The original sample I was talking about comes from Ini Kamoze “World A Music” released in 1983 recently made famous by Damian Marley on welcome to Jamrock. “Out in the streets they call it Murd3r3r” is shown here on the original recording at 55 seconds: th-cam.com/video/kLRfPBA0pWw/w-d-xo.html
Hey dude, been glued to your reactions on Ren for a few weeks, i love seeing our artists reach authentic artists from America like yourself and would love to see you delve into a few other UK artists. Try "The Streets" that's a HUGE rabbit hole and he's also kinda like Ren ( i expect them to collab at some point )... and i'd be REALLY keen as a huge fan of D&B to see what you make of our urban MC's..... I'm from Bristol over here and D&B grew it routes in my city, I've always seen it as our "hip hop" because its been going since the 90's.... but anyway lol check out an MC called Harry Shotta, Shabba and Skibba Dee. I'd love to see what you think of them. Oh and you HAVE to check out Akala - Fire In The Booth (part 4) he's another absolute word wizard and really decent at writing etc. Tonnes of content there. :) Us brits would fucking love seeing you react to our stuff, we've always loved music coming from your side of the pond. I'm here for that anyway, sure others are haha !
Yep. We all know it from world of reggae .. but there are so many reggae pieces that rip/refers to it. Is it even realy rhe original or was he also ripping it from some one else?
This was amazing 🎉🔥🔥🔥Ren is just the "GOAT" 😊🎉❤❤❤ SENDING LOVE FROM The Isle of Man 🇮🇲 UK @BlackPegasusraps you are so damn cool and funny. Great reaction!!!🎉😅❤❤
How did we all get so lucky to witness Ren achieving his dreams! These live performances of his songs are amazing to watch as he shines so bright! I feel so blessed to be a part of his musical journey! Thanks BP for your reaction ❤
Also, it wasn't just any famous rap "sample" - he was sampling Dre & Snoop Dogg's "The Next Episode" while performing in L.A. - a nod to the West Coast rappers.
That nice little jazz guitar bit has to be a callback to the Django Reinhardt line from The Hunger. He does that in his lyrics a lot but it’s fun to hear him doing it with the music too.
This had to be intentionally recorded during 'magic hour'. It's a gorgeous setting and at this point we wouldn't expect anything less from sir Ren. And yes, I believe one day Ren will be Knighted for not only his contribution to his country and music in general but for being the exemplary human being he is. One day the entire world will know Ren. I believe he is among the most important musicians alive today. I'm being 100% honest and I'd guess many others feel similarly. Cheers Ren!
Only Ren can make one of his songs sound and feel like we’re having a completely different track….. what a treat this was xxx can’t wait for your reaction matey xxx love from north wales 🏴
Perfect nod to the great barrington levy's "murderer" right at the start. Wrote him that he should check out ren's acoustic right away. He NEEDS to see it. THAT is where the hook is originally from. Also: There is a version of the song with none other than rakim. The original is from 1984 and the one with rakin is from 1993. Check it out! And the nod to Dre makes perfect sense because it was shot in LA. Now he is back in canada. There is also ini kamozes "world a music (out in the streets they call it merther)" that is a sample on welcome to jamrock in there. Fun fact: "Merther" is basically the term for listening to reggae while smoking weed. The "merging" of it.
Ren has no limit to his artistic genius 👏 🙌 ❤️ he is literally just getting started. Some rappers/musicians have their best part of their career during their drug years. I really have a feeling Ren is just finding the best parts of his brain 🧠 and that's scary good to imagine 😳
I agree with you. The just getting started part is what I hope to be true the most. I won’t ever get enough of his music so I’m really looking forward to it. Especially the album drop next month.
HOW is this even possible ??? HOW can he be sooo good ? This acoustic version, in my eyes and ears, was even better than the Video version. The setup, two guitarists, the scenery, the vibe, the rhythm, this was EPIC !
