Thank you for I enjoyed your rudition of Claudia Procula in which I have two novels about her ( The Centurion's Wife by David Bunn and Janette Oke: and Claudia, Wife of Pontius Pilate by Diana Wallis Taylor) It proved that Claudia, not only heard of Jesus of Nazareth, his miracles especially raising Lazarus from the dead and the triumph entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, as well as the unrest of the holy city of God, both knew that the Jews hated Romans, and they knew about the Jewish GOD, Jehovah. Word of mouth is a powerful thing in Claudia Procula case, probably by her servants and probably by reports about Jesus of Nazareth because Jesus' fame was aboard. I can only imagine that GOD revealed that truth in a dream to her because she was receptive to the supernatural as a warning to her husband, Pilate whom she loved, but Pilate was known for his relentless, thirst for blood, cruelty and brutality as a Roman official to uphold Roman laws, but Pilate encountered the Master and read his wife Claudia's message about not to be a party of the controversy of putting a Righteous Man to death, and Pilate tried to hearken to his wife but he failed miserably and have no other choice to crucified our LORD Jesus Christ. Unknown to him and his wife, scripture's about our LORD Jesus Christ had to be fulfilled, according to Isiah 53 and others. We know that Pilate returned to Rome in disgrace and committed suicide, but Claudia Procula case, she became a believer of the Messiah, Jesus Christ according to tradition. Thank you once again for expounding the life of Claudia Procula!!!
You sound like an avid reader, and got started on researching Claudia's story a long while ago. I was amazed at how much has been written about her, and how God was at work in her life, behind the scenes, for her good and perhaps for Pilate's as well. Thank You, God, for how You work in our lives, amen.
Please forgive this late replay. I did a little sleuth-work for you, and according to the Encyclopedia Britannica, Julius Caesar was Augustus's great-uncle-that is, Augustus's mother's mother's brother. Caesar played a big role in Augustus's early life. He introduced Augustus to Roman political life and took him on military campaigns and victory tours too. So there -is- a family connection between Pilate’s wife and Julius Caesar, but it’s not a direct line.
Augustus was the nephew, adopted son and designated heir of Julius. He had many of his uncle's qualities. By the time of the Crucifixion, the Roman Emperor with the title of Caesar, was Tiberius, a stepson of Augustus, reigned A.D. 14-37.
I AGREE !! THAT WOMAN have POWER too , I also wonder and want to know who is SHE that HER husban listen to her. if we look back to herod's wife she did not ask for JOHN the babtize head.
Here's the short answer: ancient documents state that Pilate's wife was the illegitimate granddaughter of Augustus Caesar. Here's the long answer to your question: In my research, I found sources claiming the story of Claudia’s beginnings trace back to a second century narrative that spoke of her as the illegitimate daughter of Julia, Augustus Caesar’s only natural child. According to this chronicle, Julia proved to be a wild child, plowing through two marriages with highly publicized and flagrant extramarital affairs. When her second husband died, Julia evidently married Tiberius before he became the next emperor. However, she had not mended her ways, and created such a scandal that even her all-powerful father, the emperor Augustus, had no more recourse but to banish her to Gaul and allow Tiberius to divorce her. Once there, against the beautiful backdrop of the Alps, Julia gave birth to Claudia, then died shortly afterward. God had a crucial part to play for this little girl in the great drama and passion of Christ’s death, and would see to i t she would one day be where she needed to be. Eventually, as this story goes, Tiberius brought this daughter back, and married her as a young girl to Pilate. Not long afterwards, Sejanus came to power, and Tiberius retreated for a time, leaving Sejanus to run the affairs of Rome. Reportedly friends with Pilate, it was then, in 26 AD, that Pilate, of the Equestrian Rank in the military, was given his appointment as procurator to regions in Palestine, and took his bride with him.

