    Herr Lehrer,
Danke für deine Videos. Sie gefällt mir sehr viel!
An 1:20, du sagtest, "Da ich etwas mehr schreiben wollte und meine Handschrift schrecklich aussieht, habe ich getippt und auf die Karten geklebt.
I was surprised that after "ich" there wasn't a verb! I was expecting it to be,
Da ich "wollte" etwas mehr schreiben und meine Handschrift "sieht" schrecklich aus...or
    a pattern more like that...lol.
So, could you explain this sentence struture? I think it's because of the subordinate clause at the end..AND "wollte and aussieht" reflects that to match the subordinate clause which starts with "habe".
But as a student trying to learn the language, UNTIL a TEACHER TELLS ME the correct answer *I will never be sure and I stutter back and forth.* I think it's the length of the sentence joined by *"und"* that throws me. A lot of German at one time and not the simple, "Go to the table." "Bring the glass to the table."
Also, an 1:57 sagst du, Leider konnte ich keine Karten von der Stadt, in der ich wohne, finden, "da" Edwardsville weder groß noch wichtig genug ist, um Postkarten zu haben.
Would I be wrong to say at that point, *"denn"* Edwardsville weder groß noch wichtig genug ist, um Postkarten zu haben? I don't know why but that seems to be *"my"* natural speech pattern/personality trait at that point. So would that be wrong or change the sentence meaning to any great degree? When my words don't match yours *(a teacher, a native German speaker or a text book)* then I think I'm completely wrong and CAN'T say it that way without completely ruining the sentence. Therefore, stuck in a loop and unable to progress!
However, talking with friends they believe that everyone has their "own" speech
patterns/personality traits. And words you choose might not match the text book, but if it doesn't violate the rules of grammar or change the overall meaning of the sentence then it's just because of personality traits that sentences don't match 100% with text books. Could you give me your impressions of this?
An 3:02 du benutst das Wort, "draufkleben". Ich konnte das Wort nicht finden. So, brache ich das Wort in zwei Teile ...drauf = darauf (da(r) auf = there on, or drauf-idomatic speech pattern). And kleben=stick, glue, cling, adhere...so that I was able to do that in my head first before attempting to look it up. But it startles me when I hear a "new" word, which causes me to loose track of all succeeding words. Then I'm lost after that...smile!
Thanks again for your videos! They are always entertaining and I usually get most of what
you say in German if I know the words already. I am going through your A1/A2 videos in sequential order to identify my trouble point. lol!!!

"Da" is a subordinating conjunction. This forces the verbs to the middle around the comma, when the conjunction is in the first clause. The subject "ich" stays in the same position as usual, but the verb moves.
In the sentence with "da Edwardsville weder groß..." the verb is at the end, because of the conjunction "da" again. If you use "denn" the word order goes back to normal. "... denn Edwardsville ist weder groß noch wichtig genug, um Postkarten zu haben."
"draufkleben" is a slightly shortened version of "daraufkleben", which is used as a separable prefix verb. Normally the "darauf" would be at the end of the sentence and the verb would be conjugated in its normal spot, but this is the infinitive form, because of the modal auxiliary "müssen". Technically speaking, this verb isn't a "real" verb in that you won't find it in a dictionary, but German is flexible, because you can add words together to create new ones. Normally this happens with nouns, but you can also do it with adjectives and verbs.
I hope this clears some things up. If you are looking for a series that is meant to be sequential, check out the 3 Minuten Deutsch series, which is all about little grammar lessons. I have since stopped making these videos, but there should be plenty to keep you busy there.

Ich sehe, dass Sie den Satz nach dem Komma mit einem großen Buchstaben beginnen. Ich dachte, wenn Sie ein Komma nach der Anrede setzen, muss der nächste Satz mit einem kleinen Buchstaben beginnen. Liege ich falsche?

is this really a1 a2 content??

    • @MrLAntrim
      @MrLAntrim  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes. It is A2. The topic of writing a postcard is A2, but the explanation of how to do it is a bit higher. The content of the actual card is A2, as well.
