Can you use the lidar without the focus motor? Using Sony auto focus but want the tracking.

i have the sony a7iv with 24-70 2.8. i already have great AF so my question is can i use the lidar system to TRACK Only and still use the AF from my sony?

Hey what is the Lidar? How do I find it. Also what is the rig you have when holding it? Also what is the stand/tripod you are using that is supporting you mounting the DJI rs4?
I noticed you added letterbox. Is that because the tracking feature leaves too much headroom?

Do you have any direct conexions to the camera? I'm new but I love this idea; it's just that I have a FX30 and it's not on the compatibility list. If I don't need to plug the camera to anything else, I'd get it today. Thank you
Please do a Red camera set up video. Not just with the KX but with the OG Komodo like you show here. I’ve got the RS4 Pro and struggle to get a decent set up with the Komodo & larger lenses. My batteries barely clear the gimbal when balanced.
This is sick!! Will this work on regular auto focus lenses aswell? Like a sigma 24mm? I'd mainly want this for the tracking function!

Would be so cool for a gimbal company to have an auto balance feature.
I have the DJI Ronin 4D and am able to use the same tracking without the lidar module. The lidar is only for autofocus, so if you look at the new lidar module that you got, the camera on the left is what is doing the subject tracking and the lidar is only for pulling focus. I would be interested to see the max distance the new module can follow an object with the smaller sensor compared to the full frame sensor of the Ronin 4D. On the 4D I was able to track f-16 and f-35 fighter jets at an airshow for about 2-3 miles before they got lost in the clouds.

If the subject moves out of frame, like a car driving past, is it quick to lock onto the subject again?
2:58 How were you able to save 15 lenses from the app? I only can use 3 when using the gimbal. 15 lenses only work when I use the handgrip (for handheld work).

Question! Has someone used the system to track animals? like horses etc, dogs? does it do this?
I have the rs4 and lidar but active track doesn't keep up with even slow moving subjects. I don't know what I'm doing wrong

it feels like , dJI RS4 pro with lidar , a Sony a7 iii with a sigma 35 or 50 lense is all you'll ever need mostly might add a video monitor and a matte box... mix that with a dji mavic 3 drone.... you in there ...

Out of curiosity, have you done a video with on your Komodo buildout with this gimbal? Just got my rs4pro and quickly realized I can’t have a vmount on the back of my camera on this gimbal

Great, I'm about to purchase the RS4 Pro and additionally the FOCUS PRO Creator for hand-held cameras.
I have a question, is it necessary to purchase the RS4 Pro combo that has the Raveneye transmitter? Or does the LiDar do the complete task?

I thought the RS3 did the things the RS 3 does, my RS3 does the same with the lidar and mostly use it as a ptz with the transmission monitor
Hey Justin, quick question about the DJI Combo Kits you bought. So did you get the DJI RS4 Pro Combo and the LiDAR separately? Did you get any other accessories/kits separate to this?
I was going to get the LiDAR with the Pro Grip, so I had that as an option to shoot freehand with the LiDAR on different types of shoot (just saw you explain you lock the gimbal and shoot freehand that way, which is great for events, but maybe not some of the less reactive shoots).
But then I saw the Focus Pro Creator kit which combines the LiDAR and Pro Grip kits together. Which had me thinking "Do I need to get the RS4 Pro Combo kit now or just the RS4 Pro kit?"
All I can see I would miss out on is the image transmitter (I have a Ninja V, so not sure I would use this??) and the Extended Lower Plate.
I am so confused in this DJI labyrinth of accessory combos. Currently talking with DJI support and they aren't understanding. I need some HELP, cheers
Hey. It sounds like you’ll almost need both. The gimbal and lidar is great for gimbal work but if you think you’ll be handheld more in general than you’d want the focus pro. That make sense?

It was just figuring out whether it was better to buy the non-combo RS4 Pro plus the Focus Pro Creator to not have duplicate focus motors or to just accept the extra cost and extra focus motor to get the Raveneye transmitter, which I wasn't sure I needed if having the LiDAR run focus and tracking. Do you use the Raveneye alongside the LiDAR? And if so, what purpose does it serve? Anything other than transmitting the image to a phone or tablet?

Awesome video bro. I've used the tracking feature with the RavenEye, on both my new RS4 Pro and older RS3, and it kinda sucks. Not super smooth, and struggles to keep people well centered. This lidar tracking looks so much better.
I would appreciate it immensely if you'd do a test on limitations of tracking. Specially at what focal length does it stop tracking. Like if I'm tracking someone far away at 200mm would it still work? It'd make a great short :D
my rs4 pro does not show the image on the gimbal anymore but i see the white tracking boxes on a black screen, is that a problem with the gimbal or my camera?
are you using the dji provided cables? I don't think you can use just any usb-c's.

There was a few shots that showed the gimbal screen while I was walking. Or do you mean using the gimbal in a real world scenario and tracking?

For the ecosystem, if I get just the Lidar, I can use the tracking/focus with the rs3pro I have or is that an rs4pro exclusive?

Great video man!... but how the hell do you balance that rig, the great joy makes my set up too front heavy. I'm using the komodo x and I have to add weights to the back but still isn't perfectly balanced. Also, how are you attaching the v mount to the side? Cheers man
When is the focus pro creator combo going to be available though? DJI still hasn’t released it yet for us regular people to buy yet.
I have no idea. My honest opinion is to pre order it. My buddy ordered his though the site and already got it.

I've tried this at a recent wedding and I will say I am impressed, the downside is that it is heavy af for a 6K Pro user to be using all day.
Yea but I’d say the weight is the camera package not the gimbal. The gimbal is pretty descent but rigged up things get outta hand haha

This was a really helpful, in-depth review of the new DJI RS4 Pro gimbal. The awesome demonstration of all of the features and comparing it to previous models. The improved autofocus tracking with the LiDAR system looks extremely useful. I also liked that the gimbal is compatible with accessories from older models.
Can this lidar work on RS3 Pro?

not worth the squeeze for a wedding scenario. Modern mirrorless can keep up enough without all this extra gear setup. Also unpopular opinion, the anamorphic doesn't seem as good as the footage of regular lenses.
I am afraid I cannot agree with you, anamorphic seems not to match this usage very appropriately, but you can use old vintage lenses to creative more specific vision than the so-called well-made modern lenses. Such as idiot-sharp Sigma
