This video was a HUGE help, gave me a real boost of confidence and upped my comfort level. We're starting our THOW wall framing tomorrow. Thanks for all the effort that goes into this footage, it makes a real difference for those of us less experienced!!
Dan Excellent video once again. I envy your building skills, you make it look so easy. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see the rest of the build.
No probs brother! I just re-watched your whole video framing series again to re-fresh my memory and to make sure i do it all right! That's what i have been grinding on tonight.. Studying wall framing lol
I totally love the way the camera causes your lumber to be curved. I build with alot of used lumber and sometimes it almost looks that way. I use bar clamps and a lot of blocking to straighten it out. Haha
You really should consider another video series of just carpentry and framing basics. You talk about a HUGE number of basic tricks and tips for the amateur carpenter.
Tiny House Customs Nothing specific but I'm an amateur carpenter myself and there were tons of great tips in here from the simple (hiding the imperfect edges of framing inside the frame) to necessary (2 2x4s stacked are usually not to building code). I would do a series called Carpentry Basics or something where you do shorter videos and focus one a specific topic like framing an interior and an exterior door as one, framing a window as another etc. That way if anyone is doing a weekend-warrior repair they can look you up under 'Framing a Window' and get 10-15 minutes on JUST framing a window. I'm a fan of the Tiny House movement myself and I hope to be building one within the next few years but there are far more needs for carpentry skills outside the tiny house topic. You could do TONS of these from how to properly use saws (because so many people don't know how) to ways to get good results on the cheap. Having all of your video channels linked can help grow your viewers too. Someone sees your 'Framing a Door' video, sees that you do tiny houses and now they're looking at BOTH channels. Good luck and I'll be watching!
@@TinyHouseCustoms Dan...hand nailing tips like in your floor joists part 1 video...dulling the point so it does not split the wood...the way you used a nail to support the wood in the 6 min mark in that same video...most amateur diy folks struggle to hold the piece of wood and the nail and hammer it...most of these habits must be second nature for you ..
Holy crap now that is a lot of work fixen to build my tiny house on a 8x 30 trailer that use to be a travel trailer I have leveled the trailer does it have to be perfect ?,can it be in the bubble on the level I got it strapped down with the screw type 4 each side .o how much will it cost you when done I'm figure five grand or so I'm so glad that I can refer to you're videos any tips from you would be great thank you much.
Christopher lelotte I don't think ill ever make it that far.. I don't think ill ever leave NC with it unless theres a mega Tiny House convention in Vegas on year. Thanks for watching
+Slated cause its fun to watch people build stuff. You can do it, Ive built my house 99% by myself. You can always find a few friends to give you a hand.
True :) I would LOVE to build I tiny house, but I lack some vital things, like time money and ability xD Maybe in a few years I'll come back to this, though!
the idea is simple, every time you move the house it's like having a 5.0 EarthQuake! nails and glue will become loose over time. Glue and screws using steel is better if you plan on traveling with house?
+James Robenson keep in mind your commenting on videos that are 3-4 years old. Keep watching to see all the solutions to the problems you're concerned with.
Joe Moore i used a 2x6 header. future video coming in a few weeks. i don't go over it in great deal but i will do a walk through one day going over everything that i failed to mention when i was building
Sorry bud. All future videos the cussing will be muted. But I will be incorporating more out takes into the videos. Just go back and watch NSFW again to get your fix. :)👍
No great feed back. TH-cam will end up flagging me. I would need to make them age restricted which will cut down on my over all views. You have to log in to view age restricted content and a lot of my views come from outside TH-cam.
Thanks man. I put so much time into these videos so I hope they help. Check out my FB page or instagram. I just posted a short 15sec clip of a new project I'm working on. That editing style will eventually be the new norm.

Thanks so much. Glad I'm helping.

Mark Kennedy Thanks man. spent many years doing it professionally
+Tiny House Customs Do you teach courses so people can build one themselves? I can buy one, but I would love to make a home with my own hands.
Hey Dan, this video was so helpful i had to watch it a few times. your good!
Thanks.

anyone? just me? ok.

Is there something specific you can think of?

Why does your header need to be 2/6 plywood 2/6? Leave out the plywood and you make room for insulation.
+Jim Watson There's 20 different ways to make a header. This is how i did it.
Good work buddy! If you travel with that baby near Montreal, I'd be please to see you ;)
Christopher lelotte I don't think ill ever make it that far.. I don't think ill ever leave NC with it unless theres a mega Tiny House convention in Vegas on year. Thanks for watching
Could pine be used instead? I mean, a soft wood wouldn't be a problem?
I live in Brazil and buying wood here is way different from buying it in the US
+Mike Canto I'm not sure. Do they have a 2x4 building material when you live?
That's all very curvy wood
Why am I watching this? It's the middle of the night and I'm an 18 year old girl with less than 0 idea of how to build a house... xD
+Slated cause its fun to watch people build stuff. You can do it, Ive built my house 99% by myself. You can always find a few friends to give you a hand.
True :) I would LOVE to build I tiny house, but I lack some vital things, like time money and ability xD Maybe in a few years I'll come back to this, though!
you can start small like a bird house. i want to build a dog house.
Now you're 22 and hopefully with a mortgage free house lom
Do you know what are the measurement of the wood beams you are using?
the idea is simple, every time you move the house it's like having a 5.0 EarthQuake! nails and glue will become loose over time. Glue and screws using steel is better if you plan on traveling with house?

Did you use 2x4’s or 2x6’s for your exterior walls? Great video!
2x4 for the walls. 2x6 for the floor and ceiling
is there any book you would recommend?
I want a lighthouse 😁
Michael W love this, I will build one
Nice video but I did not get to see how you supported the plate at the wheel well joe
Joe Moore i used a 2x6 header. future video coming in a few weeks. i don't go over it in great deal but i will do a walk through one day going over everything that i failed to mention when i was building
What wood is that you're using for the framing?
standard 2x4's are fur or spruce which are in the pine tree family.
Could pine be used instead?
I live in Brazil and buying wood here is way different from buying it in the US
Can't comment , nothing but common sense .
I know this is a rare .
OMG... why do I keep wondering about the comment "since I don;t have a blueprint.."..?!?
+Lubosh Hanuska If you know what your doing you don't need a blueprint.
Nice video. I'd like to help but I have an ass-ton of medical bills.
where you located. im in pilot mtn.
+foxracing16 Yadkinville
nice...lived in east bend for 22 years
I am highly disappointed in the lack of cussing in this segment!
Sorry bud. All future videos the cussing will be muted. But I will be incorporating more out takes into the videos. Just go back and watch NSFW again to get your fix. :)👍

Tiny House Customs Ahhh okay! Well that sucks but good luck. Have to say this is one of the most informative series I have seen on tiny houses so far.
Thanks man. I put so much time into these videos so I hope they help. Check out my FB page or instagram. I just posted a short 15sec clip of a new project I'm working on. That editing style will eventually be the new norm.
