No matter how much experience or how little experience one has, accidents do happen and I for one have done it to myself on day one of a 5 day hunting trip. Yep, rotate the fish as you fillet it so you are always cutting away from you. If the fish falls off the table jut let it fall, don't try to grab it (ask me how I know that😅). I'm glad everyone is doing better! It's nice to see you and your brother working together.😁

I've been doing wound care for a family member for years and can handle blood and all that jazz, but the motion of the swipe towards your hand and the initial cut made my body Cringe so hard lol. Seeing the open wound wasn't even bad for me, but good Lawd that swipe nearly made me barf. Glad you got the quick help and are on your way to recovery. Prayers up for the family as always. One HORRIFIC wound - & right on about the larcenous US healthcare. At this point, anymore, & as long as there's no tendons cut or excessive dirt/debris in the wound, I just stitch it up myself. Got bit in the same part of the the hand by a poorly socialized badly abused Shepard-mix rescue my son in law was rehabbing. Opened up a good sized vessel between thumb & pointer & wouldn't stop bleeding, so out came the thread & needle. I stitched & my son in law tied them off - SEVEN stitches.
I reached into a bucket on the fishing boat looking for pliers and it has a damn fillet knife pointing up. I slid my hand right past that knife and got cut in the same spot. Blood everywhere and it hurt like hell! Great video gabe, oh yea Kelly cracks me up .

Didn't get cut by a knife but I did about cut my pinky finger off! Surgeon who reattached said I cut perfectly between the knuckle (closest to hand) no bone damage. Like cuttin a chicken leg from the thigh. 85% of the finger was off. HOW? replacing my trolling motor on the boat (bow mount). Didn't know it was in the on (position #5) when I walked by it and my hand bumped it.
Gabe love yours and Kelly's vids...but I have to say, she won the show early on! Back in 1974 I was peeling sugar cane...the wrong way, thats when I was told by granddad not to cut towards myself. Sliced my thumb open with my brand new Case knife I had spent hours sharping. Still carry that scar and always reminded. Been a few times I forgot and got sliced, but I know it happens.

I would suggest slowing it down when filleting next time or wearing a cut resistant glove.
I agree. Cut resistant gloves are also great for cleaning oysters and other shellfish, and cost a lot less than a trip to the emergency room!

You can never talk too much about Gun & Knife handling safety for adults as well as our younger sportsmen out there. It’s so easy to get careless when you’re doing something regularly like hunting, shooting & cleaning fish and game. It’s a good thing, you throwing in a video every now & then on the importance of safety first in all things. But especially gun & knife handling safe practices. Good job Gabe👍🏼

Ciguatera fish poisoning is nasty and it comes from the toxins in over 400 fish from tropical and subtropical fish called, Ichthyosarcotoxism. As far as the possible bacterial you more than likely got into that wound, most common are:
Streptococcus iniae bacteria,
Mycobacterium(comes from simply handling fish), Erysipelothrix, Campylobacter, Aeromonas, Vibrio, Edwardsiella, Escherichia, Salmonella, Klebsiella and Streptococcus iniae…….

One HORRIFIC wound - & right on about the larcenous US healthcare. At this point, anymore, & as long as there's no tendons cut or excessive dirt/debris in the wound, I just stitch it up myself. Got bit in the same part of the the hand by a poorly socialized badly abused Shepard-mix rescue my son in law was rehabbing. Opened up a good sized vessel between thumb & pointer & wouldn't stop bleeding, so out came the thread & needle. I stitched & my son in law tied them off - SEVEN stitches.
I reached into a bucket on the fishing boat looking for pliers and it has a damn fillet knife pointing up. I slid my hand right past that knife and got cut in the same spot. Blood everywhere and it hurt like hell! Great video gabe, oh yea Kelly cracks me up .

Didn't get cut by a knife but I did about cut my pinky finger off! Surgeon who reattached said I cut perfectly between the knuckle (closest to hand) no bone damage. Like cuttin a chicken leg from the thigh. 85% of the finger was off. HOW? replacing my trolling motor on the boat (bow mount). Didn't know it was in the on (position #5) when I walked by it and my hand bumped it.
Gabe love yours and Kelly's vids...but I have to say, she won the show early on! Back in 1974 I was peeling sugar cane...the wrong way, thats when I was told by granddad not to cut towards myself. Sliced my thumb open with my brand new Case knife I had spent hours sharping. Still carry that scar and always reminded. Been a few times I forgot and got sliced, but I know it happens.