Pure perfection! His skills are just amazing. His homage to Barrington Levy's "murderer" & later in the song is also @ 12:32 Dr.Dre. that Ini Kamoze album is amazing! This is link to original murderer from 1983 which he is paying homage to th-cam.com/video/W9mvTNh-plY/w-d-xo.html
I’ve played guitar pretty much my entire life… but if I’m playing a song on guitar and I dare try and sing lyrics…the whole thing falls apart. Singing while playing is a skill that I’ve never acquired. Ren makes it look easy.
You can tell performing with his guitar and a mic is when he’s truly happiest! Rapping seems like it was something he wanted to try and see if he could do a whole album, which he obviously did. Thanks for sharing his work with the masses!
Yes!! He starts with the sample from Ini Kamoze from the song World a (Reggae) Music also used by Damien Marley in Welcome to Jamrock, but also he samples right after that Barrington Levy with the song called.. Murderer. Ren has so many influences, the good ones I should add.. such a vast musical culture (and literature, cinema, theatre...) This guy is just a gift that keeps on giving!
I pray daily for REN’s health, which is partially selfish cause I so want him to tour! I would kill to see him live! I feel like any show would be a little different and unique. He’s so special. ❤
I actually like this even more acoustic . Btw I love your channel , I came for Ren but love your content . I’m 53 from New Zealand and I’m enjoying not only Ren but more independent artists including being a new listener of your music and Knox etc
Also, this is one of the most enjoyable reactions I've seen from you in a while. Wish Don could have jumped on but we know he's out grinding. I enjoy most of your reactions & content and don't comment too often but there has been a couple of times where I've given a bit of criticism or my own conflicting thoughts on the content but I just wanted to say that I love what you all do and the good will you put out there into the world. I appreciate guys like you, Knox, Stevie Knight and a few others who know what it is you believe in and what you're about but also keep an open mind to things that you're maybe not familiar with or something that's outside of your bag. God willing, I think in the decades to come that Ren will be known the world over far more than we could imagine even now. He is one of the most important & talented musicians/people of our time. We are so very fortunate to walk among humans like all of y'all. Cheers you guys! 💛
No fancy edits, dancing girls, clothing Etc. The tribute to Dr Dree is so 🔥🔥🔥 This take is in california and dr dree is from California .... Ren allways surprise me in the good way ! Big up from Portugal ! 🇵🇹
Man Ren's live acoustic versions alway reminds me of Nirvana's unplugged performances and the way Cobain would change up the composition of the songs compared to their studio recordings and their normal concerts. It's truly amazing because a lot of artist can't do it. The way they play plugged in is the exact same way they play it unplugged.
Ronnie Van Zant was the king of replicating studio recordings in live performances! Ren is just so damn unique, he sounds so good live, and throws some unexpected shit at us tnat just makes these performances to a whole new level. Musical genius, for real!
😮 like a O👈🏻 🤣 Absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I love how Ren will never play a song the same way twice. Nice sneaky little Dre guitar part in there too. So impressed as always (vibing out here) 💃🏻 Now to go back and watch again 💕
Does anyone else feel like you've done smth great and feel proud ,whenever Ren does smth to be proud of. And it's EVERYTHING he does! I'm all butterflies in my stomach ,every time. I'm not deserving of this greatness! I lost it😂😂😂. So good. 😊 P.S. Did he give us some Vaya Con Dios vibes with that guitar solo? You passed the test brother and I love when Ren does these little sample throwbacks, especially when he did the guitar line from Still Dre. It's a nod to all those who inspired him, and done so creatively. I love it!
Ren has talent and musicality from head to toe and all the way out to the tips of his fingers. I think I love this version even more with all the little scatting bits and the added/changed melodies. Just brilliant. The GOAT in the rabbit hole kills it again.
New entry in the 2023 Webster Dictionary: Definition of a true artist (with a capital A): Someone like Ren Gill. Don't you agree?! Fantastic reactions to Ren's work - solo or with guests. Good job
Black Pegasus! Thank you for all of your hard work! You have opened my eyes to so many new artists! I have been a fan of Ren since before I followed you, although you bring an understanding to artists that are so talented that nobody knows about because of the Big Capitalistic society we live in. Keep on trucking brother from South Texas! Love and Light my Man!
