Roy you left a wonderful legacy when you passed away 29 years ago (12/8/90) your musical genius was years ahead of everyone else and your amazing voice will never be matched or equalled. I hope your family were proud to have had you in their lives
Never tire of hearing Roy Williamson singing this truly beautiful song. This recording should be in everyone's collection. such a talent was Roy, been gone a while now. RIP Roy.
A very soulful & moving recording. Sadly, probably one of Roy's last home recordings when he was ill (solo, not as The Corries) as his voice is more fragile & occasional tuning issues (as on the other The Long Journey South recordings too) which he never had before. Sad & beautiful.
I'm a new comer to the corries( upcoming highschooler) i found them while searching up loch lomond. I'm from Texas and my family finds me weird, but it doesn't stop me from listening to them. Roy Williamson is indeed an inspiration to me.
Im an American aswell of Scot's descent. Also a Southerner. NC. I found Scottish folk music when I became interested in rebel music. It got more serious when i began studying my heritagean geneology. Preferably the Jacobite music. Always the rebel heart. Now 3 years later im hooked. Corries, Alastair McDonald, Ewan McColl, Gaberlunzie, Silly Wizard, Tannahill Weavera, Iona, an a few more. Its led me to irish folk music aswell. The Wolftones, Dubliners, Chieftains, so many. I feel this music. Its our heritage. So thankful for yourube dn the ppl who down loaded all this.
Bless you, Linda, for making this beautiful version available. The song itself is one of Scotland's loveliest, and most wistful, but this, for me, is the definitive version.
@@sandramorey2529 sorry for the delay Sandra, don't know of any, I just put down the names of two great singers. Ray of course did work with her brother Archie.
Oh, Peggy Gordon, you are my darling Come, sit ye doon upon my knee And tell to me the very reason Why I am slighted so by thee ♡♡♡ ♡ ♡♡♡ Well I am in love, I cannot deny it My heart lies troubled in my breast It's not for me to let the world know it But a troubled heart can find no rest ♡♡♡ ♡ ♡♡♡ And I wish I was away in England Far across the briney sea Sailing oer the deepest ocean Where love and care ne’er bother me ♡♡♡ ♡ ♡♡♡ I wish I was in some lonely valley Where women-kind cannot be found Where all the small birds they change their voices And every moment a different sound
Thats wietd, in the Scottish folksong Baron O Brackley, the Barons wife is named Peggy Gordon. Atleast in the Ian Campbell version. Ive alao heard Betty used.
What a loss. The Corries were among the forerunners of the rise in Scottish nationalism as a political force. We may have lost the first independence referendum but we won´t lose the second one.

!oh, The Corries! Our fleeting youth and life.

I wish I could hear more sweet voices like Roy's--I'd love that so much! I can imagine how much he is missed. Great musicians go too soon.
He played so many instruments
Honey-sweet. A touching song, so beautifully rendered by our beloved Roy Williamson.
I so agree with you. I adore men with sweet voices
This is so beautiful. What an amazing talent Roy was.
Roy left a wonderful special with "The Long Journey South", he catches Whalesong and the creeking of rigging, it is one of my 8 for the Island.
Just Beautiful !!
Thanks Sharon , i picked it up on amazon a while back , theres a song called Laggans love on there thats worth the price alone
Thanks so much for this one Linda.
Beautiful 💙💚💙
@rojblake82 wont argue with that my good friend. both were talented singers. i was lucky to see both live in concert.
Only Luke Kelly's version is comparable both lovely.Lukes powerful,Roy's softer. Love 'em both!!
Gotta try and hear Luke's version
Lidia Ziolkowski did you get to Magical Luke’s version of this beautiful song.?.
Have a listen to Ray Fisher, another great singer from Scotland. Ray and Roy magical.
I love Ray Fisher. Did she duet with Roy? If so what song/s.

@@Teddyb1939 Thank you. Ray Fisher also worked with Martin Carthy. She sings & he plays on some wonderful ballads.
Oh, Peggy Gordon, you are my darling

Well I am in love, I cannot deny it
My heart lies troubled in my breast
It's not for me to let the world know it

Far across the briney sea
Sailing oer the deepest ocean
