Unfortunately, in Sth Korea passing your exams is one of the most important stages of life to most parents... which has basically led to the country having one of the highest suicide rates for children 10-19. The pressure is overwhelming - most students don't finish their school day when school is out, they then go to study lessons or to tutors for a few more hours... In one of the BTS' guides it explains it in detail and it's one of the main reasons that they wrote this track.

for their older MVs up until 2015 or so, you can find subtitles on the channel 1thek, its an official kpop channel and the views count towards the artists streams

I like that you discuss BTS lyrics and correlate them with your own experiences..that is BTS's purpose I believe, to have conversations on how the society works..I have always thought of BTS as a music for thinkers..and as your audience, I love listening to your opinions..jamming out bopping your head to the music and then say at the end "that was cool" if you just want to enjoy them like that is ok too, but that would be boring for me..I would just rather listen to them on Spotify if so..

A quick explanation of the word "SKY" that appears in the lyrics. This word refers to the 3 major universities in Korea (think Ivy League schools like Harvard, Stanford or Yale). You see, all over the country every high school senior takes a huge 8 hour test that will determine which university will admit them. It only happens 1 day in senior year. So the pressure is very real. Their whole schooling culminates in this one day. I cannot even imagine the pressure these students face-- as well as their families who have made sacrifices to pay for after school tutoring to prepare for this test.

just a quick edit: enjoyed your conversation re studying for your A-levels, but in Korea it's not quite the same thing. You might be interested in a YT video of a BBC show called "School Swap: Korean Style." In the show they have 3 students in Wales switch places with 3 S Korean students. It was an eye-opener for me.

This song is the reason i love BTS.. how brave they're to make a song like this.. they don't care what people gonna think about them, what they do is telling what they feel to the world..

South Korea is insanely harsh on school kids. They go to school at 8 am until 5..then most go to afterschool study/cram colleges until 10 or 11 at night. Most also have lessons on Saturday. On top of that, they're not considered well rounded without hobbies so most kids are in extracurricular clubs as well.

At the time of release sept 2013, South Korea had the highest rate of suicide in 10-19 age group. Children there go to school around 12-15 hours per day all in an effort to place well in the university entrance exam.
RM himself was in the top 1.3% nationally btw…
Second the comment about Enjoy BTS more channel … an invaluable resource for lives with doolset subs…..

BTS put out a wonderful music video of N.O which gives you a sense of where BTS was in 9/2013, stepped up video and production from their first two music videos, and availability with English lyrics. I love your engagement of BTS lyrics but feel somewhat sad that you would give non-BTS content creators views before Big Hit creations which have English available. My disappointment is particularly the case with early works which due to the nature of who BTS was at the time and the number of people who seem only to engage these seminal works via reactors who are curious enough to go that far back.
N.O is a wonderful creative effort by Big Hit and BTS but is a bit orphaned in terms of view counts by BTS standards. Lyric video creators are monetizing another's creative effort without adding a lot of value. They are great when translating tracks without music videos but somewhat superfluous when translated music videos exist. N.O to me would have been best engaged where you could see it in its entirety understanding Idol music very much integrates the visual with the auditory.

so you know, automatic closed captions or auto-generated subtitles are not translations. It's an algorithm that searches for English sounds and prints the words that it deciphers. It is designed for the hearing impaired. It doesn't 'translate' at all.

Strange since all their MVs have English subtitles. Have you tried checking the settings and switching the subtitles on? You're really missing out.
