Nandi's stick work is quite amazing, but I also love listening to her kick drum; she seems to easily master quite complex kick-drum patterns and execute them very precisely but with real power.
Nandi's You Tube pages have some amazing drum covers; most notable for me are her covers of Rush's Tom Sawyer ("Peace & Respect Mr Peart!" she says at the end), and of Tool's Forty Six & 2 - both done when she was twelve. Also her multi-instrument (and voice) rendition of The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter as a tribute to Charlie Watts - all done on a looper which she controls herself. And there's also her recent Drumeo session where she was invited to come up with her own interpretation of the drum part to Twisted Sister's We're Not Gonna Take It.
Critics of her performance of Caravan point out that she's not using a jazz grip on the left hand stick, which means there's less subtlety to her rendition than would be the case if she were a "proper" jazz drummer. Well I'm not a drummer, and although I get what they're saying, nevertheless, I like Nandi's energetic rock drumming interpretation of the piece very much. That's what music is about surely; trying different approaches and styles to come up with something engaging!

Thanks for your insights and just on the last bit of what you said; a grip is a grip, if the accenting is the same and the sticking matches I don’t see the difference haha, she is really good, I was so surprised!

Nandi Bushell is a British(Dad) and Zulu African(Mom) child prodigy who seriously began drumming at age five. She was born in Durban, South Africa and currently resides in Ipswich, UK. She has become a multi-instrumental artist(guitar, bass, saxophone, piano and drums) At age 11, she played Everlong with the Foo Fighters(The Forum in Los Angeles). Again, age 12, she played Learn to Fly at the Tribute to Taylor Hawkins at Wembley, UK. She also wrote The Shadows where she performed all the instruments.(th-cam.com/video/p4XyA7pAauA/w-d-xo.html) Would be interested in your reaction to Drumeo's; Nandi Bushell Hears Twisted Sister For The First Time

Check out Matt Helders, drummer, of the Arctic Monkeys, Jam Session at Nandi's home. (th-cam.com/video/XDpVf4vEKFk/w-d-xo.html) & (th-cam.com/video/5hcnPtFQEbE/w-d-xo.html) The black kit was gifted to Nandi from Anderson .Paak and the mahogany kit was gifted to her by Lenny Kravitz and Nate Smith.

Those are not triplets. I'm pretty sure this is 9/8 time. There's a quarter note pulse, emphasizing beats 1, 2, 3, & 4 of each measure. It's also played with a swing feel and emphasizes the offbeat eighth notes (the “and” of each beat) while keeping that quarter note pulse. Those patters of 3 you kind of hear are the repeating odd time signature and syncopated hits which are those accented notes that fall between the main beats. I'll also add, I'm not enough of an accomplished drummer to pull it off on a kit. I probably over-explained. Sorry. Point is, those are not triplets you hear. Oh and Nandi is dedicated and talented beyond words. Incredible girl. Go watch her vid playing live with Foo Fighters.
