Don't pass up The Division Bell, it is one of the best start to finish albums ever. I have listened to that album well over 10000 times, it has been the last thing I hear before sleep and the first thing i hear in the morning literally on repeat since 1994 give or take a few nights when I want some Peter Gabriel, Elton John or Bob Segar but 8 out of 10 nights its Division Bell. Put it on your list, you wont be disappointed.
Great to see your appreciation for this!!! I was fortunate to see Pink Floyd on this Pulse tour at The Alamodome in San Antonio in 1994. There were 47,000 fans and I had 18th row seats on the floor!! An experience of a lifetime. Also previously saw them in 1987 in Austin. Your comment about this "speaking to your soul" is my exact same feeling also.
Great reaction bud, Floyd is on another level all together! Gilmour wrote the music and together with his wife Polly Samson, they wrote the lyrics. Polly Samson wrote parts of the lyrics of quite a few Pink Floyd songs, post Roger Waters. Nightwish did a great job covering this song, they didn't completely change everything like some artists do when covering a song from legendary band. Kudos to them. This Pulse Concert is phenomenal, as are all Pink Floyd live performances, "The Wall" being at the top of the list of live Rock performances by any Rock Band, the Wall is a Rock Opera! The Pulse Show also has one of the finest live performances of the "The Dark Side Of The Moon" album I've ever heard! The WHOLE album, in order, as it was originally meant to be listened to. Looking forward to more Pulse Concert songs, "Sorrow", and "Money" come to mind immediately,.... among others! lol!
Loved your reaction my Brother. I’m much older than you, but we have the same soul. I do have a hard time picking my favourite PF song, there are so many amazing songs, but this one and On the Turning Away have to be my top two. The last one being the live version from 1984 (I Think)? If you get a chance react to that one also. Really enjoy your reactions. Cheers from Canada 🎉😎🎸🇨🇦
Pink Floyd is the Greatest live performing band in recorded music history. They are the undisputed God's of meshing musical with the visual. All to maximize and amplify the emotion in the music.
subbed! your comment at 3:48..."all around perfection..." made me press the subscribe button! i know this is a month ago, but i hope you have more Pulse reactions..."Run Like Hell" to name just one...lol...
Do yourself a favour and give a listen to High Hopes at the Live in Gdańsk concert. I’m positive you will enjoy it. The Polish nation symphony is accompanying. Love your reactions. Enjoy your Pink Floyd journey. Strap in. It’s a hell of an enjoyable ride.
On your request I listened to your reaction of the Nightwish version. This was my first Nightwish-time ever, and I was not disappointed, so Thank You for the tip!
That was a great reaction to a great song CR. Agreed on what you said and the Floyd is also one of the best bands of all time, such emotions you get from them.
Division Bell is what Parliament does to open their discussion of ideas/ Hence: the direction of the band with Roger Waters. As the part will the band still be able. YES ! Lyrics by Dave, Polly and Rick Wright. Not one bad song on this concert. This was their last with 14 days in a row sold out. Saw 5 times, 200,000 watts of power, 4 sets of 32 wireless speakers. Disco ball is a FU to music critics saying they wouldn't make it cause they don't make 4 min. dance songs
All great music transcends its original little inspiration. By the time “High Hopes” hits the ear, it’s not about anyone in particular. It’s just a dream of something about life - an inscrutable mystery. That’s why it goes to the subconscious and wrings such depth of feeling from anyone who hears it. No popular group ever understood this subliminal truth about Music better than Pink Floyd. Think their music’s about a band member who lost his mind? Think again. 😎
I've seen the Nightwish version. It ain't bad but it doesn't top this. This song rivals anything they've ever done, imo. Gilmour never sounded or played better. Classic Floyd. The song was co-written by Gilmour and his literary wife, author Polly Samson.
Just wanted to share a little story re: High Hopes. It was released on the Division Bell (1994), and played on the Pulse Tour. I saw them in Foxboro, MA, on this tour in 1995. Good song, but later as I played it, it became very emotional for me. I can get very emotional listening to all their songs, but this song is the only PF song that brings me to tears, every time I hear it. I love watching first reactions to this song, and it seemed to me, you were very moved after hearing the studio version. Of course nothing competes with the live performance. p.s. If you watch the live concert they did in Gdansk (2008), the last concert Rich Wright played before he passed, David plays a very moving guitar ending after he switches back from the great solo on the sitting guitar, which is hard to hear in the Pulse Concert. It's also the last time David played Echoes, after which he said he would never play Echoes again, because Rich is gone.
I was going to say the same. I am perfectly okay with Polly writing the lyrics. I don’t believe that David had no role in writing the lyrics, I think he was just fine with giving her complete credits. But either way, she knows him better than anyone. He wouldn’t be singing those words if they didn’t represent him, his feelings, the spirit of the music. Polly is also the one who got him his famous Hendrix guitar strap, the one with the X pattern that he has worn for the last 20 years. She’s no Yoko, I consider her a huge part of Pink Floyd and David’s legacy.
The lyrics are co-written by David Gilmour and Polly Sampson. Obviously the thoughts and sentiments Dave's with Polly giving it the requisite poetic flair we've come to expect from Pink Floyd. This song stands right up there alongside anything they've ever done in their heyday, in my book.
This is definitely one of the best Pink Floyd songs from the David Gilmour led era.
It’s one of the only listenable ones. Even a blind hen finds a corn every now and then.

That lap steel in David's hands is so freaking awesome! Gives me chills!

I saw this at Earles Court in 94. To this day the best gig I have ever attended.

Totally agree, touches my soul as well.
A great track
Floyd Are In Town
Spiritual journey begins....
...but if you want to hear an amazing track written by David alone try Sorrow from the Pulse concert, it's wonderful.
Beautiful song. Haunting.

i believe it was in 2006, that he did another concert featuring acoustic instruments and a choir. One of my favorites also, but that one is stunning..

Awesome 😁 they did an outstanding tribute to Pink Floyd 👏
Wow!

I too get very emotional with music. A few songs on this channel have already made me tear up lol
Great song, quick fact: the lyrics on this one, and most of the Division Bell album were written by David's wife, author and poet Polly Samson.
