Such a different Ailey from which I inspired from... It's different now... You could see that change from the initial picture... Not the same spirit or life story in their faces... This is one of my favorite Ailey pieces.
Thanks for posting - so phenomenal. This is my favorite AAADT piece. It's performed every 2-3 years or so; and I always make it a MUST SEE during the rotation. Anna Deavere Smith performed live this year, which was extra special - love her spoken word.
Note to the camera and editor- I just wish the camera captured the whole movement. Maybe in a movie you want to see a close up of a face, but for a stage performance that choice takes away. Everything that is happening on stage at the same time is carefully presented and is a part of a presentation: dancers coming on the stage, dancers getting off the stage, diagonals and all the traveling motions of everyone, every single dancer is a part of the experience. Please- never cut out the dancers legs off to show the face, never focus on only one couple because your choice might not be my choice to observe. I have seen the best performer being cut out before. It would be great if a former dancer/performer would hold the camera.
Professional Dancers in Concert companies such as Ailey and other professional Ballet and Broadway companies make roughly $55 thousand to $100 thousand a year based on rank within the company. And many of these Dancers own their homes, own property and other assets. Most live very comfortably with a contract range from 42 to 50 week touring contracts where they tour nationally and internationally. The contracts include all benefits (Medical, Vision, dental etc). I hope that answers your question. But the key, is being a "Professional" Dancer that is trained and skilled in various Dance techniques from Ballet, to Horton, Graham, and Dunham techniques (Modern Dance), along with. Jazz, African, and Hip hop. Training is the key to being a successful dancer. Training and passion for the arts.
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love Ailey, keeps getting better, don't stop. Amen. Blessings on blessings
I have not seen this live since the 90's. I wish they performed it more often
