Paid $40 for mine. Had to re tube it but still well worth it. At first I was like hmmmm, ok, 65 watts, cute. then I started playing thru it and started having flashbacks of playing thru my sunn solarus ( not the sound but the unexpected loudness). Great amps to be sure and take to pedals very well. At any rate, great demo man. Awesome chops.

Finally someone that can dig in and play with conviction demoing one of these Peavey's! 😀

An Ibanez TS9DX tube screamer in "TS9" mode works very well with that amp. Combine the distortion from the TS9DX with the saturation distortion built in the amp. The TS9DX brightens up the distortion and adds some edge to it. To get an early Van Halen (1st album) sound slow the phase shifter down to barley sweeping speed and add just a little color from the phase shifter. Get just a slight but very slow sweeping effect. I own two of those amps, and I purchased them new back in 1983 and 1986. I use mine with a stereo chorus.

Since this amp is a hybrid with a solid state preamp, do you place the tube screamer in the effects loop after the preamp stage to directly engage the tubes, or in front to engage the solid state preamp? I'm currently waiting on delivery of this exact amp, and I'm curious as to where the best placement of my tube screamer should be.

I traded mine years ago and regret it. The cleans were amazing, but I never like the natural overdrive of the amp. Now I'd run a Miab through the front and I'm sure it would sound awesome.

Was the parked phase the thing giving you that sort of slap back tone? So killer

That amp has its own unique tones for sure. Is it trans prestage and tube power output.

Will this amp get amy more of a metal sound or punk sound

    • @kikster93

I think it will do more of a punk sound. You can get a good old school metal sound too I think but nothing super heavy.