The short answer is most likely no. Tracing the family tree of Pilate’s wife presents certain challenges because her identity is not established in the Bible, nor in an document from her lifetime. Origen of Alexandria (c. 185 - c. 253) suggested she had become a baptized Christian. According to the British Museum, another (?) second century document (I can’t at the moment find the source of this document) identifies Pilate’s wife as “Claudia Procula,” the illegitimate daughter of Julia Caesaris, daughter of the Emperor Augustus and wife of the emperor Tiberius (her third marriage, his second). This is the official history the Orthodox Churches stand by. From there we can only trace the relationship between Tiberius and Augustus, because there is no mention in antiquity of who sired "Claudia Procula." Tiberius was the adopted son of Augustus, so there seems to be no genetic tie between them. According to The Encyclopedia Britannica www.britannica.com/biography/Tiberius explains their relationship. “Tiberius’s father, also named Tiberius Claudius Nero, a high priest and magistrate, was a former fleet captain for Julius Caesar. His mother, the beautiful Livia Drusilla, was her husband’s cousin and may have been only 13 years old when Tiberius was born. “In the civil wars following the assassination of Julius Caesar, the elder Tiberius gave his allegiance to Mark Antony, Caesar’s protégé. When Augustus, Caesar’s grandnephew and heir, fell out with Antony and defeated him in the ensuing power struggle, the elder Tiberius and his family became fugitives. They fled first to Sicily and then to Greece, but by the time Tiberius was three years old an amnesty was granted and the family was able to return to Rome. “In 39 BCE Augustus had the power, if not yet the title, of emperor. Attracted by the beauty of Livia, who was at that time pregnant with a second son, Augustus divorced his own wife, who was also pregnant, and, forcing the elder Tiberius to give up Livia, married her.” Augustus’s beloved daughter Julia grew up with her two step-brothers, Livia’s sons Drusus, and Tiberius who eventually became heir apparent to the emperor’s crown. When Tiberius was thirty, Augustus’s daughter Julia found herself widowed for the second time, so Augustus forced Tiberius to divorce the wife he loved and marry his step-sister Julia. It was a disastrous union, and her adulteries were infamous. They separated for years until she was finally banished by her heart-broken father (the emperor Augustus) and died in exile when Tiberius gained the crown. Though it is accepted as historical (for many) that Julia had a daughter in exile, that this daughter is the person we know as Claudia Procula, the wife of Pilate, there is no extant source (that I know of) that can name the father. So the only way Claudia could be a cousin of some kind to Tiberius (and not simply the illegitimate daughter borne of adultery to his exiled wife) is if it could be proven her father was a blood relative of Tiberius. It’s a long answer, I know!

Thank you for weighing in. I've given citations for all the material I've presented, besides the Matthew 27:19 passage and the intriguing morsel in 2 Timothy 4:21. All the sources I've read come from church tradition, including the Orthodox church tradition. As you probably know, the Protestant canon is the leanest of all the Christian faith traditions, with 66 books, including 27 books in the Christian (New) Testament and 39 in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). The Catholic Bible is composed of 73 books: an Old Testament of 46 books (including 7 deuterocanonical books and additional deuterocanonical content in 2 books) and a New Testament of 27 books. The Orthodox church considers 81 books canon, several of which are unfamiliar to Protestants, with 46 books in the OT and 32 in the NT. The Orthodox traditions surrounding the story of Pilate and his wife are rich in detail. As I explain at the beginning of the video, "some arms of the church-the Eastern Orthodox, Coptic, Oriental Orthodox and Ethiopian Orthodox-venerate Pilate’s wife as a saint, and some even venerate Pilate as well. Though the Bible does not give us much information about Pilate’s wife, she does appear in a number of ancient accounts that arose in the first few centuries of Christianity." I have a great respect for the ancient authors who--under horrific duress and danger to their lives and the lives of their churches--wrote down all they knew and had been passed on to them concerning the Lord and the first centuries of the church's formation. I understand your skepticism, especially with such little scriptural information. I am keeping an open mind, considering all these ancient sources as worth merit.
Claudia Procula, the daughter of Julia? That sounds very sketchy to me. The historical record says that Julia gave birth to five children: Gaius , Lucius , Agrippina the Elder , Julia the Younger , and Posthumous. The five children of Marcus Agrippa Julia's second husband. Julia was twice a widow.
@JeffDbury thank you for your added information about Julia's life. It sounds like you've researched her a bit. I'm away from my desk, but when I return I can list my resources--some of which I listed in the credits of this video.
@@GraceandPeaceJoanne Another thing Julia was not taken toGaul either ,when she was banished ,she was first taken to Pandataria , an island off of Campania, and then she was moved to Rhegium, a town in Calabria, where under the orders of Tiberius , she died of starvation.
Yes, according to Eusebius, a fourth century Christian historian, Pilate killed himself on Caligula's order. If that truly happened, it is a tragic end. I would personally consider it to have been a Roman execution, a particularly cruel one, so in keeping with Caligula's notoriety for twisted brutality. And it wouldn't have negated the possibility of Pilate coming to faith in Christ at some later point before he died. But that is left to conjecture and church tradition.

Tracing the family tree of Pilate’s wife presents certain challenges because her identity is not established in the Bible, nor in an document from her lifetime.
Origen of Alexandria (c. 185 - c. 253) suggested she had become a baptized Christian.
There is historical evidence that Pilate commited suicide.
Not good for desf people to understand this message 😢
I'm so sorry! I am not deaf, but I do find it hard, sometimes, to understand voices, so I turn on the subtitles. I haven't given TH-cam the scripts (it's pretty hard, actually, to do it) but the AI usually does pretty well with the automatic subtitles. Have you tried that?
Okay, I went back to see what I could do, and I learned how to do something new, for which I am very grateful! so, I -think- I have it to levels that can keep the feeling of the music but also not override the narration. here it is: th-cam.com/video/63tiMlUu_tw/w-d-xo.html
