In my school, we would use acorns as a currency and we would mark tree stumps with the blackberries that grew as paint to make shops. People bought stuff like blackberries, amber and things found on the ground. I mainly sold things found on the ground. People stole my acorns so I started to create an underground stash.

When I was in 5th grade, half the day was in French and half was in English. One day, the French teacher gave everyone 5 tickets, and if we heard somebody speaking English, we could yell at them “Donne-moi un billet!” (Give me a ticket!) and they would have to give up a ticket. At the end, everyone could get prizes, and although everybody got a prize in the end, the person with the most tickets got to pick first, and the people with the least tickets got the bottom of the barrel stuff. They were decent prizes too, there was a basketball and a soccer ball. There was this one girl who owed everyone at least 10-20 tickets but she could never pay them back.

This has inspired me to make my own metal currency called The Orati.
The Orati would come in flat coins made of either Copper or Aluminum, with the value pertaining to their weight (Which are between least 1/2 Oz and 2 Oz in weight) and metal (Copper bring worth 10x Aluminum).
These coins would have no etchings or designs on either side as their value is purely materialistic.

Went to elementary school in Lafayette IN. The local General Foods plant was developing and testing what would become "Pop Rocks". My sister acquired a giant baggie of the stuff. She cut the supply into little baggies and was selling them like drugs. The stuff sold like hotcakes. It was unheard of at the time.

Our elementary did a lot of BoxTop collection/charity events.
BoxTops are on various boxed food items. They look like a little badge, or a single lip of the top of a box. Tited: BoxTop$ for Education
    J. Storm ALWAYS won. I never really knew why, and I was never butt-hurt about it.
    J. Storm winning every time became increasingly obvious as we entered 3-4 grade, and once again, the yearly BoxTop collection event won with J. Storm raking in an unbelievable amount comparable to ANYONE else. (Think 10-15 to any other kid's 1)
I personally assumed it was because J. Storm's family were rich and/or had a LARGE amount of mouths to feed.
As an adult, I assume she worked at a recycling center and hiked all of the BoxTops from that job to support our school, which did experience budget cuts, coining Late-Start-Wednesdays some years

In my high school, there was a black market of handheld video game consoles. Let me explain. Since cell phones did not exist yet, it was the only way to play videogames on the go. The problem is that they were pretty expensive, so not many people had them, and after a while, some people started to pay others that had a handheld console to rent them (and a charger + some games) for various ammounts of time. I still remember to this day how my friend payed one of the "vendors" 20$ to have access to a DS for a week.

When I was in junior high, the bookstore in the school sold a lot of candy. A friend of mine found out that he could undercut their prices and make profits still so he would buy a ton of boxes in bulk at Sam's club and then resell it in school. Eventually the school found out he was doing this and put a stop to it. He even had me and two other friends of ours working for him and we would get a percentage of what we sold. It wasn't much but on a good day, I could easily make almost $5. But my friend was probably making about $30 a day in profit.

Not exactly a black market but kids would do anything caramel apple lollipops. In 8th grade a teacher gave some out as a prize and sold them for school currency for a while. I was one of the rare ones who didn’t like them so I stocked up on them and invested in the caramel apple lollipop stock market. I bought 2 for 3 school dollars and waited for the teachers to run out, then sold them 1 for 2 school dollars and at one point 1 for 3 school dollars. I made lots of school dollars to enter into raffles.

My school sooner ol later banned any mainstream stuff like those Pokemon taso chips (or whatever they're called), beyblades, fingerboards etc. I made replicas for all of that stuff and made a lot of cash of that.
Most dumb one - part of school yard got covered with a layer of sand/very small pebbles. In them were some small quartz pieces, 2-4mm in diameter. I searched and collected them for my random DIY stuff. Soon some classmates joined and I offered some cookies or smth if they bring me good ones. Soon after it was a flock of kids in the yard pecking the field and trading those stones for everything every damn break for abt a year... :D Matchbox of fine ones in pocket was a common thing :D

When I was in 4th grade I sold candy for quarters. It only lasted a week or two before I discontinued it mainly because I was barely getting any sales. Then I joined a Black market that the girls hosted and I was one of the two guys. I made coupons for discounts on slime and bracelets. Then after that I started making employee cards and drawings that you could buy for money or trade with Pokémon cards. The drawings eventually went through the school as trading cards and once they got hands on a card they could print it however many times they wanted to.

Unrelated but one time in 4th grade I was a part of what was essentially a snow fort gang war where us and some other kids (Most of them the grade below) would take turns raiding each others fort, making repairs and such during recess. Once we even trid matching our boot marks to a kicked spot on one of the absolute smow boulders used to make the forts. Eventually the school got sick of it and tore them down, but for one day before they successfully tore it down the snow plow broke from how densely we made the forts.

    • @ZayZoot
      @ZayZoot 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

And before you ask, we made our fort by rolling up snow (Packing it in to make it extra dense), stacking them atop each other, and filled the gaps with snow that we packed in tightly so that the the balls of snow were secured.
The other side caught on quickly at which point the arms race truly kicked off.

On the stage in the school cafeteria (school cafeteria also served as the auditorium) those that had money could go up on stage and buy things they were selling. Mainly things like pencils and erasers but there was a few cool things as well like magic 8 ball and even a rubrics cube. Surprisingly there was no black market for these Bobcat Bucks. At my school, there was a program where u collect tickets for being good and u can redeem it for prizes, that's not important tho. There was a contest where if u redeem the most tickets by the end of year, u get no homework and A+ on everything. Everyone went crazy. People were trying everything.Someone sold their project for 10 tickets. that is also not important. It happened at detention. I had detention for cussing at the teacher. When it was over, someone went left and went to the bathroom. I also had to go, when i was done he called me and he was at the printer room, there were the tickets. He got a sheet of tickets without getting caught. He then started to make copy of the sheet and he was selling it for real money. He earned $215. The school found out and canceled the contest and the ticket program. After that no one was happy and no one was bothered to help anyone. One kid had to be sent to the nurse office bc no one helped him when he had a broken leg and he had to move while he carryed his lunch, he fell.

Gum, I didn’t sell it but my friend Jim [not his real name] sold gum, you got one free but after that it was 50 pence and he made [according to him] 60 pounds and I bought like five pieces after the free one. It was just normal gum but hit different in class, he still does it. Edit 1: he put a new flavour ima buy it 🤑, flavour is strawberry lemon btw heard it’s really nice, he almost got caught because my other friend Tim [also not his name] was chewing in class and the strict ahh teacher almost caught him because he was chewing, again still does it. Edit idk:the gum is crazy good with gum combos, which are just two flavours or more of gum and you eat them at once and they fire 🔥 so you could say that the gum market is increasing in value but the pencil market is crazy crashing so people made a trade for gum and pencils, and Jim made some gum himself and it’s really good it’s half strawberry half cherry. Candy, snacks, PASSED DOWN JEWLERY, FAMILY HEIRLOOMS, extra lunch, soda, fidgets, toys, supplies, even pranks for the person obtaining the acorns to do on a chosen person, plots of land at recess, Friggin lawyers to "plead your case" if you get sent to the principal's office as a fake witness to get you out of Trouble for ACORNS soooooo, ACORNS FOR ANYTHING There were way to many things you were able to trade to remember.