Ren is a master at blending songs and effortlessly turning one song into a medley,lol...he's THE INCREDIBLE!!!😄 As for Marcin...YES!!!PLEASE check him out,he's an outstanding guitarist, but bring Andiroo to react to Marcin WITH you,he would be impressed.😄thanks for bringing awesome content!!🎶🔥✌
Two references to Ini Kamoze here. "Out on the streets they call it murrrder" is from World a Reggae, but also Hotstepper is from Here Comes the Hotstepper. Both worth checking out.
Ini Kamoze, he sang ‘here come the Hotstepper’. Of which he sang ‘murderer’ as Ren did in the studio version. Rana also reference Hotstepper in the studio version. It was a big song in the 90’s. I’d be surprised if you’ve never heard it.
Yes bro you are right. Its from Ini Kamoze. Fan fact it is originally merther and not murder. Merther is a jamaican slang for chilling in the street with homies smoking ganja and listening reggea music.
Ren is travelling the planet dropping talent everywhere. Meanwhile, King Dotta is STILL scouring his Dr. Seus book collection trying to compose a clap back diss.
You think he will go after Ren again? I think he rejected Knox’s olive branch but to go after someone who pointed a million people at you and co-signed for you? Feels like seeing a light after years in the dark and throwing rocks at the lightbulb.
I love the live versions of his tracks always subtle differences and feel. This is for me play it late at night version. The video one you could as people say "bump in your car".
I love this version, so my jam. Rock with Ren all day, every way, every day. Such great nods and his own spin. He's just f'in awesome! Great reaction, love whatchin you lovin' it too! ❤
Ren said on a twitch stream that it was a nod to Barrington Levy, which was an older Reggae artist with a song also called Murderer. I think he is tying it all those influences together.
A propos Ini Kamoze, his song "Here comes the hotstepper" from the 90s has similar vibes as Ren's song "Hold on"... also Ren mentions hotstepper in the first verse of Murderer
There is no one better then Ren !!! Ren is a amazing musician , guitarist, rapper and a great voice . Ren has a beautiful face and body too. I love Ren with a lot of respect as much as his one million do. Ren is brilliant and a genius there isn't anything he can't do!! Ren is a young man who is humble with a big heart. God Bless his as well as you Black Pegasus
Ren is so diverse in the musical capabilities and levels he goes to he can sing rap make upbeat original tracks and then perform the same song while making it sound like a totally different song musical genius thanks for putting me onto this black p I was born courageous and totally outrageous ren is so dope ❤
This was so great! So different from the original but yet the same! So many layers! You absolutely need to do the Marcin reaction! The Still Dre track is fun! Not as mind boggling as some of his classical pieces but I think you will like it! ✌🏻🫶🏻❤️🔥
Great reaction! And please do some more Marcin! Some really good guitarists you also should react to is Manuel Gardner Fernandes, Charles Robbins/his band Syncatto, Ichika Nito, Moray Pringle, NYU., Tim Henson/his band Polyphia, and so on. All of these are god-tier guitarists that I greatly recommend you react to, if you want to go down the “Great Guitarist Rabbit Hole”.
When you said he works, you nailed it. His life must be music to put out track after track and make it look effortless. I noticed he doesn't tap his feet here either. That's impressive.
Wasn’t it amazing 🤩 I loved it and love the way you support Ren ( from a fellow lyme disease 🦠 patient ) Love you Mr Pegasus and ty for introducing me to Ren and also Knox Hill. You have my fave reactions on here! Love 💚💚
I'm in awe watching you support Ren as a fellow artist and being part of his promotions. Just following Ren's journey has opened me up to some of the best TH-cam channels, this one obviously included. Good times! love, peace!
Rewatching. Getting excited for the Prof/Ren song, Pain Salesman, to drop in 21+ hours! Also, getting excited to see BP and all of my other favorite Ren Reactors more often with new Ren music starting August 15, 5 weeks away. That's the day Ren is releasing the first song from his new upcoming album! The new album is titled Slaughterhouse! The album title is at least a double entendre already... Could be a triple, depending on the type of music on the album. 💙🔥
I'm lucky enough to have lived through 7 decades of musical geniuses. To me Ren has taken it all to another level. He's raisen the talent bare way above his predecessors.
