  • I show you how to do the pivot in boxing footwork or fighting footwork. The pivot is a common boxing footwork technique perfect for turning your body to get new angles for attacking or to create angles for evading your opponent's attacks (basically for defensive purposes). All you need to know are some basic tips and then you'll be free to pivot as little or as much as you need to throw or avoid punches. Also I include some footwork tricks to help you find creative ways to use the pivot in a fight.
    00:00 - Intro
    00:06 - Basic technique for pivot
    00:18 - Small or big pivot on the back foot
    00:40 - Big pivot on the front foot
    01:46 - How to pivot on the right side
    02:05 - Go away
    02:17 - Don't focus on the spinning, focus on your feet

I'm a writer and I honestly think that this video especially is going to be huge for a scene I have in mind. I think I'm actually understanding how this footwork thing works. Plus, now I have something fun to add to my workout routine. :)

    Hi Johnny! I just want to say thank you for sharing on all this important information. You have a lot of great knowledge on the craft of boxing/western boxing. With your permission, would it be possible on showing a video on the different type of footwork for boxing and Bruce Lee's art of Jeet Kune Do? That would be a great topic to share. Continue success!

    • @expertboxing
      @expertboxing  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      TheInsider2011 I have several videos showing footwork. Each one focusing on different aspects. I never learned anything from Bruce Lee or Jeet Kune do so I have no comment on that. I do know however that a lot of his footwork comes from boxing.

  • @victorcuevas1735

    When do you plant your foot fully on the ground and only step on your toes? I see some upper cuts with the back foot on the toes and is the minority of the weight on the leading leg or the back leg most of the time?

    Hey Johnny I have a big question for you? Since this world is so big do you believe any two or more fighters fight exactly 100% alike or everyone has a unique way of fighting regardless? For instance like same style,skill set, techniques,movement,strategy,etc any way of fighting? If so how do you beat somebody who fights like you if you both already know what to expect?

    Johnny I watched your footwork and dodging videos but when I try using them when sparring the punches fly at my face so quickly I can't react to them in time. Also I can't stop blinking and looking away when I get hit, even when I just get tapped its like all my training goes out the window. What do I do?

    • @expertboxing
      @expertboxing  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      futsalfred2 It's typical response for a beginner. To start with, try to avoid only the most important punches. Instead of trying to outmaneuver slip everything, try slipping only the bigger punches (like right hands). Also, there's no way in hell you're going to be able to slip and move around punches when you're not fast enough to process what punches are coming at you. You'll need more time doing drills.

    • @alexbelyayev215

      Also watch for the other boxers twitches in their arms, go with your instinct

    • @CheeseCakes11944
      @CheeseCakes11944 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +futsalfred2 , you should look out for the distance and spacing rather than his jab. If your in his reach, always expect the jabs to come, move inside of our outside of the jab distance range immediately. don't stay in jab range. I don't think boxers can really sees a jab coming they only can see the opponent move forward and shift bodyweight, you should counterpunch immediately as if there was a jab coming regardless.
      Spend more time doing slow motion and very soft sparring with friendly partners, it helps train your eyes on distancing, otherwise you'll loose too many brain cells before the competition.

    • @skarnica
      @skarnica 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hassan Ahmed Keep practicing bro, you'll build up endurance for your punches. You should also possibly try to train your shoulders' endurance. Maybe do shoulder raises / lifts, it'll help keep your arms, elbows and shoulders up for a longer period of time, which would help you throw more punches.
