The performance is fine - if perhaps bordering a bit on the slow and ponderous. It is the acoustic and recording quality that are terrible. I would guess that's what the dislikes are for. But you never know :)
i guess im asking randomly but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
It Is Not Benjamin Britten, sorry folks...it was sung in Ireland before the 1900's ( Benjamin was not yet born-he did an arrangement, but ? ) The original Irish music ( arrang'mt ) is better Check it out for yourselves.
This is an arrangement by the famous British composer of a traditional melody that is commonly used with this poem by Yeats, which the poet in turn based on a traditional song, You rambling boys of pleasure. The melody is basically that of Mourlough Shore, the same melody used by many singers like Orla Fallon or Laura Wright. I personally prefer folk-song singing styles rather than classical art song arrangements, which usually seem a bit stiff and unidiomatic to me at least. I do not suppose that singers in Yeats' time necessarily would sound like folksingers today. Old field recordings often seem a bit old-fashioned to modern ears. But still in general this is a nice recording in a certain art song style.
yes, we know, steady on! Maura O'Connel's version however, is pure perfection and true to the song/poem. Her graceful voice gives it the emotion it deserves. Please give it a whirl. It's very moving.
What are the 'Sarly Gardens?' Awful! Yes, a beautiful voice but the meaning of the song is SO lost in the technical attributes of this singer. It's too showy offy. It is an Irish folk song written by an Irish poet. I'm sure Benjamin Britten meant it to be 'true' to lyric. It is not nice to listen to.
Such a smooth voice; so pleasant. And the presentation was not over done, nor under done.
Finally someone in the key I'm singing it in
Μine too!
Beautiful !
Thank you so much for this! I've been practicing to it all day and I'm going to use it for the next three months!
Why all the dislikes? Her voice is beautiful.
erica huang Why do people not like the performance?

Tout ce que Benjamin Britten touche devient de l’or!!! 👍
Try WB Yeats. Britten just covered Yeats song on one of his recordings.
