Christian nationalism, as championed by figures like Joel Webbon, often merges a distorted understanding of Christianity with a revisionist view of American history. These individuals claim to be the spiritual heirs of the revolutionary-era Christians who rebelled against British rule. They use this narrative to justify their current political goals, including harsh stances on immigration and a quest for cultural dominance. However, this interpretation of history and theology misrepresents both the teachings of Jesus and the complex nature of the American Revolution.
During the American Revolution, Christians were deeply divided. Loyalist Christians believed that rebellion against the British Crown violated biblical commands like those in Romans 13, which call for submission to governing authorities. On the other hand, some Patriot Christians used religious language to frame their rebellion as a fight for divine rights. This division highlights that the revolution was not a purely Christian movement but a mix of Enlightenment ideals, political ambition, and economic grievances, often cloaked in spiritual rhetoric. Claiming this revolutionary legacy as a definitive Christian heritage ignores the diversity of thought among believers of that era.
Christian nationalists often depict Jesus as a conquering ruler who endorses their vision of a theocratic state. This depiction contrasts sharply with the Jesus of the Gospels, who embodied humility, peace, and sacrificial love. Jesus rejected violence as a means to achieve His kingdom, as demonstrated when He rebuked Peter for drawing a sword in His defense. Rather than embracing force, Jesus taught His followers to love their enemies, turn the other cheek, and seek peace.
This portrayal of Jesus as a nationalist liberator or a divine enforcer misunderstands the nature of His mission. While the Old Testament includes narratives of conquest and judgment, the New Testament reveals the fulfillment of God’s kingdom through self-sacrifice and reconciliation. The Jesus of Christian nationalists is less a suffering servant and more a figure of divine wrath, wielded to justify political and cultural power. This vision abandons the gospel’s central message of grace and peace.
The implications of this ideology are particularly evident in attitudes toward immigration. Christian nationalists often advocate for harsh measures against undocumented immigrants, sometimes justifying these views with a distorted theology. This stance contradicts the Bible’s commands to love and care for the stranger, as seen in Leviticus and the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 25. Biblical Christianity transcends national boundaries, calling all people to unity in Christ and rejecting tribalism and exclusion.
Nationalism that prioritizes one group over others undermines the mission of the gospel. The kingdom of God is not confined to any single nation or ethnicity but is global, inclusive, and centered on Christ’s redemptive work.
The portrayal of Jesus as a militant figure enforcing political goals is a profound departure from His true character. The New Testament consistently presents Him as the Prince of Peace, who conquered through humility and love rather than force or domination. His kingdom is not of this world, and His followers are called to embody reconciliation and grace.
Conflating Christianity with nationalism not only distorts the gospel but also risks leading others into a faith rooted in power rather than the transformative love of Christ. It is crucial for believers to reject this vision and return to the authentic teachings of Jesus, who calls His followers to humility, compassion, and peace.

Bad things happen when Jesus and the Bible are used as means to an end. Instead of Jesus and His Gospel being the be all and end all of our existence. It matters not how noble or pious the ideas being advanced by CN, may sound. The very agenda is corrupt and will bear corrupt fruit.
Jesus didn’t die for a better society or a way of life. He sacrificed Himself so we can have eternal life. Everything else is a result or side effect (not the goal) of the Kingdom of God advancing on earth.

There seems to be a massive misunderstanding amongst most commenters here concerning the role of OT moral law for us today. God’s moral law is still binding on all of humanity today. (Not ceremonial law) And the consequences for sinful actions like murder and rape should absolutely be enforced even when scripture calls for capital punishment. To claim that the new covenant somehow undermines God’s law who is love is to claim that God’s own standards for holiness is unloving. Christ was the fulfillment of the ceremonial and moral law and because of our faith in him we UPHOLD the law. Romans 3

    • @timwilkins2008

No differentiation between "moral" and "ceremonial" law in the Hebrew text nor in the Newer Testament. IT is basic human morality that drives us, not some passage from Leviticus. To quote Dan McClellan: "There’s no general distinction made anywhere in the Bible between moral & ceremonial laws. The distinction of mishpatim & hukkim is a Jewish dogma about whether or not a law has a discernible rationale. You don’t know the Bible & are just naively asserting postbiblical dogmas." th-cam.com/video/A3EXMNAEjgU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AuKaz82w54TXB7dF

    • @Descriptor_
      @Descriptor_ 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @ You sound angry.
Secondly, you are right that scripture does not make a explicit distinction between the types of laws but that does not mean they are not there. The same thing is true of the trinity. It is pretty plain to see that there are laws (ceremonial) that foreshadow the arrival, life, death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.
This is why when gentiles are grafted into the kingdom of God they are never once charged with needing to follow all of the customary Jewish practices and “ceremonial” laws. They are however charged with following all of God’s moral laws and therefore making a distinction between the two.

The church tells us that murder is wrong, and the scriptures are the only sound foundation. The punishment is prescribed by the scripture, but ultimately, the state must decide, and it is the state that administers the punishment. Christians can and should speak into the state and push God's standard to be the state's standard. The state will legislate some form of morality, and I'd prefer it to be Christian seeing as how it honors God and all.

While they portray Jesus as a militant enforcer supporting their agenda, the Bible reveals Him as the Prince of Peace who rejected violence and called His followers to love their enemies. Early Christian worship focused on humility, simplicity, and unity, not nationalistic power.
Their stance on issues like immigration, driven by exclusion and harshness, contradicts Scripture’s clear commands to love the stranger and care for the vulnerable. Christianity transcends national borders and earthly politics, centering on Christ’s kingdom, which is not of this world. He made a video condemning the adulteress in Proverbs for being a "career woman" even though the passage implies she used her husband's money for all her shenanigans. Proverbs 7:10-23. It's the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 who helps with the breadwinning. (Her husband is proud of her.)

And they wonder why people are walking - no, RUNNING - away from the church in droves. Because of false "Christians" like this "pastor"! He better repent or he's going to find out on that day just how much Jesus appreciated his "ministry"!!

Exactly. People are running away from things like this.

They don't care. In their view, anyone who leaves the church because it has become a house of hate was never a Christian to begin with.

Y'all are blind. The Antioch statement wasn't written because people are running from Joel. It's because they are running to him. Joel is spot on. You all live in a fantasy land where you think a secular government ought not be informed by the word of God. The job of the church is to preach the gospel to all. The job of the state is to protect its people. The state will legislate morality, and as the church should inform that. For a nation to uphold God's standard is honoring to God and a mercy to the people of that nation.

Unfortunately, Mike Winger, who I really like, has made no attempt to preach on racism or address foolishness like this. However, he has done a CRT podcast. Shameful.

Agree! Mike Winger spent endless hours denouncing Benny Hinn, and not 5 minutes denouncing despicable pastors like Joel Webbon and Doug Wilson. Then again, he also said we should ignore Trump's vile character because his policies are more Christian. I guess a diseased tree can bear good fruit according to Mike.

Mike Winger interviewed Joel Webbon at Webbon’s invitation and stated off the batt he disagrees with him! th-cam.com/video/Jbbfx4YAj2A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=48lyqr2LnRa9DlpW But it’s mostly on theonomy. Not sure Winger addresses Webbon’s racism, haven’t watched it yet.

I'm sure Mike doesn't know, not every pastor or teacher has to address every false teacher. It might be a good thing to send this to Mike. He's not one to shy away from something.