Ur so funny, awesome personality, u really push Ren's Music, lots of u reactors hve ur own great Music & u all are like free advertisement to these artists that been under the radar, its awesome, I hope he doesn't sign to any1, today all these platforms no need to sign up w the Devil *Music Industry today, Great how u push many artists get them known, awesome to see 💯 Plus ur music is Great.. this is one of the best channels by far!!!
I remember living in Harlesden north west london until I was 23 years old. Had the same thing I did every Saturday in the summer. Skin up, go for walk to the local supermarket, get a beer, drink it while shopping. Get a veg Pattie and listen to the best reggae, I never noticed racism and hate to lower classes until I went to secondary school, when me and my brother had to walk home a Ugandan guy every day, so he wouldn’t get beat. Imagine if the uk never had immigration, I can’t, I wouldn’t be here, most of my friends wouldn’t be here. REN gets his influence from world music. One love ❤️

Barrington levy's murderer is also in there fab stuff

Definitely heard what you heard!! He’s an amazing musician.

I'm so thankful I was here to see Ren and Chinchilla bring back music with talent and lyrics that actually mean something
The rhythm changes of his guitar work while hes spitting is absolutely fire 🔥

Ini Kamoze, he sang ‘here come the Hotstepper’. Of which he sang ‘murderer’ as Ren did in the studio version. Rana also reference Hotstepper in the studio version. It was a big song in the 90’s. I’d be surprised if you’ve never heard it.

Ren is so diverse in the musical capabilities and levels he goes to he can sing rap make upbeat original tracks and then perform the same song while making it sound like a totally different song musical genius thanks for putting me onto this black p I was born courageous and totally outrageous ren is so dope ❤
Have no words, he is an amazing artist and I'm in awe😍, and much love to you BP❤
This was so great! So different from the original but yet the same! So many layers! You absolutely need to do the Marcin reaction! The Still Dre track is fun! Not as mind boggling as some of his classical pieces but I think you will like it! ✌🏻🫶🏻❤️🔥
Ren's voice is so beautiful i have no words to describe ❤ i hope he will make a live acoustic album one day
Ren is that rare gem that sounds almost better live!
Greatness
This song is simply perfect I swear!
Whew 🔥
that dre riff was a great shout to LA👏
Great reaction! And please do some more Marcin! Some really good guitarists you also should react to is Manuel Gardner Fernandes, Charles Robbins/his band Syncatto, Ichika Nito, Moray Pringle, NYU., Tim Henson/his band Polyphia, and so on. All of these are god-tier guitarists that I greatly recommend you react to, if you want to go down the “Great Guitarist Rabbit Hole”.
Omagè to Dre...doing a live in LA.
Happy fiftieth Hip Hop🥳🥳
I will always love you❣️
When you said he works, you nailed it. His life must be music to put out track after track and make it look effortless.
I noticed he doesn't tap his feet here either. That's impressive.
Can Dotta even pretend to do this ? REN never ceases to impress.
Wasn’t it amazing 🤩 I loved it and love the way you support Ren ( from a fellow lyme disease 🦠 patient ) Love you Mr Pegasus and ty for introducing me to Ren and also Knox Hill. You have my fave reactions on here! Love 💚💚
Ren is amazing. Just... damn. I think everything Ren does in music and music video is done with intention. Nothing is by accident.
This acoustic version is my favorite song this week/month/year 😅. Love everything about it. Well done REN and team.
Hahaha you excitement after was infectious you had me cheering again lol
How awesome that he did the DRE riff on the 50th anniversary of hiphop! 🖤
Ren is not only insanely musically talented but also a really decent humble human being. I'm so grateful to be alive at this time in music history ❤
😂😂 both you and Ren killed this!!
One love ❤️
I laughed out loud when. I heard the Dre sample. He knows his audience.
