To remove a view programmatically from the layout, just call yourView.setVisibility(View.GONE) (in your case the EditText)
Or, call yourView.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE) if you want to hide it. To make a view visible again call yourView.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
