    Mia Krampl made her first World Cup final at the 2019 Munich World cup, but was battling a knee injury. By taking a move commonly found in ice climbing she was able to work around her knee injury and break the beta and secure a spot on the podium. Mia is the other female athlete from Slovenia that will be competing at the Olympics.

    Been there in the crowd. From the moment she reached the upper left part of the boulder the atmosphere was just insane. She treated the crowd with super fun moves, figure 4, transition into a kneebar and a heroic top. Somehow she managed to make the crowd go wild. Super nice effort.

    I don't usually watch competition climbing, or any competition sport really. But for some reason I had the live stream on in the background and decided to watch Mia's climb. I got so scared when she got onto those cheeseblocks and then so psyched when she suddenly threw in that figure 4 AND THEN the kneebar! That was the first and only time I've ever yelled at televised sport.

    Not to steal from the magic of this moment in IFSC history, but I don't believe the setters in this specific case were trying to "force" any beta for the 2nd half of the boulder. Manu and Laurent have both said many times that they like leaving boulders open to interpretation so that the athletes can express themselves through their climbing. I think this was a really special circumstance where Mia got to do that due to the limitations of her injury (and maybe she would have climbed it this way uninjured as well). Either way, super controlled and calm climbing from her the whole way through and she definitely deserved to be in finals for her performance that day.

    • @OboeWhizzy
      @OboeWhizzy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In climbing, we use the term "beta" which means the strategy you take when you climb something. It's kinda like meta in gaming but for us, beta can be different for each climber based on their size or strengths

      @FinalFr3ak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you are wrong. "Beta" is the knowledge required to get to the top of a boulder. Knowing which moves you are gonna do, where to place your feet, where to place your hands etc. It's climbing jargon.

      @@FinalFr3ak ahhh weird

    • @OboeWhizzy
      @OboeWhizzy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Climbers always say to "find your own beta" which means your own solution to top a boulder route, and this is different from "meta" in gaming. Like usually in gaming there's one "meta" that's good right now and then there's "off-meta" stuff you can do that might be trolling or whatever. But in climbing, your beta can be totally different from the beta of someone who's a lot taller or shorter than you
