Although he certainly honors the writer of the song who died in that helicopter accident, Dimash has said he originally became aware of it when he heard the story of Gregory Lemarchal, the riveting young talent show contestant with cystic fibrosis who won France TV's "Star Academy" in 2004 by brilliantly singing, dancing and acting week after week with less than 25 percent of his lung capacity. Shortly before dying in the hospital at the age of 23 while awaiting a lung transplant, Gregory twice performed that French-Canadian rock opera song from the 1970's live in front of emotional French audiences. The first line of the song translates to "Why do I live, why do I die?" Meanwhile in Kazakhstan, music obsessed 10-year-old Dimash was captivated by Gregory's story and was inspired to learn the song. Then in 2018, Dimash's closest friend, champion Kazak Olympic figure skater, Denis Ten, was murdered at the age of 25 attempting to prevent hooligans from stealing items off of his car. Dimash's passionate performances of "SOS" at every concert are largely in tribute to Gregory and Denis. Below is Gregory's version sung before a live audience--most of whom knew he was fighting a losing battle--just shortly before he died. After his passing, Gregory's family started an organization dedicated to improving the lives of cystic fibrosis sufferers and their families by providing information, funding research, and increasing public awareness of cystic fibrosis. th-cam.com/video/GGb0Sb5lvu4/w-d-xo.html

Taken from a comment out there: There are good singers who sing very well. But Dimash is music incarnate and he plays himself. Dimash lights up the planet with his voice!
    Bravo Dimash!! (again) 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐

This song is a pearl of the French songbook is a Canadian-French cyberpunk-rock opera called Starmania, written in 1976 by Michel Berger (France) and with lyrics by Luc Plamondon (Canada) and immortalized in the voices of Daniel Balavoine, Diane Dufresne and Grégory Lemarchal. The song's theme is depression: In the 2021 version, Dimash faithfully and brilliantly presents a sentimental and melancholy interpretation! As the singing decisions follow the original structure of the song, which serves to show the psychological instability of the distressed character: From chest voice to head voice and then falsetto, the author aimed to show a broad need to win a long of desperation and the need to reach a very high perspective! Dimash, currently in his concerts, dedicates this song to his friends and acquaintances who left this world!
