The offense didn't help much....far to many times they left the D in a bad spot. Ultimately, the defense has to do it's job but again, the offense had too many turnovers, too many 3 and outs.
We were the only P5 team with 3 - 100+ tacklers in Martin, Daniels, and Rucker. We also allowed the lowest percentage of positive field position in the nation. First half and long plays are what killed us on defense, but I think that Nardo has figured out a lot at this point to make adjustments quicker in the games and the players have matured enough that we can cut down significantly on the long plays.
It seems that the hate on OKstate revolves around Bowman - a 7th year vet qb who stayed healthy all last year, and the vulnerability to long balls. Most defensive schemes take a few seasons to really come to fruition. I expect the defense will make some great strides this year.
@@RT-iy9pu Yeah that’s pretty interesting. Typically the teams that rise to the top have great-to-elite QB play, so that could be why oddsmakers are not sold on the Pokes.
@@bleavinokstate @RT-iy9pu Alan Bowman threw for more yards last season than any of the other XII QBs have in any of their seasons (at P5, *Shedeur), while being on the same team as the nations leading rusher. He is a 7th year player that has experience from high level offenses in Tech and Michigan, he is also 1 of only 2 current (21 all time) QBs with a 600+ yard game. This will be his second year in our system and Gundy has always been adamant that QBs need a full year to fully grasp our offense.

The defense last year was frustrating to watch but did show some glimpses. I'm optimistic for Coach Nardo's second season.
