What’s the earliest memory you have of music in your life?
Back before social media, before Pandora & Spotify, there was just public radio. I remember songs that were on my Mom’s favorite radio stations - playing a BIG influence on what I listened and sang along to 🎶
One of my earliest memories goes back to the age of two, at the dining table. It was breakfast time and thirty-minutes later my mother found me avoiding the food and absorbing the tunes - priorities!😆
One of the many songs my Mom introduced me to - is today’s Backwoods Sassafras Sessions pick. She always loved Janis, and maybe her admiration for such a talent is what inspired wee lil Bonn E to aspire to have such a big voice too.
This year marks the 50th anniversary for Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee”, so I wanted to honor her with my rendition.

Earliest memory of music? That would be Beethoven grabbing me by the collar with his music flowing out of my father's den. I knew early on that there's something transcendental about great music.

I must admit, when I first heard this I didn't like it. I guess cause I was expecting to hear Janice Joplin. But then I decided that this young lady just made this legendary songs new hit. She's got her own style just like janice did.. think she's gonna be accepting some kind of trophy of her own before too long. I say great job little sassafras ❣️✌️

I almost didn’t want to touch this song because Janis is - well, Janis! She’s always inspired me to sing from the heart and soul and I want to say she influenced me to find my own voice.
