  • A short video showing two of my homemade Yagi-Uda antennas for 70cm. One el-cheapo (actually free) wooden 7 element and a much better built 10 element.

Hi john, I have built an 8 element, but dont use a coax matching stub, my reflector is a lot closer to the driven element which drops the impedence down to 50 Ohms.
Mine is made using connecting block (chocolate block) to secure the Stainless steel elements above the boom.
Its great fun when you build up simple yagis. I'm now in the process of building a pre-amp as my ICOM IC290 isnt as sensitive as modern radios but is extreemly well filtered and screened inside.
They built them well back then.
Thanks for the Video 73 and hope to work you on 70cms
    Cheers Mark

  • @W1RMD

Very nice! I'm curious about the 4:1 balun. I thought that folded dipoles had a 300 ohm impedance, so a 4:1 would make it 75 ohms, which is probably fine. I've used 75 ohm cable a lot on 2 meters and above with no issues myself. Or do you match the 75 ohm to 50 with a matching section. 73's W1RMD.

I reckon it should Be Made From Copper.
I have Accumulated A HUGE Deal Of Copper and I'm making antennas from it, i have large wires, pipes, wires, rods, all diameters n stuff. :)
if you are a HAM, always collect copper like that because steel IS NOT THE SAME.
