Great video Phil. I've got many fond memories of visiting this railway when I was a kid, I think this line was one of the main things that sparked my interest in railways.
"How are the Mighty Fallen!" As a life member I am saddened by all that has happened but hope for a brighter future, though steam seems condemned to death by the price of coal!
Very sad Alan, but a great achievement by those who have saved it and hopefully keep on getting back to how it was! Coal prices and the "environmentalists", not good for its future.
. . and I took my first ride to Petre Felin and back, twice! I joined then, and later fired the Jinty on the first steam up to Berwyn (Derek Foster driving).
@@CrossfellRailwayVideos Derek Foster was a nice person and his jinty put in some great work over the years. I went with Medwyn Roberts, Gordon Francis and his lorry to Cortaulds in Flint to pick up our first track. After that I worked with Medwyn on the Kings Cross suburban coaches and later on Foxcote. At the end of the day we would sometimes have a surprise trip up the line. We also had a working evening during the summer months, it was a great atmosphere. Happy days.
I didn't realise you were on the same train as me, behind the steamy. Why didn't you and Harry walk upfront and interrupt me? I wouldn't have minded. But hey, you found me at Carrog Station when the stinky diesel arrived. I'm somewhat glad I was persuaded to ride with you behind that ugly box on wheels, as far as Glyndyfrdwy. Usually, I'm the one who uses charm and gentle persuasion, but that's a different kettle of fish. It was good to see you and Harry. Which do you prefer, steamies or diesels?
I did look for you when we first got off at Carrog, but didn't see you anywhere. Good to see you again though. Steamies win, but I do also like the older diesels.
@@philclarke3203 I was in the cafe first, having my lunch. I used the ladies' room afterwards. Third, I was in and out of the two carriage shops, so you could have quickly found me there. Steam Rules Supreme.
I don't know why they so often feel they have to paint them in BR livery. I'd have thought the WD or NCB history would be worth remembering in its own right
That was one of the best moving off videos I have ever seen, the steam exploding in a very slow beat from the stack. Wonderful sound and vision 👍
Many thanks Robert, it was good to see and hear.👍😀

Steam and Diesel, please don't get me going on that subject. I helped bring the first piece of track back to Llan during the early 70's.

@@levelcrossing150 true, I agree. Well done for your work/ help in the 70s

Good point. Although the smaller railways like Peak, and Ribble Rail, seem to?
