vague amorphous empty "spirituality" (read: drug fueled emotional ecstasy masquerading as an empty so called "spirituality.")
western religions promotes mindless hedonism? i thought hedonism comes from secularism.
@@reigenlucilfer6154 Well, western religions don't promote hedonism to the degree that secular humanism does. Catholics and especially Protestants don't put an emphasis on denying the pleasures of the flesh. Muslims (especially here in the west) are very hedonistic. The Catholic Church technically have it in their doctrine but don't put any emphasis on it.
well said.

@@OrthodoxKyle Awesome! Appreciate the response. Really hope you can do a debate with those youtubers too. They are very arrogant about how "dumb" christianity is, and its painful to hear. A very literalist view of the world.
Hello, ex JW here, I'm curious about why you chose orthodoxy, and a little bit of your experience
So many love the atheist route.
as a buddhist this may genuinely be the single worst explanation and refutation of buddhism😭

Still not used to bearded Kyle lol. God bless brother
I’m going to an Orthodox Church as soon as I can drive by myself my Protestant church has changed too many things.
A human cannot erase their ego to become God
also, what you mean by "energy" is not the same as the orthodox energy

Interesting fact: In the mandarin Chinese translation of the Bible the word 'logos' is translated to the character 'dao' (yes, the same character used for the religion of daoism)
Why is Vaishnavism better than Shaivism in your opinion?

What's really funny is that this guy's criticism of Eastern Religion fits into two categories.
a) based on strawman
b) Apply to Christianity
6:20 Correct me if I'm wrong, but Maya doesn't seem to say the material world doesn't exist, it's when you seek goodness from the material world and not the "eternal world", when you confuse the soul's purse of happiness to the body..... Christians also have a similar view.
6:50 you believe in an
immaterial soul too I assume, so what applies to them but doesn't for you?
7:20 Transcendental Arguments suck from my experience.
12:20 that only gives a weak pragmatic argument for what to believe, not what actually is true or more likely to be true.
That seems like an over-simplification of that concept of desire in Buddhism. Clearly Buddhism teaches that virtue and charity are good things to do.
most if not all christian criticisms of other religions are based on strawmans or can be directly applied to christianity
In Christianity only God is Eternal
So with that said the Christian soul is anything but immaterial it is dependent on the conjugation of the Spirit and the Body(creation). This is logically perfect because after all the soul is created, unlike God who was not created and Eternal.
Depends who you talk to about the transcendental argument for God or what from.
Jay Dyer’s argument or Matt slick and Dark Dawkins argument
@reigenlucilfer6154 the idea of gods in buddhism is closer to that of angels
What you just said makes no sense. Something that emanates is by definition generating/creating
There is probably no creator, so you do not need to look for equivalents to that.
@@Nexus-jg7ev nah that’s less likely tbh from a purely logical standpoint
@@off6848 Not creator of this world, but emanating itself into this world.

YES! I've been waiting ages for you to cover Eastern religions. God bless. ❤
I feel like the Pascal wager isn’t really a proper argument against Buddhism. Also the concept of craving being the source of all suffering, it’s not eliminating all your goals and desires it’s just saying don’t cling to anything in the world. Be in the world but not of the world.
Would you be able to make a video talking about the Moscow-Constantinople schism or the channel black atheist rants?

@@melkoteright! I love how this guy just assumes he can absolutely refute an entire religion
@@SOURJDADDY also why do these guys sexualize everything related to hinduism?🤣🤣🤣

I’m not sure why we have to attack other religions. You can believe what you want and lets others believe what they want.
The only people who will be going to heaven are Christian’s. We should not let people lead themselves to hell. We shouldn’t attack them but we should attack the ideas of their religion in a peaceful and respectful manner.
No. This isbnot attacking. Their religions are wrong. They are not denying that people CAN worship these, they are showing why we shouldn't.
A debate is a healthy thing but we mustn't straw man or be disingenuous in our debates.
These topics are very difficult to speak on and I understand your position. Just remember we are not perfect and we should take the log out of our own eye before taking the moat out of our brothers eye.

about the Christmas dates the councils never set the exact day for Christmas or the calculation of that Date, only the Date of Easter was set by the council (the use of the Julian calendar) the birth of Christ wasn't even in the winter time but in the summer/spring time so to say that Julian Calendar is the correct historical calendar is wrong.
This is a bit off topic (great conversation)
Currently I’m in a position where I no longer can be Protestant, at least by the general idea of it as I don’t align with its theology.
I’m unconvinced with RC which has lead me to EO.
My major hold up is the idea that all of my friends and family or those outside of the EO church cannot have salvation. This is obviously more emotional but still a major block for me.
The common answer I’ve received is, “we know where the Holy Spirit is but not where it is not.”
This for whatever reason doesn’t satisfy my mind.

Eastern religions: multiple path to one truth. Chistinity and islam forbid multiple path to same truth.
Eastern religion: do not greed for heaven nor have fear for hell. Whereas they rely on either of these two.
Eastern religions: need not necessarily rely on one book or set of few book. Whereas these two heavily rely on one/set of few books. Without quoting books they can not make arguments.
Eastern religions: adaptive to change of human society over time. Whereas these two are rigid in nature. Questing is forbidden. Galileo find it hard way.
Eastern religions : do not use derogatory term for other people having diffferent believe. Whereas these two use words like pagan, barbaric, kafir for people having different set of belive from them.
Reincarnation: soul is life energy and energy neither created nor destroyed. It transformed from one form to other form by word done by the system or on the system.
Soul never born neither dies. Its transmigrate from one life to other life by cycles of rebirth. Govern by karma (action done by individual in life= work done)
Universe is made up of energy and at the end everything with collaps into.
Eastern religions: attaining moksha / nirvana means merge into the same universal soul energy just like it will happen at the end when universe stops expanding and eventually collaps into singularity.
